Now, that idea for the crown is okay.

I like that idea. Question though. How deadly is the radiation from the power plant?  Should the operator keep his distance?

If you wear a lead codpiece you'll probably be okay...

All joking aside I'm picturing all this cool stuff Capt Mac and the others have suggested and my mind is blown!!!

Holy cow did this thread get away from me in a few short weeks or what???

I'll be happier than happy tomorrow AM sipping coffee, catching up, and laughing. And I see we have a new follower, Gil. How cool is that.

And Timmy is back.

And a new mascot. Bones McGee. Fibber's skinny relative, maybe?

I'll try to contribute something more worthwhile tomorrow, but from a quick scan of many pages, looking neat, Stevie. Yes

I ordered the jewelry cap noted earlier. That should look decent for the top-stack.

They came in. I splayed the piece some before taking the image. I think the scale is pretty darn close. Time to make the stack. I'd like to find a thin-walled tube of some sort. Evergreens offering is too thick. In HLs cake section they had some thin-walled plastic tubing. The diameter offering was limited but I thought that what they had might be handy because the tube was much larger than a soda straw and it was thin-walled. I might need to go back there for more distraction.

Capn--I'll be on the lookout for that plumbing truck.

Yeah, so, this caught my eye:  https://www.amazon.com/Lychee-Glowing-Strobing-Electroluminescent-Robbin/dp/B008GXRL1O )

Capn, have you worked with this stuff before? Curious how well it works. A ways back I purchased some sideviewing FO and I have to tell ya, it was disappointing. It looks very much like the stuff in the link but the FO I purchased didn't offer much in terms of light output. Wondering if this is different technology.

Like a acryic tube, say, lined with parchment to diffuse, then a blue EL tape inside.  Then, apply steampunk wood battens and iron bands around that to make a "warp nacelle."

So is it your vision that this thing can fly? Like the Star Trek shuttlecraft?  I hadn't considered that possibily. For awhile there I was thinking this carriage should travel in time, though. A flying carriage is a whole new spin on the project. Interesting.

CapnMac82
Now, for full SP asthetic, you probably need a bunch of flanged pipe fitting & Dresser couplings, which means you'd like need an AnyCubic printer . . . which unlike the EL tapes and such, is not cheap.

I think you forgot who you are talking to. I am cheap. Lol.

'What does it mean when my tag turns completly black?!?'

With the modern detectors, they don't change color.  You have to process them to find the dose.  Which per OSHA/EPA regs determine such things in µSv, which is like reporting airtemperatures in hundredths of degrees.

It's 88º here in DFW just now, NWS tells me it's 88.2º the thermocouple I pulled out for testing tells me the back patio is 87.9201º--I know which value actually tells me the most.

A banananana emits 0.1 µSv Which has given us the BED, the Banana Equivalent Dose (dang monkeys intruding again!).  A 50% exposure is about 20 million BED.

Oh that looks awesome Bakster!!! Though I feel like I should be wearing one of those radiation tags while looking at it.   'What does it mean when my tag turns completly black?!?' 'Um, that you might want to make sure your funeral plans are made up.'

Hey thanks, Gam. I had a helper. Thank goodness for a Homer.

Really cool, and no "kaboom" on the site (so far).

Hey Capn, thanks, and good to hear!

CapnMac82
My vision of that would be hoolowed out headers (or bent metal tubing) with the f/o held back from the visile end like 5-10mm, but each strand goinf to a slightly different color choice. Competing with that vision is a stack of brass tubing running out to "pods" with bluse plasma pulsing LEDs, possibly using one of the electrolumescent panels out there. (Yeah, so, this caught my eye:  https://www.amazon.com/Lychee-Glowing-Strobing-Electroluminescent-Robbin/dp/B008GXRL1O )

You know Capn, I was running towards no pipes but I have to tell ya, I think you convinced me otherwise. If I understand your idea correctly, this could be awesome.

How about this. I run dual multi set pipes into pods, the pods house the LEDs, then that light is outputted either direct or through FO. I am imagining something looking like the barrels of a gatling gun. Each barrel would have light coming through it, either via FO, or an Led sitting behind a multi output port.

I really like this idea because it's futuristic enough to not be like a modern exhaust pipe, and it flows with the whole steampunk thing. My initial issue with using pipes was that they would look too conventional. This would change the dynamic of it. Need to look into you link more and your panels idea too.

CapnMac82
Yes, I'm clearly an enabler . .

Yes you are! Lol. But it's good stuff.

I'm very torn as to whether that needs fiberoptic-filled header pipes or not.

Have to submit by June 1st, 4 pics showing all sides, 10 second video showing all sides.

Ok, I will never make that deadline. This project will probably take me another 8 to 12 months. But when I am done with it, if by chance, I can see if they are running another. Probably be a different theme but we'll see.  Thanks for mentioning it either way.

Btw, Atlantis is repoping the grader and a couple of others.  27.00 and available for pre-order.  I'd trust MM more than some other vendors.

I will tell my brother. He wants to order the Grader. And I agree about MM over some of the others. Pickins are slim right now for preorder.

I ordered the jewelry cap noted earlier. That should look decent for the top-stack. For this project, the stack is not for exhaust but for heat ventilation. I will make a hood that will position just above the power plant that then vents heat out through the roof. Hopefully, the cap comes soon because I'd like to start that next.

The roof is pretty much done in terms of filler. I have one small pinhole to take care of but I think that is about it. I also ordered some rivets that I hope to use primarily on the gun turret.

Having fun with this one.

Hey Goldhammer--that is very interesting. I took an overview look but I will have to drill down further. They don't seem to say anything about when the project needs to be done by. That would be my biggest stumbling block to entering it. It could be a fun sidebar to the project though. I have never entered a contest. I will look into it more.

This is the third annual, so it looks like they run it yearly. Didn't state a time frame for building.

Well, spent two hours trying to find a way to show this in action. Not sure if this large file will cause the thread to dog, but lets give it a whirl. If you guys have issues let me know.

Just a few words about this. I decided to custom mix a color not so close to the gold I will use later for the bullion. I used Alclad Bronze with a mix of Alclad copper. No light leaks that I see.

Yesterday I watched a Youtube update from a guy I follow. He is fun to watch and he lives in my home state of Wisconsin. This particular video is 6 years old but I laughed when he came across two TDs Boothill Express Kits in his stash, still in their wrappers. Goldmine! Indifferent

Take a look at micro mark site for the Tom Daniel's contest.  Any TD kit, in a dio or not, any mods.  Just has to be a TD kit.  1K MM certificate prize.

Look up any of the TD kits on site for rules and entry procedure.

This thing could take it all from what I've seen so far and what it looks like you have planned.

The best part was using the imagination to get it done, and it was a whole H#%^ lot of fun!
