Awesome video!  Love how it got the slow spin at startup and shutdown.  Only problem I see with it is this: I want one of those systems and don't have one!

Scorpiomikey

Ive spotted a flaw in your plan. Theres no pilot turning the engines on and off.Wink

Personally i think she looks fantastic my good man. I did notice the framing near the middle of the aircraft is a little warped (starboard radio room) maybe just the video.

He's there.  He's in stealth mode.....  Big Smile  When I cut the opening in the fuselage, I went a little too far rearward, so now you see the rear bulkhead of the radio room.  Bang Head

Thanks for all the support everyone.  This is a video I made of the B-17 first run on the incomplete base.

Great work Rob.  Here's your next project.  You need to get down to Dayton, Ohio to see the work being done on the Memphis Belle.  They are starting to get her put back together.  Wings are reattached and she's standing on her own.  Her re-dedication is approaching:

Hello all!

First off, Lancair IV, that's a beautiful bird. I can't wait to see it with the completed base.

As for MountnRide's  earlier comment about mistakes, whether you agree with what he wrote or not, that does not give anyone on the forum the right to bully or call another forum member names. I understand that sometimes people say things we don't agree with and we sometimes feel the need to come to someone's defense. That can be done politely and without name-calling. If you don't feel that you can respond to a post without resorting to these methods, then it's best not to respond at all.

Lancair has done an awesome build and is still going strong. Let's concentrate on that.

Best,

TK

DittoWhat vetteman said times 20!Bow DownToastCoolYes!

Have been following this build for some time and have enjoyed every moment. About the only( "mistake"?), I noticed is some staining behind the hot air vents on top of the wings. But yours are done light enough to be fairly accurate, Most of us , (myself included ) have made some pretty dark oily stains coming back from those vents. Once ,after being made aware of this , I did some researching, checking color reference pics , found that often the paint looked a bit more faded behind those vents or (as you have done) had only light staining . I love the effect of the #4 engine showing signs of an extensive oil leak or fire staining the wing , not an uncommon sight among many warbirds of the time.

As far as the bomb bay being painted? My feeling is, these warbirds were flying off the assembly lines so fast , unless one had interior pics of the actual plane being represented at a specific date, it's hard to really tell whether the bomb bay should be painted or not. That goes for all WWII warbirds. True, there were often official guidelines as  to how the interiors were finished , but with all the rapid changes both at the factories and in the field , there were also many variations.2 cents

I have one more thought . If being rivet counter accurate is what it takes to impress the judges enough to award a particular model , then the judges are missing the point of this hobbyWhistling.  Accuracy is and should be important, but sound modeling skills and representation of a subject  while enjoying oneself  is the cornerstone of our hobby. Creative gizmology goes a long way in this hobby.

  Outstanding work, Lancair. ToastToastToast

I just saw this thread for the first time today I guess I haven't posted much last couple of years. I don't know much about B17s but I have to say whatever mistakes may be present that is one COOL model. I admire your resolve I'm not sure I would spend that long on a model regardless of how cool it was!I really like it. Not many of your pictures focus in on the cutaways though.

I started on page one and I was wondering why you were paying so much attention to the interior when it was going to be closed up and when I saw what you planned I was thinking WOW.

Thanks everyone.  Started the base.

This is the power supply to the airframe, remote sensor, and external speaker jack mounted to the underside of the base.

I can't believe it.  It's been a long road with a few projects in between, but SHE'S FINALLY COMPLETE!  Big Smile   Almost 3 years in the making... I started her on March 5, 2009.  Crying  The only thing missing is the life raft.  I don't have any orange paint, so that will have to wait until tomorrow.

This is the template I'll use to embed the electrical pins in the base.

The rest of the pictures are for your viewing pleasure.  I hope you like it.

Thanks for looking.  Time to start the base.

Lancair IV, Those close up pics really show the rivet decal work and how well you got them to lay flat. Great work with the lighting too. Yes

Eighth Air Force Pilot

Did you use the SAC metal landing gear?

Yes.  I used Scale Aircraft Conversions on the mains and the tail is scratch built.
