Hello everyone.

Im new to both modeling and this website; but figured I could share my first build. Its a B-24 modeled after the Connell's Special, which was an important B-24. It was one of the first (if not the first) to not be painted, and it was one of the first two to have a nose turret added. My model may not have the nose turret, as I only have 2 weeks to complete it.

Just noticed this thread.  Lotsa great builds!  Since I am an Auto Builder mainly, Revell/Monogram is the bread and butter if you want rods or American muscle. I dont know what their military kits are like but generally speaking their Autos are quite cleanly made. Good fit and less flash than AMT.  I like some subjects that AMT does but the quality just isn't there.  Revell/Monogram is just a good place to start even if you plan to do major customizing.

I am not a car guy, so I can not comment there. But if the quality is like their aircraft, I am sure it is good enough. There are too many folks who dis these kits because of brand snobbery. And as is shown here many times over, it's all up to the builder.

True.  Their Autos are not Tamiya quality but pretty close.  Especially with their new issues that are brand new molds.  Very very good and the fit is excellent.  As you said they are good enough and work as an excellent base point.  The rest of the detail is up to you.  Just depends on how far you wish to go.

Excellent reply, Stik.  I bought an original Revell 1/32 BF-109F/G three years ago when onsale at Squadron to relive my childhood of building the JG 54 BF-109G I did back in 72.  I recently picked up the book of building RoG's new 1/32 G-6 to use as a reference for my original G-6.  I could not believe the comments in it that said the original Revell was a toy compared to the new RoG G-6 with all the new fancy stuff in it and slathering praise on it like sliced bread.  Then the builds in the book used all the new PE and resin goodies to trick it out alongside with using Hase parts.  Reading it just made me want to trick out my original G-6 to put it on par with the RoG.  I just wish I could find a cheap 109 book like the new Squadron In Action books to explain more of the difference between the F and G airframe.

Yeah, I am dressing up the old Spitfire I kit, just using strip styrene, wire, and other odds & ends. My only AM will be some PE seat belts and maybe some resin wheels if I can get a good deal on them. But seriously, the surface detail on that kit is every bit as good as if not better than anything out there today. And I built the old 109G several years back and know that it has the same quality of surface detail. I personally feel that kits like these are the perfect canvas for advanced modelers to have fun with improvising on their own. They are not overpriced and can be made up into stunning builds with creativity and skill.

If the darned wind ever stops gusting at the airport, I have several Monogram planes I want to photograph out there for the first time.  One of them is the MkIX Spitfire.  I built it years ago and replaced the tires and canopy with parts from Squadron, and then basically scratch-built the cockpit.  I don't think I've ever taken a pic of her, or my Monogram Typhoon either.  Maybe if I can get some fair pics, it will pull me back to the bench where I have three stalled builds just languishing there. Schools out for summer next Friday!

Are you talking their original Mk.IX kit that with retracing landing gear that was issued way back when? Oh I would like to see that and how you dressed it up! I have not built one fo rthose since I was a teenager or before... And I am always happy to see a Typhoon! A true Monogram Classic!

The comments about the kit's origin prompt me to ask, if I may get a little tangential here.  First, is this tooling the tooling that Revell released a couple of years ago, and, is it original to RM, post-merger, of course.  I thought that it was a new tooling developed for the ProModeler series, using some of the existing P-47 dies as a starting point.

I ask, because I love learning the history of the kits, and unfortunately, Graham only took his books up to the time of the merger, which is also just about the time that I left building models behind for college, beer and girls

Congratulations, Stikpusher, on the longevity of this thread!  Of course, that's a function of the popularity of the subject, too.

Over 3 years and going strong. 1000 posts is not too far away. And yes, it is definitely the popularity of the subject. Both with old fans and new recruits.

This might be heretical, but someone did bring up cars, and Monogram has done them quite well....

Excellent builds guys! I can`t wait to start building anything that`s NOT 1:1....almost 2 yrs after Sandy and finally see a light at the end of the tunnel...lol. Still have a lot more to do before I start getting bench time again. Keep up the nice builds....I will be lurking...lol.

Here's the Monogram Ju-87D I just finished for the Stuka GB.  Like most of you, I don't see where the hate comes from.  More than 2/3 of my stash are Revellogram kits.

That's a nice build there. Any more photos that you can share to show it off?

I'm doing the Mono 87D for the Secret Santa GB and I have been watching your build!  Awesome work and I agree with you.  Don't see why some don't like the Mono/Revell kits.  I too have a ton of them in my stash.....and I plan on getting more!  What color did you paint the exhaust?  Not sure if I will do that version or not, but I couldn't find any references (other than the instructions) for the exhaust color.
