HH65A Dolphin. (Areospatiale 366G)
Great aircraft (until congress stuck it's nose in and made us put on Avco Lycoming engines replacing the turbomeccas), for being French built.
Spent over 2000 hours in the back and many jumps out of. . . and I always got home.
Of course the orange paint job is stupid, should have stayed white. . .and sources tell me the HH65C will have. . . tada Turbomecca engines!

Although I don't model helicopters currently (I built the "Huey" in the 1970's when I was a kid), I like the ones with the twin rotors on top, such as the CH-46 and the CH-53. North Island Naval Air Station near San Diego still has a bunch of them; I love going to nearby Point Loma and watching them take off and land; they fly right past you at eye level.

UH-1 HUEY. The can do all choper. It was the most used in Viet Nam and was tasked to do a lot of things it wasn't designed to do. It did it and did it well.

Had to make a few corrections. My keabord kan't spel or tipe todae.

My favorite is the Bell 47-g. I always loved the tv show Tthe Whirlybirds, and fell in love with choppers. A close second would be the Huey.

Boy Jon,
That's a tuff one. As for the utility category ... the long cabin Hueys. Looks great and a very reliable bird. (If I were going into combat ... give me the Black Hawk. The first helicopter ever built with a spec from Uncle Sam that it be invunerable to a single 7.62 round. Ray Leoni and his design team should be proud)
For attack ... you can't beat the Cobra. Classic sleek airframe the performed extremely well considering the state of the art at the time.
For observation --- the OH-6 Loach. Ask Hugh Mills.

For me, it's a toss-up between the Cobra and the Loach (can you say "Pink Team?"). I've been collecting the kits in all scales since they came out, including original-issue Revell Cobras and Hueys, as well as subsequent reissues. Remember the old Tamiya 1:48 OH-6A? When that Squadron book (Gunslingers in Action) first came out I think I wore my first copy out. Too bad we are still stuck with that antiquated Revell 1:32 Cobra... I think it's about time that someone makes a decent one in 1:35.

Jon... I may need to add a copy of your new book to my library!

Hey guys,
You all seem to put massive firepower as a requirement.

Look at the movie TOPGUN
The most powerful weapon in the US armory (at the time F14) and the pilots required rescue from the USCG. . .

I've had the pleasure of working at many different military bases as a civilian contractor. The one helo that always got my attention was the CH-53. At one base a 53 would buzz past our hanger going full tilt everyday at 1500. The hangar would rumble and shake, I loved it. Awesome bird!!!

To Bubbamoosecat:

The kit is just fine, if a bit basic. The rotor head needs improvement, and so do the exhaust pipes (which I replaced) and the canopy did not fit particularly well. I built that one about 6 years ago. Did not want to open up the side doors and add details there, but I added a few bits in the cockpit proper.

Berny13 may be confused on the greatest fighter (ha, ha just kidding ya') but he is right on with the UH-1. Power, versatility, lethality, reliability and so much more. It redifined warfare and made it possible for what began Vietnam as a conventional Army, to fight an unconventional war. No helicopter has had such an impact on the world, just ask a Vietnam vet.

Either the UH-1 or that thing Daddy Warbucks had in Annie (sorry, just another attempt at humor).

Hey the Great White is my favorite shark too. Cool image man.

I'm going to say the Cobra. While in the Army in 80s we (us MPs) were sent to Grafenwoher ( I apologize to my German friends, I'm certain I spelled that wrong) and on an Army live fire range there isn't much to do. That is of course if you don't know what is firing where. Then it's like a trip to Disneyland. One night we found out that the Cobras were conducting a night time live fire and we boot footed it out there before they arrived. There was tower next to the firing line that put us about 20 feet above the hovering Cobras. When they opened up with anti-tank missiles and guns....well...it was a religious experience.

I would say the next in line would be the Hind. DIdn't care much for Hueys, they had a habit of making your teeth rattle loose. But I love the sound of them.

There you have it.

For favorite helicopter I'm going with the AH-64 because of the wallop it can deliver. Plus being a 4 bladed helo it is comparativly quiet/stealthy. I also like the wide variety of sights(thermal, infared) it uses.

You know...
Ask any Army Cobra pilot and they'll say the Apache is a great weapons system.... but its not an attack helicopter.
Its just not as flexible as the Cobra, especially the W and Z model Cobras nowadays. After looking at the capability of the AH-1Z,
the Army needs to seriously reconsider the Apache! Of course, the Comanche is pretty damn impressive too. Lets just hope they don't
squash it!

The cadillac of helicopters is the CH-47 Chinook. Smooth as a baby's backside and enough power to lift 25,000 pounds. Of course, this is a biased opinion since I used to maintain and fly in them.

Midnight,

I stand corrected on Airwolf not being an S-76, I goofed on that one. But it wasn't a Bell 212. The Bell 212 is the company designation for the UH-1N. I have to look it up, but I believe that Airwolf was an Augusta design.

PS, The S-76 Eagle "attack" version was pretty impressive. Sleek and loaded with guns and stuff!

Listen: with all this talk lately about a 1:35 scale CH-47 in the rumor mill, check out this site I found... it's about one of the old Aurora 1:48 Chinooks. The author obtained a pre-built example and proceeded to rebuild it to ACH-47 specs, which he extensively photo-documented!

http://members.truepath.com/modeling/

An example of this chopper can be seen in Squadron's "Gunslingers In Action." Rotor heads: if you don't already own this book, do yourself a favor!

Check out that site as well as the links indicated in the text. Enjoy! (Now I can't wait for that 1:35 scale kit to materialize!)

I'm definitely bias, the UH-1. Both the UH-1C/M's and D/H's. I was a crew chief on H models in Vietnam and crewed a Medevac for 7 years in the Reserves. Next would be the AH-1G Cobra. A real bad ****** with the 20mm on the left stub wing. The Cav Unit we shared the hanger with in Chu Lai had a couple. MRC needs to make us a decent UH-1D/H, an AH-1G, and while they are at it AH-47 "Guns A Go-Go"!

AH-1 Cobra. Of the variants, the AH-1G and AH-1S Mods were sweet aircraft. I flew in Germany from 1980-83 with OH-58As and AH-1S Mods and that was "seat of the pants" flight. AH-1F is a nice aircraft but the darn thing can a crew and thats about it.

For brute force and ignorance, AH-64D. It is sooooo ugly but the darn thing is made to rule the battlefield.

the apache is not an ugly aircraft, just like the A-10 is not an ugly aircraft! those are two of my favorite aircraft and I think they both look really cool!

my favorite helo is the blackhawk and apache. hawks are more fun to ride in but since I work on apaches I like them too.

hawks are especially fun when you are sleeping on top of a HEMTT and a hawk decides to land right next to you sandblasting your sleeping bag in the desert. those days are close again though!

Well I just gotta be different I guess, but as unglamorous as it looked I always liked the H-34 Seahorse.
It was used during the early years of the spaceprogam and Vietnam.
You can see it in the movie "The Right Stuff" in the scene where they're trying to recover Gus Grissom's Mercury capsule.
I used to live on a Navy base when I was a kid and I have vivid memories of watching them takeoff and land practically in my backyard......................What a great place that was to live!

Hey Mel and everyone!

Have you seen the Sharks markings for the MRC UH-1C? You get your choice of "Ace of Spades" or "Surfer". The instructions are wrong for "Ace of spades", showing it without miniguns and with the chunker (from the photos I've seen on the 174th website, it was the other way around!) There are a few other mistakes with the markings, most notably the absence of the "A" on the Ace of Spades on the decals. Still, the sharkmouths are nicely represented for two beautiful birds. The 174th had some impressive artwork on the sides of their Charlie models and the "Surfer" art is well represented here.

What they don't tell you is the history of both original machines. Both were lost during Operation Lam Son 719 (the 1971 invasion of Laos through I Corps). I've got copies of the loss reports for LS719 and both machines are listed there as being lost to hostile fire. At that point in time, Slicks and Cobras were being "Hooked" out after being shot down, but "Charlie" Hueys were considered expendable. An unjust fate for some incredible machines!

If anyone gets a chance to build either of these aircraft, DO IT! There's a great deal of reference material on them and they're beautiful when completed!

Ok, I'll shut up now.

Rolling in Hot!

Ch-46, no one makes 'em anymore but Marines keep 'em flying. A friend of mine was up with a bunch of rookies and he stuck nuts and bolts up in the ceiling so when they hit turbulance, they'd fall and hit the grunts in the head. Scared the hell out of them.

I have to agree with Shaggy. The CH-47 is the most versatile aircraft in the US Military Inventory. I have over 1000 hrs in RH,CH and MH-53 Sea Stallions,(I just finished a MH-53E) about 150 hours in CH-54 Skycranes and 2000 hours in Chinooks. Without a doubt, the coolest machine in the force and the Army just keep's ordering them. Great Post

Well, after the events of today, I've got new respect for the Apache. Takes enemy fire, goes down in bad weather and makes a hard landing, takes off again and makes it back to base... Impressive helicopter. Give em hell boys!

I like the OH-6 Cayuse and its subsequent variations - MD 500/530 defender. Versitile little chopper and according to Nicholas Cage's Firebirds - an apparently formidable foe for the Apache - so just how many chopper-chopper aerial engagements have there been???
Regardless - I have build a few of them, Tamiya's old OH-6, Hasegawa's MD500 TOW and the Torpedo toting version with the tall gear.

Thanks,

John

Worked as a maintainer on them for 5 years, they would go for ever if you give them a flogging. If she ain't leaking, she's empty!!

I'm a blackhawk pilot at fort hood and we used to have to slow down for the apaches, we were were usually weighing in at 19,000lbs hauling gear to National Training Center. Whats even faster is the Chinook. The apache is just more nimble, but they're not faster. A myth too many people buy into. The 'hawk straight and level will leave an apache, but they take a beating like no other.

I get real tired seeing every airframe I touched or flew in museums, now.

My favorite is the Huey, God bless 'em. I had quite a bit of time in the N model and liked it more than the other versions.

For all around ego, though, the AH-1 can't be beat. You had to fly it, not fly the computer.

Hmm.. pretty narrow field here, just American, Russian and the odd Euro thrown in. May I remind you guys of the pride of South African aviation; The Rooivalk

You must admit, its a pretty rugged looking piece of kit, which is arguably more rugged than the average Apache.. These things are more or less build like a Land Rover.. The only tools you'll need are a monkey wrench, hammer and a small selection of screwdrivers.. Here's the link to the page where I lifted these pics from: http://www.army-technology.com/projects/rooivalk/

Definitly the Huey. Lots of time crewing H models. What a view out the barn door in
the summer. Blackhawks are great but you'll freeze in the back. Attack helo favorite
would be the AH-1S.

Sorry Guys, for me it's got to be the Bell 212. Huey with a spare engine. Worked on them in my time with Bristow Helicopters, what can I say, the ultimate flying truck!

Also worked on S-76A and A+, looks nice from the outside, but changing the mag plug on the main rotor gearbox is a true bitch of a job! About 1,1/2" of clearance from the firewall (not good for wire locking!).

Not to say the hell hole on the 212 is a barrel of laughs, especially when the a/c had been flying oil field support in Nigeria for 2 years (We're talking BIG bugs preserved in jam like Aeroshell 41 hydraulic fluid)!

Got chased across an airfield in a Land Rover by a Mil-24 at Redhill once, scary moment, but that's another story!

Here Again,
Late as usual! My fav is the AH-56A(Should be E or F by now!) Cheynne.
Flight wise it could do what NO other helo can do, would carry more, faster than
Cobra or Apache !
NOTE to CobraH, The Blue Thunder was destroyed at end of filming as it was not
cost efective to restore it to stock, and it was more dramatic to see it hit and blown
up. I didn't see Amerika so not know what was used. BTW the pilot that had to fly
BT in the movie (I dont remember his name, Sorry) told me it flew like a pig!!!

Rdexpress,

I wasn't aware that the BT helo was destroyed. I know that the miniseries "Amerika" did use at least two similarly built aircraft, probably those used for the BT Television show that came out after the movie, but they could have been built later. Too bad that it flew so poorly, it certainly looked cool!

I've got a bit of original documentation on the Cheyenne and have spoken to a few guys who actually flew it. Impressive bird, but too far ahead of its time... Of course, I'm waitin for the Comanche... hopefully I'll be transitioned to Aviation from Armor by the time they're reaching combat units!

I like the Hind as well, I have 7 built in 1/72 scale: 2 German, 1 Iraqi and four Russian. I have an Mi 8 and an Mi 17. The -8 is Russian, and the -17 is German.

One of the most lethal looking choppers I think is the KA 50 Hokum or the Mi 28 Havoc. I love the camo pattern on my Havoc. In my Marine unit, I have the AH 1J, AH 1T, and AH 1W in 1/72 scale. I agree with everyone else: it is an awesome looking machine!

Hello all,
Being new to this forum let me join in with Davey5 and TeamTornado and mention the C(ivil) word.
Small: Hughes (MD) 500. D-version, Tall Skids. Like the one TC flew in the TV series Magnum
Medium: EC155. A beefed up AS365N Dauphin. Beautiful curves on that one. Ok Davey: I admit: I like the S76 as well.
Big: Both BV234 (civilian Chinook) and S64. To my knowledge Columbia Helicopters (Oregon) is one of the last companies with BV234's. And who or what can beat the S64E's from Erickson Skycrane?!

Well my screen name says it all! I get to crew UH-1Vs and UH-1Hs almost every day I
work. They are horribly reliable. Our helos were made from 1969 to 1974. I wish the army would put alittle more money into them. Our O.R . rate is higher than most blackhawk med units (so I am told by our pilots). We have a hanger full of broken hawks from another unit. The Army has extended the service life of the huey to 2008. You can't dispute it's success being the blackhawk was made to replace it in 1978. I will say that the hawk has alot more power, and alittle more user friendly. Dave

Well I might be alone in this but my all time favourite is the Mi-24A. In it's time it was the Bogeyman to end all Bogeymen to any western armour crew and I think the old glasshouse canopy actually makes it look more sinister than the D,E and F model. My love of this beasty and perhaps the scarcity of information on it have prompted me to start scratchbuilding one in 1/25th scale... it's a big mother in that scale I can tell you.

Hi all...

Just thought I'd add my vote... Despite the fact that there are some truly mean- looking and well known helos out there (AH-64, AH-1, CH/MH-53, Mi-24, Etc...), and some real sexy ones, too (S-76, A-109 and the HH-65 Dolphin)... My vote goes to the HH-60J Jayhawk. It looks great in USCG paint, and is just a damn fine aircraft. Besides, it's used to save lives, and that (IMHO) is a truly important mission... Not to knock the combat and transport helos, but something about the Jayhawk and its SAR mission appeal to me.

To Fly in order of smile thinking about them:
1 Bell 205a-1 (UH-1H) with or without a belly tank or waterbucket and that great noise - calm day no wind -35 C heard one coming for 20 minutes 40 NM -46 statute!!
2 Bell 206L-1 just a pleasant ride and good little slinging machine. Outorotates real well too!!!!!!
3 Bell 212 (UH-1N ) with the PT6- 3B engines especialy slinging over the jungle.
6 Bell 412 fast and a real stump puller.
4 As 355 Twinstar ( on fixed floats yet! just too much fun )
5 As 350 Astar ( Good heater but doesn't outorotate as well as the 206L1)
6 SK-76 A ++
7 Bell206B (Fun on floats too)
8 Bell 47G, G2 and G4A ( you always love your first !!!) agreat learning machine - got to drive one after 20 years and smiled for days.
9 Hughes 500D ( fun but cockpit too small)

You have never been lost until you've been lost at Mach 3!

Not being a helio modeler in the main I do however have a couple of favourites:-
Iroquois (sorry if the spelling is out) reason. One of them bulled myself and another operator doing forward control/relay from of the top of a mountain during a bushfire. We left our departure a bit late and it was only the choppers down draught that kept the fire away as we scrambled aboard and flew off to safety!
Bristol Sycamore......First flight in a chopper
Ericson Aircrane/Skycrane.......Elvis.Hulk ,Georgia Peach and now Isabel for all the work they did in protecting the state during the Bushfires over the past few years.
Also a BIG thankyou to the crews as well.
Elvis and Isabel arrived in Sydney last week for this season.
That is my list

fly over your house - not only can ya here them coming from 20 minutes out, but when they get over head they can certainly rattle the windows and cause the floor to vibrate.

great, i love the DWO lots of power without the added weight, DWI if i am in a high radar threat, because of the RFI, "best money the army ever spent." A+ was a good aircraft awesome power but not as much situational awareness without a TSD. D model does everything except it does not make espresso. "DAMN" I have some new pictures for you of my helmet also we have a new mod for the aircraft which includes 1 new ant. and reciever for pics please send email one more time. will tell you what the mod is when i get your e-mail.

There are so many helicopters and they all have someting that makes them attractive.
I flew (as paggenger never as a pilot Sad [:(] ) only with an AB-205 and an AB-412 of the italian army. It was fun!
As an engineer I like the KA-50 Kamov. The coaxial rotor is fascinating.
Judging by the silouettes I like the MH-60 Blackhawk, the MH-6J, the SA 341 Gazelle and the AB-109.

The very best helo in the world right now is by far the Sikorsky CH-53E. It has the most power and range of any helo in the (free) world. Plus it almost 15 to 20 knots faster than the Cobra and Apache attack helicopters. I have the honor of working on these big and nasty beasts (Uncle Sam's Misguided Children). Italeri use to make a laking kit and Revell of Germany makes one now. If anybody has plans on modeling one, be sure it's heavily weathered. I have yet to see a clean one. Semper Fi

Any model of the H-500, but especially the AH-6J Killer Egg and MH-6J Little Bird. I'm also a fan of the CH/MH-47. The H-53 is also in there. The Huey and the B-47 probably had the most impact.

I'd have to say that the Hughes 500 series & the AH-1W (USMC version) are my favorites. Speaking of the Hughes, can anyone remember the name of the movie in which a Hughes 500 police version is chasing another helicopter, and they're flying through hangars and canyons and such? I think the movie had David Jansen in it, but I'm not exactly sure. It's a mid-'70s movie. I saw it as kid on TV, and would LOVE to see it again, if only I could remember the name of it.

The movie was "Birds of Prey" with a 500c flown by David Jansen and a lama being flown by the baddies - considering the differances in top speeds of the two ac there were times David should have been able to escape no problem but that would not have been quite so dramatic - good movie !

CH53-E......I was an avionics tech on them for four years in the Marine Corps....so I'm a bit biased, but I put in quite a few hours flying on 'em. Of course there was a few stories about the pilots throwing empty beer cans out into the cabin after a few nice dips....scared the grunts witless. Oh and there was that one time we made them 'push start' us, 'cause the 'battery' was dead.....and did anyone find the keys for 23 yet??!!Sign - With Stupid [#wstupid]

After riding in -46s and 53s and watching Hueys, Cobras and Blackhawks overhead, I'd still have to say that my favorite helo is the AH-6. It just seems like a sinister bird. Maybe I've watched too many movies, but I just like the look of the Little Bird.

Hmmmmmmm, let's see. Favorite helo?
I don't recall the exact designation. But I remember one really important thing about it.
It had a spin thingy on top and one on the tail!!!! Alas, my name on Finescale.com!!!!
I love 'em all!!!!!
My second aircraft ride was in a Bell 47. I would rather fly in a chopper than anything else!! (With the exception of one time around the parking lot in an F-16)

Hey there,

I've been searching for a model kit of the AH-1G or its variants used in the Vietnam War. My father worked on them in Chu-Lai. He would love a built model or diorama. Any info is appreciated.

Thanks

AH/MH-6 Little Birds (simple, inexpensive and effective)

Black Hawks (worthy successor to the UH-1; can do just about anything)

USCG Dolphins (A friend has a 25 ft. Protector and we'll go off the Carolina coast and go say "Hi" to one. After an quick inspection pass, we all get a kick out of them buzzing the boat.)

I'm a big US Special Ops fan, so just about any helicopter in the 160th or AFSOC. However, nothing tops the Army's MH-60K or the AH-6J. Maybe someday I'll be flying one of them... Approve [^]

I like the CH-3 Sea King cuz it was the first helo I ever rode in. Got lowered to a destroyer. Two weeks later I got lifted by an armored version painted green. It was a Navy bird used to rescue pilots off of North Vietnam. Does anyone know the designation? I believe it had a mini gun mounted, too.

For me definitely 2 choices...

AH-1W - got a ride in one once when deployed on an LPH, adrenaline rush is the word! Also the sight of one of those blowing a target out of the water was simply awesome... a white dot in the Mediterrenean suddenly became nothing...

The next would be the CH-46 ... I flew medevac with the Navy and this was definitely the cadillac as far as ride... smooth and stable.. the versatility was unmatched as well... some of the 46's we flew in were circa Viet Nam... and still pounding away.

I flew a few CH-53's and they were like riding rodeo style, nothing but bucking and rocking... not to mention the scary hydraulic fluid leaks... the crew chiefs always said if you didn't see the leaks THEN it was time to worry... but all in all you had to be impressed with the size and power of em...

...........from my very limited knowledge of rotary winged air beaters there's just something special and intriguing about the Cobra and it's storied reputation.......
.....but, i'd be remiss if i didn't mention the BlackHawk / whiteHawk and it's apparent versatility & capabilities.......
i've at least 5 of the Academy -60 kits.......sooooooooooooo......

I like the H-3 Sea King. No particular reason other than it was the first one I rode in and was delivered and retrieved from a destroyer with its hoist. Way cool when you are 18 years old.

I've had the good fortune to work and fly on several different helicopter types, military and civilian. From Sikorsky H-19's, S58C's, S76A and S76C+, Kaman HH43-B, Bell 47G series, Bell 206 series, UH -1B and F model, BO-105C. They are all great machines. I sure would like to work on some of the machines you guys have talked about.
The Kaman HH-43B is my favorite since I crewed one while in Air Rescue.
The BO-105C was cool for nap of the earth flying. I got to crew S/N 41, one of only four in the US at the time. We were contracted to Boeing and did demo flights for the military in late 1972-1973 demonstrating the rotor head characteristics. This was the early stages of the UTTAS competion between Sikorsky and Boeing. Boeing was going to use a beefed up version of the BO105 rotor head on their UTTAS model.
Sikorsky ended up winning which resulted in the Blackhawk. Scat

Hmm... I guess i have a thing for Special Operations choppers. I like anything with 'MH-'. but of all the Special Ops choppers, my favorate is the AH-6J Little Bird. I like the Little Bird because they are just so agile, and is a 'go anywhere' aircraft. If i could own a helicopter, that would be the one.

In the 'regular' catogory, it's the Longbow Apache all the way!!! Especially with the OH-58D's as hunter-killer teams.

UH-1 Huey. In all variants, the slick, the hog, gunship, medivac. Because of the bravery shown in veitnam by the pilots that flew them. My uncle served 2 tours as a door gunner. Said he carried a small baseball bat next to him because during the tet the south veitnamese soldiers would drop thier guns and run for the helos and he had on more than one occasion fight to keep from being pulled out and left. I guess the stories of the arvin rifles were true,,,never shot and only dropped once...I guess my uncle Gene speaks the truth, I believe him. After he came back from Veitnam he was'nt afraid of the devil him self. When I was a paramedic in the early 80s we had to call medivacs in from Lawton Okla. to airlift tornado victems. It was a sight to see 4 hueys land in our hospital parking lot. Later after the big city hospitals started thier own medi-flights , you could alway tell if the pilot was an ex military pilot not only by the way he landed and took off but by his face,,,,,,It was kinda like that thousand yard stare, eyes recessed solid stone cut face. Not many around like that anymore.Well I guess this was too much info but ,,"there it is",, By the way Gene was shot down twice, once over the Asha.

I'd have to say I really dig the Kamov Ka-50/52. Between the unorthadox co-axial rotor setup and sinister black paint scheme, this is one bad ****** looking chopper. My other fav would be the Sikorsky MH-60L DAP, another heavily armed, and black chopper.

My favorite would have to be the CH 53 in all its various SAR configurations. MH53 Pave low III is King though.
This may or may not be the proper place for this but I also think that Blue Thunder was a really cool Police bird, even though its a movie prop.

Hmmmmm... wow ...that would be the HH-46D!!!! PHROGS FOREVER!!!!! This aircraft is what I have worked on in my military career, as I wind down to retirement soon, so does the 46 for the Navy. Pretty much has for awhile now on the west coast. I get to see the last 2 from my squadron go - first one to a pedestal towards the end of this month here at North Island and the second one goes to the USS Midway here in San Diego sometime(unless changes). Sure going to miss them Sad [:(] . Loved riding in it. But I bought the CH 46E from Academy and plan to convert it to a "Navy" "Delta" model after the ones I worked on when I can. Nothing beats a HH-46. Memories forever. What a ride it has been. Smile [:)]

I just loved riding in the back of Huey's. I thought I was probably safer in a Blackhawk, (for alot of reasons, but especially the seat suspension system) but the ride just wasn't such a thrill. Riding in Chinooks always gave me the creeps for some reason. One of my buddies (whose preferences were the same as mine) put it all down to the seat orientation-- Huey=facing outboard=fun, Blackhawk=fore or aft=okay, but no thrill, Chinook=facing inboard=I'm probably going to die in this dark horrible thing. (Sorry to all you hookers out there).
