Bakster
it gives just a tasting of steampunk.

In a lot of graphic arts versions, dissimilar metals can be very common against painted finishes.  Like brass or bronze rivets or hex nuts over similar washers.  Which can contrast nicely with painted finishes.

If being a pain to model.

Thanks GH.

Since the original was built before OSHA was even thought of, I wouldn't worry too much about them.  Besides, the EM guns will send them packing in short order.

Looking real nice.

Brackets and rivets added. I used U channel stock as roof supports. OSHA may not like this because you can catch your noggin on the edges. Easy to do while tossing gold bars and operating the EM guns. But hey--Nemo does not follow the world order. Nemo says, wear a helmet. Wink Yes

The light will be positioned between the two center braces. I will work on the light next.

PS: I had to order more of the rivets. I used up the smallest ones.

Did I say turret gun? I meant EM guns. Sheesh.

I was off work today and made more progress. The afternoon got hot so, down to the dungeon I went.

I made the gasket looking piece from styrene. This then will block from view the remaining ugliness. I used CA to fill the joins where it meets the roof. When viewed from below and once painted, it will look like one solid piece.

Below:

As it will look. I also cut holes and made frames for the openings. I will add some rivet detail to the rectangular frame. I will also add roof supports that I will add rivets to.

About the rectangular opening: I figured I might as well keep the opening there. This will account for a person to operate the turret gun (EM guns). It will be interesting to see how my interior lighting leaches into the turret housing and maybe backlight the guns? Maybe?

And speaking of lighting. I am leaning towards using a standard T 1 3/4 Led. The shape has the sort of elongated dome look that I am looking for. I have some ideas to dress it up some too. We will see.

End of update.

Hey Bill, I am sorry to report that my copper tape is not conductive on the sticky side. I put an Ohm meter on it and I couldn't get conductivity. Maybe if I scraped off the glue some it might work. Didn't try that.

Bill, are you scraping off the glue?

A great source of copper tape are the stained glass window sites. I've bought miles of the stuff over the years for ship bottoms.

What they have looks very much like what I purchased. I will test what I have tomorrow and report back.

Thanks Bill!

Maybe look at dollhouse lighting kits - the double copper tape might fit the bill.

I bought some online many months back. I will see how well that works.

Thank you!

The underside of the tape is usually conductive. I just tape over the end of a wire or lead on an LED.

Bill

Oh wow, that is interesting. I already have some adhesive backed copper tape. I didn't think the underside was conductive, I just assumed it wasn't. I will check that. Thanks for the tip!
I will let you guys know.

Hi; Bakster;

There is a way you can do that single light. The roof would need contacts. These I think can be made with copper tape. Then painted except where your points of contact need to be. I did it with the swinging  wheel-house light in my Thirties era R/C tug. That was wire though. No L.E.D.s then. Still same idea though.

Unless I am misunderstanding, we are both talking about the same thing. I plan to have tape on the roof and on the interior carriage, and both would be aligned so they touch. This then makes the needed connections. I will try soldering fine wires to the tape so I don't have to try routing tape all around. I just need the tape for contact points.

I have not tried this before but I dont see why it shouldn't work. I think the trick will be making sure there is a tight enough fit ensuring electrical conductivity.

Hey! " G "

That's why the instructor told my daughter when she was learning to fly the A-10 Thunderbolt( WartHog) don't hold the Trigger down more than a second or two. Or you'll lose important Airspeed! That big A@@#$ gun could stop the plane in Mid-Air if you held the trigger too long, was the scuttlebutt!

Looks like I am going with a removeable roof.

Below:

The white insert will get glued to the bottom of the roof. This then will make it press fit deal.

Below: Like thus. I used passenger car styrene on hand. It sort of looks like wood and it's fairly close to scale.

Things to do.

1. Cut out the openings.

2. Do something about the areas at its edges underneath.

3. I plan to have an LED light in the center of the roof. I need to come up with a glass sort of globe/lantern, or something. I will try using copper tape for electrical and to eliminate a tethered roof.

4. I will probably add some bracing to dress the piece and maybe add some rivits too.

Below:

The sides are curved inward. I will need to make a brace and spread the sides apart. Something other than the wood stick in the photo.

And that is that for this July 4th.
