Never said it wasn't factual, just that I'd never seen it before...

 But since you say that it's from a Training Squadron (any idea which one?), it makes perfect sense.. Initially, I was thinking some kind of one-off, "transitional" paint-scheme or something... Guess I shoulda thought, yeah, the Navy's gotta have SOME kinda "yellow peril" paint for float-planes and flying boats to steer real pilots away from the Nuggets, lol...

Some cellphone shots from my son's first model. I painted the pit, did the masking, and some of the exterior painting he did all the rest with me giving instructions. I did also do all the annoying little stencil decals and let him do the main ones. Somehow we did manage to get the gear on backwards, and  a gap on the bottom of the wings. This just has me wanting to build another to eliminate that gap and naturally do the gear right.

He has a P-51B and a P-40B to tackle next solo. I think he is going with the P-51B first based on my recommendations as this is a fairly easy kit to build, while the P-40 has the issue at the wing root to deal with. I have been amazed by how excited he has been about all this, but when I stop and think about it, kids don't build models anymore so this is all totally new and exciting for him.

Not a fan of yellow wings but that one looks nice.... must be the floaters.

Revell just re-issued this beast recently.

If they put a new canopy... the canopy was HORRIBLE... in the box I would consider doing another in an Atlantic sheme.  Great kit.  Awesome looking bird.

Hey Joe.. really liking this ... I have a conversion to.. someday..someday...

 

the conversion isnt a tough one really.  just have to get over any fear of screwing up.  if you dont get over your fear you are sure to screw up.  i learned with the build though that using acrylic as a filler doesnt work very well for me.  had heard that using acrylic as in fingernail acrylic was a wonderful thing.  well it cost me several days of nonstop sanding as the stuff set up quick and was difficult to sand.

I know the feeling.. Cutting into a kit for a conversion immediately makes me wish I hadn't done it.. But that Fort's a beaut!

thanks manny, forgot to say that particular bird has an extensive attempt to scratch out some interior detail.  the access doors were open for a reason.

thanks for the kind words.  that particular fort build fought hard.  i started with tears in my eyes but i had a goal.  when i got to the point of the markings i had to go with general, time period, style, and generic unit and a/c markings.  that was more than a little disappointing.  the end result though was satisfying.
