I can't get enough Scorpions.  With this one, I've now built all of the early F-89s that are offered in after-market decal sets.  I'll have more pictures and a write-up of the finish a little later in the "Aircraft" section.

Love everyone's builds! You guys do the Monogram and Revell brands true justice. I too, learned to build models with Monogram kits; they will always have a special place in my heart and on the work bench!!! LOL!!

Great work on those aircraft. I think your skills on the Stearman rigging and the weathering on the Tomcat, SBD and Hornet are top notch.

Here is a prowler I did a while back as well

I moved the wing fences and reworked the wing fold hinges 

Here is my EA-6B Prowler. It went together ok with no major issues. These are good middle of the road kits. the look good right out of the box and can look better with all the extras you can buy for them.

Thanks John.  The VMFA 235 markings are from  Camdecals and the VF84 are from the Yankee Air Pirates sheet by Vagabond decals, both are excellent quality.

The weapons are a mix from Hasegawa and Academy. The FOD covers were scratched out from plastic sheet. 

Fantastic work on those F-4's  Makes me tempted to break mine out of the stash and work on them.  Don't remember, did you use AF decals?

My latest build is the ancient Monogram F4F Wildcat.  The kit is purportedly a -4 but I back-dated it to a -3 and built it as a "Yellow-wing" cat.  Biggest difference between the -4 and -3 is to eliminate the lower cowling flap and replace the "7" shaped pitot tube with a straight tube.

I also scavenged parts from a busted up old build of a Tamiya Wildcat to fashion the cockpit, which the original Monogram kit does not include.  And I scratched wheel well details that also are not part of the original mold.  I added metal tubing for the Browning .50 cal machine gun blast tubes. Decals from Yellow-Wings Decals.  The oil coolers you can see in the third picture also came from my old Tamiya kit.

I always loved the old Monogram boxes such as this one.

 

Nice work, there.  I did the same thing some years ago.  I had started on the Monogram kit, and just then Tamiya released their kit so I got one and stole parts just as you did.

Okay, another of mine; I don't think this one has been posted in this thread.   The search function...well, she no good.  This is another from long ago, probably a 20 year old build at least.  I see a little discoloring around the decals now.  Huh, just more weathering my friends! 

She's photographed at the new hangar of the Cameron Municipal Airport.  The pics are from last August, about this time o' the month actually.  The temp made it to a heat index of 108 that afternoon.   It was already plenty warm out there that morning!

Just kidding - you guys all did excellent work. I've been scrolling through these and am amazed at the work. I have 4 or 5 Revell kits stashed, and you're really making me want to take a crack at one of them sooner than later.

Reminds me of the saying, "It's a poor carpenter who blames his tools for bad work."

You guys definitely show that anyone who says a Revellogram kit is unbuildable just hasn't looked at them in the right way.

I built these almost exclusively as a kid, and I remember the Zero was my first time getting a good masking line on the underside to the topside (with rattle cans). The P-40B was my first one I ever built and put decals on. The P-51D was when I learned not to try to brush paint gloss yellow on the nose with one of the plastic Testors brushes. And the B-17G was when I learned you need to read the directions, after I cut the tabs off the wing joints since I didn't realize you slotted them in and then slid them home, and I couldn't figure out why they were designed to be misaligned. I basically learned to model on Monogram kits, so they'll always hold a spot in my heart. Maybe I should build one someday, with what I've learned in the meantime.
