The Bullion Express
Meet my new project.
The subject line is not a typo. In the end this shall be, The Bullion Express. More on that later and as the build progresses. Hint: it will involve some gold bullion.
I didn't own this classic Tom Daniels kit, Ebay provided it. And yes. I did have to pay too much when considering its original release price, but hey-- them's the times and them's the breaks. I call it a deal when considering the months of fun I'll get from it.
I can thank my brother for this project idea because recently he was drooling over the news of a Tom Daniels design reissue, The Groovy Grader. This got me thinking on how we built these as kids and what fun it would be to build another one.
Doing some research, I came across The Boot Hill Express. This kit has always been my favorite of Daniel's designs and I remember building it when I was a kid. To be honest though--I don't think I was too successful at it. I recently watched some YouTube builds and both builders made a point that it was not an easy build. I am scratching my head about that, but I seem to recall struggling when I was a kid. I guess I will soon find out!
This will not be an OOTB build. Go figure. I went from doing a quick build to something more elaborate. I figure a cool kit like this must have some cool mods. It has too much potential.
I plan to make many mods that will for sure make it tougher. In fact-- if anyone is looking for this to be like the original kit--look elsewhere. This will not be that. My plan is to convert this horseless carriage into a design more reminiscent of what Captain Nemo might design. In fact--the theme of this project will have Nemo as part of the backstory.
I am posting this thread in the Diorama category because that is what this shall be. Call it a vignette, diorama, whatever. My available time to build is limited so this shall surely be a work in process.
What's in the box?
It being what I believe is an original 1967 kit-- you get a nice musty/yellow instruction sheet, some scuffed glass, and assorted plastic parts, some attached and some not. I did an inventory, and it seems to be all there. The tires are in good shape, but I don't plan on using them either way. All in all -- looks good.
And there it is, the thrill of a blank canvas. No matter that it stinks of must. It's a model for cripes sake and that is what counts.
I started work on the motor. Being a Nemo design--I'll have to dress this up some.
