I'm pretty sure the floors were wood so they could be easily replaced or repaired in the field.

Here's a reference picture I have of the Radio Room

Waist Gunners Floor.  It has a covering like sandpaper for traction, but you can plainly see the wood floor under it.

Thant's my $.02 input.  Not sure if it's right, but it sounds good.  Anyone else want to explain?

Hope this helps

Started working on her again today. Scratch built two wood floors for the waist gunners compartment and the radio room. Bulkheads are taking shape and the bomb bay is moving forward. Tomorrow, I'll work on the radio room Eduards parts that will make this area pop to life.

Waist Gunners Wood Floor

Paragon Bomb Bay ready for detailing

Radio Room wood floor with door

Bulkhead Doors

Not too many to be in common with' B-29/B-24/B-25/B-26 all had nose wheels.

And yes, I do need improvement before taking on that project(maybe I'm just lazy 'bout all the work!!!)

Most of the awards were silvers (second place) as for the golds....like I say...even a blind squirrel can find a nut, now and again!!!!Not that I'm in it for awards, I like the vendors tables, many, many SWEET DEALS to be had!!!!

Hey Lancair IV thats a really slick tailwheel setup you came up with and I am suprised there arent more interested in it. I do have well its proably a bonehead question. Would the tailwheel design for the B-17 have been common to other heavy bombers like maybe the B-29 or others ?

Hey rob, I might be interested in a tail wheel set or two, what would it include? I'm also very curious to see what you will do with the main landing gear. Maybe something that would be retractable? And with a main wheel that would spin, so this way, you could use the weighted tires when wheels are down. Then spin the wheels to have the un weighted sides down when the gear was up. Just an idea.

I'm curious to see how you and matt are gonna make the o2 bottles. I used .25 solid styrene rod cut to length. I chucked each one in my cordless drill and rounded off each end with a metal file. Painted each one yellow and added very thin silver painted strips of masking tape, 2 strips per tank. A little time consuming at first, but ince I got the hang of it down I was able to turn each one pretty quickly.

On a foot note to the conversation about the TD cockpit set. Remember I asked about there only being only one control column and control yoke? I called squadron about 2 weeks ago because the hobby shop I got the set from told me to call, that's all he could do. I called and asked about that problem, spoke to someone there who said to take it back to the hobby shop. I told them I was told by the LHS to call you. The lady told me they should not have done that, they were supposed to take care of it. I tried to explain to her that the problem was not with the hobby shop, but with the kit itself, the parts are not in the set, by design (how it look's to me). She didnt understand what I was trying to tell her and said she would have a supervisor call me back....this was 2 week's ago. I' happened to be off work today and try to call again. I again explain my situation to them with similar results. I was told they were going to reffer me to the wholesaler because they should resolve it. I asked to speak to a supervisor, was put on hold and told she was at lunch and will have to call me back. The same lady called me back 30mins later, and said I was right and they will be sending me the needed parts. In the end, good customer service!

The TD set only has one of each part, seat(#5), column(#6) and yoke(#7). Two of each are needed to actually build the cockpit. If you call and explain the problem, they'll send the extra parts

here's my problem, when I'm at work goofing off, I can't see photobucket, (corp content filters block them, I don't know why) Banged Head [banghead]

I'm looking forward to seeing this. I did a little bit of soldering on my last build, which is on hold right now so i'm interested in seeing what you have done.

Funny you should mention the kit idea. Just tonight I got sick and tired of making fire bottles and O2 tanks in holders. Need quite a few for a B-17 and I have ten more waiting to build so this starts to add up. Tonight I just made masters and am in the middle of making some RTV molds - that should take care of the evil modeling elf for a few days.

I spent an entire night turning O2 tanks and fire bottles on my lathe.  I still have the large O2 tanks to due.  A few came with the True Detail kits, but not enough for the underside of the cockpit.  I wish I had the tools and know how to do RTV molds.  Someday!

Man, I getting the bug to get back on this know.

The wood floors is going to be really really thin wood that I picked up from the hobby shop.  I've got some experimenting to do, but i think it can be done.  I'm just not happy with the floor that's in there know.  I know you can't see it except through the open doors, but I know it's there and I want it right.

Thanks for keeping me enthused.  By the way, Your web site is great.

BTW, I'm reading this full thread. Really like what you're doing.
