About 98% of my builds are R/M kits. For the money you can't beat them. I rescribe most all of my builds. Describing is free :-) But with little effort the R/M kits build up really nice.
Okay, here's one most haven't seen yet. 1986's AH-1S Cobra, 1/48. Although the model is nearly 20 years old, it had never been to the airport. In this case, she's seen at Coffield Regional Airport in Rockdale, Texas last Thursday. It's mostly an out of the box build, in Israeli markings. I did add some screen/mesh behind the vents on the sides of the turbine and I made maps that are stuffed beside the seats. Paint was Model Master enamel and Humbrol enamel, sprayed with my Paasche H. Thanks for taking a look!

Second that, that's a beautiful Cobra! I like the IDF colors and markings. Well done!
The bigger the government, the smaller the citizen.
Thanks Trey and Baron! I'm glad you like that ol' bird; here's a bit more:

That is an amazing paint job!

Here's another old Monogram classic. It's another 20 year-old build (at least). The Monogram 1/48 Typhoon Mk. IB at the airport:
Hey Tex, great job on the Cobra and the Typhoon. I remember the Typhoon I had many years ago. There was a cool decal that went on the tail of the plane that read: "If fate decrees that I should fail, then fate will not have watched my tail." A cool bit of gallows humor!! Lots of good memories with that plane. I think its the first time I got the invasion stripes right.......
I loved the Cobra- such a sleek and wicked chopper. It was pretty sad when my unit got moved from Germany to Ft. Lewis, Washington. When we got to our new battalion area, the entire street was lined with Cobras that were bound for the scrap yard....such a sorry ending for a great warrior!
Good to see folks starting to respect the old Monogram kits. A little work and patience and you can do wonders with them. You can't go wrong!!

2022 New Year's Resolution: Enter 1 group build and COMPLETE a build this year!! Why Photobucket did you rob me of my one Group Build Badge??? Must be part of the strong anti-Monogram cartel!!!

Thanks Dave, I'm glad you liked those old birds! Monogram made some great kits.
Yes they have! Have always been my favorite!!!
Here's my revell F-15. Just finished
Man, that's very nice woody! That's another great Monogram kit, and yours looks super. How did you shade the panel lines? They do look good.
My newly made P-61, need some more detailed decals and washing.
Thanks Texgunner. I always use pastels on my models I've never had much luck with washes. I was really surprised with the quality of this model. The last Revell kit I built was years ago and it was awful as I recall

May the tents of the Great Defilers be filled with the fetid breath of one thousand dyspeptic camels!
The PBY-5A is simply impressive. I'm new after a layoff of many years from doing models and much has changed. There are at least two schools of thought that I can discern here on FSM. That PBY caused me to look twice to be sure that it was a model. That's the school I want to go to. It was built many years ago you say but a recap of what you did would be appreciated whenever you can. I have that model on the shelf waiting for the time when I can do it justice. That PBY is the apex of anything I've seen on this website.

Oh, Great One Stikpusher. I am building my Rev-Mono stash with the help of Ebay as I just got my Pro Mod P-39Q and the CAF P-39 in the mail today. I am trying to collect alot of the ones that have been discontinued by R-M. A month ago I got my PBY-5 and PBY-5A for much less than the $75 that they want for the kit now, and I don't think that it has been retooled. I just need to find the time to start work on the stash as it is summertime in Alaska with too many outside projects and fishing to do. I should be able to start soon with some WIP's for this mega GB thread. And thanks to all the participants for the fine work that they have done.
WIP: Monogram 1/72 B-26 (Snaptite) as 73rd BS B-26, 40-1408, torpedo bomber attempt on Ryujo
Monogram 1/72 B-26 (Snaptite) as 22nd BG B-26, 7-Mile Drome, New Guinea
Minicraft 1/72 B-24D as LB-30, AL-613, "Tough Boy", 28th Composite Group
Yes, that would be an 88mm FLAK firecracker depending on the target.
Looking good MKelley! I need to find mine and build it someday.
VERY nice, espescially the 3-color camo. I have lotsa troule wth that.
I'm finally retired. Now time I got, money I don't.
Duke, JJ thanks. I painted it twice before I was happy with it. The first time, quite a bit of the seams around the nose were showing. I went back and redid those and painted her again. I was happy with the way it came out. It is weathered but does not show in the pictures. I am going to have to invest in a better camera one of these days.
That's a sweet Prowler, Mr. Kelley; if you created any issues with the kit, they sure aren't visible!!
TAD
I am liking that prowler a lot ! does it have raised or recessed detail ?
