I doubt i would pay that much for it, but i guess like anything else, its worth what ever people are ready to pay for it.

Thanks, it has seen better days, and the dio is not very realistic, with those guys standing there as its about to start up. But i still like it.

I was bidding on ebay for one of those 1/72 F-16XL kits and dropped out when the bidding went over $40 . I don't know what it sold for in the end and I sure would have liked one but $40 + ........

Is it worth that much !

BTW , nice build Bish .

My one and only surviving RM build is almost 20 years old, and only just about in one piece. The pitot is missing and the front undercarrage has had to be fixed numerous times. But i still like it. I think this was one of the first kits i used the airbrush on and one of my first aircraft dio's.

Monogram 72nd F-16XL.

We don't see these very often and now two in one thread. What ever happened to the real thing.

Really nice, Ordie! Did you happen to see the "Dogfights" episode that depicted that particular engagement?

Glenn

No, I didn't, but I believe I'll drop by youtube and look it up.  Thanks!

professor, Reasoned, Shell - Thanks for the compliments.  Encouragement means a lot, especially from talented scale modellers like yourselves.

I should have mentioned the gun ring - it would have been nicer with a proper gun ring, but I couldn't figure out how to fabricate one ... another of those 'one of these days' things.

Wow guys ! The old Monogram / Revell kits are looking superb ! Makes me wonder why i had thought of selling those in my stash because i thought the newer kits were better . After seeing what you guys have done here i am going to reconsider . Beautiful builds guys !!!!!!!

I love it Ordie, that is the kit that got me back into the hobby!  My 6yr old son got it as a gift and I "helped" him with it, looked so bad I figured it was time to start doing it better.  Your's is one of the best of the R/M SBD's I've seen.Yes

Here's my latest Revell/Monogram build, the SBD Dauntless.  This one was built for the 1942 Group Build, and modified to represent the SBD-3 flown by Swede Vejtasa in the Battle of the Coral Sea on the second day, when he shot down three Zeros with his forward fixed .50's.  I got the prop from stikpusher, a gift for which I am thankful (the one that comes in the kit is for an SBD-4).  I sanded the spinner down from one that was left over from my SNJ build, and added the rear cockpit canopy pieces (tucked inside) from that kit as well.  I also drilled out the holes in the dive flaps.  What I didn't do is cut off the big knuckles on which the bomb-throwing mechanism and the tail hook pivot.  It wasn't that I was afraid to cut them off, I was just a unsure what to replace them with.  I also didn't open up the air scoop under the nose, which should probably also be done on this kit.  The paint is Vallejo Model Air.  I pulled the decals together from five different sources, and hand painted the red and white stripes on the rudder.  This is my fifth build (fourth plane).  One of these days, I'm going to get the wash right on one of these things ... one of these days.

Looks real good to me. I love how you get the airport background. That makes for such a natural setting.Tex, did you scratch build hinges for the gun access door? I need to do something like that for mine because it will not stay in place on my kit!

Thanks stik!  I'm lucky to live about 4 or 5 minutes from our little local airport.  I think the planes photograph best in natural light and natural settings too.  I do get a lil' bored with the same locale though.  I would have experiments with some different set-ups out there today but that wind was bad.  I had my Trooper parked as a windbreak but it didn't help enough.

Yep, I used copper wire, inserted into small, pre-drilled holes, to simulate hinges.  That door won't stay up will it?  I remember it well; and , yeah, hence the "hinges".   Thanks again!  Gary

The RF-101 in black is Baaaaad! I wish I’d have thought of that. And as stikpusher remarked , the hangars in the background are superb! I may have to incorporate something similar on one of my next shoots. Thanks for sharing the views; great work!

One of my favorite Monogram kits, the McDonnell-Douglas RF-101B Voodoo.  This is another "what if" build I guess.  I wanted to paint the Voodoo in all-black, a suedo-Blackbird finish if you will.  The decals are for some F-117s I believe...anyway, I used three shades of black and three "shades" of clear to highlight and differentiate panel lines and sundry pieces.

Up next, the Grumman F9F Panther.  Another older build, first time she's been to the airport though!

I finally got around to hauling some planes out to the airport for a photo-session.  The damned wind deviled me all the while too.  I only had one mishap when the wind took the canopy off the Panther and sent it flying (twice!).  I was lucky enough to find it (twice) and took that as a sign to come home.  I did get a few hurried pics tho'.  Let's start with the oldest, my Lockheed F-80C Shooting Star in Korean War markings, the "Salty Dog".  I took four or five of the starboard side that really showed off the NMF- and everyone of them was blurry.  Oh well, here's what I got:
