Thanks Fermis.  I kind of knew about this, but haven't thought about it much.  Maybe I'll bring the Camel and a couple of others.  Maybe.  I'll let you know.

Thanks

No, it's aluminum, just a reflection.  Here is a better shot.

B-17 Guy,

I can always re-crop the picture to show the engine and cowling more if you need it.  I would lean more to natural aluminum for the interior area around the light lens.

Thanks to all of you, those pics are pretty helpful, I might be able to finnish off the wings of my 2 forts now. I've been debating as to which color to put in the space around the light itself under the outer lens. I'm leaning towards neutral grey now.

I like those pics of the early forts mel, thanks for those.

That pic I linked is from the restoration of the Memphis Belle.

The Swoose is right next to it.

Eric,

Great shot!  The detail on the fire wall would come in handy for any "engine changes".  Thanks for sharing!

No bother, kinda fun researching the B-17 again.  I got the pic out of one of my references.  Actually have one of the Swoose's landing light too!  It's cut off on one side.  Taken while in Australia I think.  I have a distance shot about a 2x3 old black and white taken by my Dad that appears to be the Swoose.  Dad passed back in 1989.  Too small to be able to authenicate but it's in the same area as the ones in the book.  Waiting on the "extraction" bird this morning, hot out here, may be late if there is fog on the beach.  We will be on the AB-139 this morning.  Hovers too tail heavy for my likes but hauls butt!

D6......Oh dont worry about it, I'll figure something out, I dont want to be a bother.

Mel.....where'd you get pics of a C model? The swoose is the only C/D that I know to exist, and as far I know, she's not on display at wright-pat yet.

I've got a fairly good shot of a "C" model landing light, probably the same.  I attempted to scan it but it's lost in cyberspace and now the scaner won't work.  Durn "network" stuff.  I'll be home tomorrow if it doesn't magically appear later and I'll scan it then and post it.

the landing lights?

Unfortunaly no.

I could go over to Castle and take some pix of the bird over there, exterior only.

My Credit Union is on the old base grounds next to the museum.

Rob,

Looks good!  Sorry about the "late" info.  We got to researching it when Swanny had misplaced his staggered waist on the YB-40.  Thanks to Eric and Tony for their help.

Right waist gunners position relocated again to the correct position

Cheyenne Tail Window in place

Window and turret together

Modified fuselage for Cheyenne Turret

Tail Wheel Assembly painted

We just home from my sons graduation in Chicago. Had a great time and we're really proud of him. When we arrived home, a package from Revel was in the mail box. My Cheyenne turret. Unbelieveable.......Didn't cost me a dime. What a great company.  Thanks B17 Guy.

Anyway....here's the proud parents and the graduate

New tail wheel is done less paint. It functioned for 2 retractions then it all broke. Trying to keep things to scale and still operate is almost impossible (for me). Anyway, the tail wheel does turn and rotate freely, so that's better than nothing I guess. The ammo casing bags are also installed and need detail added.

Taking a couple of days off to go to Chicago for my sons graduation from UTI.

Right hand ammo casing bag

WOW......After looking at the picture of the right fuselage where I moved the window, I still have a lot of clean up work to do.......Sign - Oops [#oops]Ashamed [*^_^*]

I have the visible B-17, and it contains the cheyenne turret and extra posed crew figures.  That and the resin should make for a great build!

Today I received access to the B-17 Erection and Maintenance Manual.  That's the good news.  Thumbs Up [tup]

The bad news is my tail wheel is not right.  Thumbs Down [tdn]

Back to the drawing board.  Do I make it operate?  I'm going to try.........Banged Head [banghead]

I also corrected the bad paint on the generator shelf this morning.

Cheers

Hans,

I completely understand what you are saying, but I don't think raised lines duplicate the overlapping panels correctly either. At least not in all areas of the airframe.IMO, the engraved lines look better, especially where the panels are butt joints. Not correct either, but better in certain areas..Also, I am leaving certain areas raised, for instance the pic showing the raised areas on the nose, and certain other areas, where it is very obvious that they belong that way(raised).I guess it is in the eye of the beholder. To me the engraved lines look better to duplicate certain lines. I have alot of refernce materials, so its not like I haven't researched, but I think a combo of both can LOOK  authentic.I will take a look at adding some raised lines where panels overlap, but where they butt together it will be scribed. Thanks, Chris F.
