I've had the pleasure of working at many different military bases as a civilian contractor. The one helo that always got my attention was the CH-53. At one base a 53 would buzz past our hanger going full tilt everyday at 1500. The hangar would rumble and shake, I loved it. Awesome bird!!!

Nice work, Djmodels! I'd like to see more folks post pics of their models here. I have this kit as well and want to do the Ukrainian helo pictured above. How'd that kit go together?

Here's my one...

It's the 1/72 KP kit, with re-built rotor, in the colours of the Polish relief squadron in Ethiopia. Smile [:)]

Those Russian transport choppers are some hard workhorses for sure. I used to ride some Ukrainian Hips in Kosovo. Not a pleasant ride, but they seemed like reliable machines.

I too have 'something' for the Mil 'copters. Really like the Hind (nice pic Bubbamoosecat), but I prefer the Mi-8/-17 and ever more the bigger ones such as Mi-6, Mi-10 and Mi-26... Awesome!

You all seem to put massive firepower as a requirement.

Look at the movie TOPGUN
The most powerful weapon in the US armory (at the time F14) and the pilots required rescue from the USCG. . .
Search and RESCUE is where it is at.

For me, it's a toss-up between the Cobra and the Loach (can you say "Pink Team?"). I've been collecting the kits in all scales since they came out, including original-issue Revell Cobras and Hueys, as well as subsequent reissues. Remember the old Tamiya 1:48 OH-6A? When that Squadron book (Gunslingers in Action) first came out I think I wore my first copy out. Too bad we are still stuck with that antiquated Revell 1:32 Cobra... I think it's about time that someone makes a decent one in 1:35.

Jon... I may need to add a copy of your new book to my library!

Bell Huey UH1-D Vietnam 'Slick' The B-17 of the Vietnam conflict.......They took alot and were reliable!

i think my would have to be for attack and durablity, the hind gun ship that thing is a flying tank. and because i work on them the ch-46e, that plane is a marvel of human genius

That's a tuff one. As for the utility category ... the long cabin Hueys. Looks great and a very reliable bird. (If I were going into combat ... give me the Black Hawk. The first helicopter ever built with a spec from Uncle Sam that it be invunerable to a single 7.62 round. Ray Leoni and his design team should be proud)
For attack ... you can't beat the Cobra. Classic sleek airframe the performed extremely well considering the state of the art at the time.
For observation --- the OH-6 Loach. Ask Hugh Mills.

My favorite is the Bell 47-g. I always loved the tv show Tthe Whirlybirds, and fell in love with choppers. A close second would be the Huey.

UH-1 HUEY. The can do all choper. It was the most used in Viet Nam and was tasked to do a lot of things it wasn't designed to do. It did it and did it well.

Had to make a few corrections. My keabord kan't spel or tipe todae.

Although I don't model helicopters currently (I built the "Huey" in the 1970's when I was a kid), I like the ones with the twin rotors on top, such as the CH-46 and the CH-53. North Island Naval Air Station near San Diego still has a bunch of them; I love going to nearby Point Loma and watching them take off and land; they fly right past you at eye level.

HH65A Dolphin. (Areospatiale 366G)
Great aircraft (until congress stuck it's nose in and made us put on Avco Lycoming engines replacing the turbomeccas), for being French built.
Spent over 2000 hours in the back and many jumps out of. . . and I always got home.
Of course the orange paint job is stupid, should have stayed white. . .and sources tell me the HH65C will have. . . tada Turbomecca engines!

Ok guys, since the "favorite" bug is going around, I had to ask. Now I'm not asking BEST or most successful here, just favorite and why.

Everyone on here knows mine, but for those of you who don't AH-1G. Phenomenal aircraft that was loved by literally everyone who flew it. LOTS of weapons, decent range, and once they swapped the tail rotor over to the right side, it was nearly flawless. Of course then they went ahead and "improved" it.
