Man, im so jealous. Wish i had access to a 3D Printer. How much does it cost you to get that stuff made?

Im loving this build, been lurking for a while watching it slowly progress (i like picture, not words lol) Epic epic build so far. (and yes i meant to put 2 epics in because its doubly epic lol)

The 3D printed material is complete.  Some minor cleanup and they'll be perfect.

Inner Wing Ribs

Fuel Cells

I made some cardboard templates from the CAD files to test fit.  Not too bad.  A few adjustments, and it will be perfect.

I decided since the ribs worked so well, to try the fuel cells and ribs.  These will be made on the 3D printer as well.

Made a couple of test shots today of the rear spar.  There's a few voids but not a big deal.  I'm going to make some parts out of cardboard to make sure the sizes are right, make corrections in the design as needed, then make the rest.  I think I'll try to make the fuel tanks the same way.

I used Clyde's product for a mustang I built a few years ago and it works really great. Would love to do a multi engined plane. Will be very interested to see the Youtube of yours in action.

Beautiful work!  I have 2 B17Gs and a B17F in my stash.  One is a builder made up of stuff from three other parts kits.  I might try something like that, but I'm not very good at soldering any more.  My hands get too shaky.  You ought to be doing aftermarket assemblies and selling them on eBay, I know I would buy one if they were inexpensive enough.   I am dying to see what you do with the wing gear and the internals up front. :)

I spent the last couple of evenings working on the design of the wing structure.  I designed the ribs and spars in Catia V5.  They're only .02" thick.  We don't know if he can pull this off, but we're going to try.  They are going to the 3D printer and in a week or so, I should have the structure ready. sm-sm

I also received an update on the electronics.  They should be shipping on Monday.This is the diagram Clyde sent me today.  -=';

That will be the day if Tamiya ever makes one. So far Monogram is the only good kit to have. I am waiting to see how Revell of Germany kit comes out in 1/72.. What I saw it looks nice but you have to remeber this was only a test shot.

I've got a 17 that I keep meaning to dig back out and finish .... done a lot of the same work, but you're doing a fantastic job. Nice work on the interior ribbing etc ..... Shame that a lot of it will be hidden. Always a pleasure to play "catch up" on this thread!

Not much too show tonight.  I've spent the past couple of nights going through old model parts to aid in this scratch building.  I ended up organizing all of it.  What was I thinking?

Anyway, these are the beginnings of the Oil Cooler Air Ducts that you can see in the wheel wells.

Enjoy the rest of your night.

jseese

Not to get off topic of this amazing build but there was mention of lights and motorization going in this build. Is there a good source for this type of stuff? I would love to do a full dio with lights, sound, motorization but haven't found a good source? Probably with a B-25 I have in my stash. Thanks!

Jon

This is where I ordered my sound system and motors from.  He is supposed to be working onit right now and I should see the components by the end of the month.

Raptor, I know I wish tamiya would do a 17, would love to see what they would do with it.

fermis, dude...I'd love to see what YOU would do with a fort, I think you should go for it, now! I'll be waiting for the wip pics.

Pilot,....dibs on the B-17D!

Rob, damn fine work, glad to see you working on this again.

Speaking of forts, there's a B-17 GB staring in january over on the arc forums if anybody's interested. I may throw my hat in for that and I'll probaly get crazy with it too. (threadhijack over)

This build continues to amaze and delight- cheers!   I take it you'll be filling in between those end plates for the oil tanks?  They have such an interesting texture, don't they?   Keep up the great work!

Thanks guys.  Ya chuck.  I applied some bondo between the stryene last night and will start sanding tonight.  I havn't decided if I'm going to show them with the insulation, or just the aluminum shell....Indifferent

I wish I could do a presentation like you....You're the masterBow Down......I would love to Fritzi's American cousin to narrate my build....  Huh?

OMG... If you take these to any midwestern model contests, let me know! Yes I want to see this in person! Plus, you'll be walking out with best of show honors at a small to medium show... the amount of work you're putting into this is incredible!
