Geof looks great!!
Where is the dropping jaw smilie when you need it??? Great job geof!
I really feel like a little fish in a big pond on this build. I'm building the Academy 1:48 Bf-109G-14. This is my first -109 ever, but I'm really enjoying the process. In all honesty, I have not done the research I normally do for this build. I simply needed a break from doing mods on the Revell B-29 that I've spent the past several months working on. So, that said, this bird is being built straight from the box. Since I don't have tons of reference photos this time around, I'm struggling to figure out which seams to fill, how much, etc... I've also been picking up a new vocabulary when it comes to RLM #'s.
I must say, this particular kit seems to have come with parts for several different -109 variants, so my first job was to cut off & replace the entire tail. Funny enough, This left a massive step in the fuselage that I had to correct using styrene scraps. I think I might be a few scale inches off in the length now, but at least he body tapers properly. For paint, I'm going with Alfred Michel's color scheme.
Primed, preshaded and ready for paint.
Progress up through tonight.
off to a good start
pzl66 off to a good start
looking good!
Ok.. Cockpit work is DONE... Fuselage CLOSED... I was getting far too far into superdetailing the cockpit, so I just said "STOP!" and closed it up.. I'm not installing the engine either, and that's because I'll take even longer to do it up right if O do, so I'm leaving in the parts-box as a possible, down-the-road addition to a Panzer or something that's eventually need an engine-block..
Ahh, crap... Just noticed that I have to build wheel-wells...
Sigh...
handiabled Geof looks great!!
Well, it only took dang near two weeks to get the pits done! Had this been two months ago, I'da had both planes done in two weeks!!! Stupid Spring
First up is the Hase kit with resin pit.
Tamiya pit with Eduard PE (pre-painted I.P.)
Was waiting and thinking it was just a matter of time and bam* here is Fermis, nice job! Like the padding on the seats!!
fermis Stupid Spring

I think the vapors or venison has gotten to you fermis.
BUT, your pit looks great.
Geof Here we go... some progress finally. Almost there, time to hit the next stage soon!
This is awesome! Great job...what exact color is that paint scheme? I was just looking through pictures of 109's and I said to myself, "self, you should build one in that paint scheme" Great looking 109.
On the Bench: , Tamiya 1/48 Corsair Birdcage, Revell B-25J, Tamiya 1/48 Spitfire Mk. I
Up next: Revell 1/48 A-6 Intruder
Great job Geof! I like the weathered desert scheme, looks hard to do and you pulled it off. Nice cockpits Fermis, what brand of resin did you go with? I'm finished with my entry. I was gonna take some pics outside but its raining today. Enjoy.
...and the comparison...
I chose to attach the main gear covers and open the canopy for the heck of it, not trying to be exact to the photo. I weathered and beat this one down, hope it shows...with this group build going a full year I'll be doing some more for sure.
Looks great, that is a cool camo. I've seen that photo before and think there was a question regarding the RLM's in it.
Nathan, that is gorgeous! What kit is that? Tremendous skills.
Satch
how to make a gif
Excellent job Nathan! You want me to wait to post up pics?
Nathan,, Awesome!
pzl66 Excellent job Nathan! You want me to wait to post up pics?
pzl thanks I'll Pm you with the pics I want in a day or so when I have time
Resasoned- Yes its a semi famous pic, I have the one color pic and another black and white pic or the other side. The RLM numbers are much debated I'm sure but after studying awhile most are easy to pic out, like the gray-viloet on the elevators and cowling, brown violet on the vertical stabilizer. most of the mottling is the brown violet and the green is the lighter shade rlm 82. what throws people off is the sky colored fuselage, the 76 on the cowl, and the oversprayed patches of gray primer or rlm 77 on the fuselage spine. What I'm not certain of is the wing colors, but the most sense seems to be rlm 81 and 82.
Satch- this is a Hasegawa G-10 boxing. I used aftermarket decals, resin pit, and scratch built some things like antennas and the battery box behind the pilot.
All these beautiful 109's makes this eye porn for us fans of the Augsburg Eagle!
Thanks guys!
Rob, it is sandgelb rlm 79 (sand yellow). I preshaded with dark grey over a white primer, then did what seemed like a 1000 coats of very thin sg. Then postshaded with brown pastels...
NathanT: sweet job uglying that bird up! You depicted it well!

fermis Well, it only took dang near two weeks to get the pits done! Had this been two months ago, I'da had both planes done in two weeks!!! Stupid Spring First up is the Hase kit with resin pit. Tamiya pit with Eduard PE (pre-painted I.P.)
As I said earlier, I got the 'pit done and the fuselage closed up...
The radio switch-panel is sheet styrene, and I drilled out the panel face for stretched-sprue knobs... Add some wiring with both fine electrical wire and solder for conduit, as well as a larger diameter piece of slder for the O2 hose.. The regulator is a 1/72 roadwheel and a piece of rubber tubing, and another piece from a Panzer something-or-other,
The panel was painted flat-white, then done over with a black Sharpie. I then used an alcohol-dampened brush to "wet-brush" the Sharpie from the relief.. The cannon breech is some square Plastruct and sheet styrene (to close that open end I forgot to do while the 'pit was still outside the fuselage.. (D'OH!)..
Throttle-quadrant is sprue and rod, as are the floor-boards... The trim-wheels are a mix, the inside one being a kit-part, the outside one is solder.. Now all I have to do is glue it in tight, then add the wings... I added wire brake-lines to the struts, and now all that remains is painting them..
Once the wings and stabs are in place, and the ailerons & elevators installed, it'll be time to paint it...
Red...
Looking good Hans!
Not knocking your build, Fermis, because your workmanship is superb, but that seat really looks under-sized, expecially the back-rest... I've been in a '109 (well, a Buchon, anyway) and the cockpit is tight across the shoulders.. My upper arms were almost in contact with the fuseage sides, maybe had a inch or two of space between them and the sidewalls... The seat-back was about the width of the braces on the back of the cockpit tub, rather than that seat-back..
And the seat-cushion is gonna make it hard for a pilot with a seat-pack parachute...
'Course in those days,a five-foot, ten-inch tall guy was about average, with many pilots being smaller than that.. (Dad was 5'8", for instance..) Which, oddly enough, was the max-height for a P-39 pilot.. And the P-51 'pit ain't much bigger, but the pedals are adjustable for leg-length... Still.. Made me often wonder how a guy like Tex Hill ever squeezed into a Mustang... He was 6'6" tall, lol..
pzl66 Looking good Hans!
Tausend Dank... Hopefully, I'll get the paint on it here in a couple hours.. Only ref I got for Von Hammer's bird is a comic book though.. (Ahem... I mean, "Graphic Novel"...)
