There is a silver ring indeed, I haven't thought of how I will paint this one but for sure will do some masking, shouldn't be that hard to do it.

I should have clarified myself.  Around the front of the cowling there is a ring of silver paint. I've noticed some people leave it off, but all the research I've done shows it should be there. I've been racking my brain over how best to mask it so I can make it even.

Is there a piece in the kit for the silver ring?  I love bare metal foil for anything metallic on an aircraft.  If not, you could always go with a piece of wire wrapped around a paint bottle for shape!  Those masks seem to have really done an amazing job, did you make them or get them AM somewhere?

Also I'm having a hard time figuring out how I'm gonna make the silver ring around the front of the cowling. I'd love to hear some ideas from my fellow modelers working on this kit

I have the same kit in the stash, I'm planning on starting soon. I'd love to have a set of those masks, where did you find them?

Then I have decided to try put the decal using maximum of Mr.Mark Softer; having in mind my great stencils waiting to be used. That's why I used lots of Mr.Mark, if something goes wrong I will use those stencils.

Now I got nervous...

Afetr a while:

So I have applied some extra liquid in panel lines:

After another a while...

Gloss coat:

It has been a long time with many little steps that allowed me to put fuselage and wings togerther. I have decided to work on the wings first and then attached them to fuselage correcting places of joining.

That dirty bird in the box art is not in the least exaggerated.  Seen PLENTY of A-1Hs  and this one is actually pretty clean.  Like just off the wash rack clean...

All the best

Just received CMK kit. the only positive is the engine back compartment with cowling part but besides that what Tamiya provide in the box altogether with Eduard etched parts is enough. I will resell the CMK kit later on.  Below you can have a look on quick review for the CMK and see compared to Tamiya kit.

let the work begin..

Yes, some light exhaust stain might look appropriate, so I will cogitate some more on it.  I plan to mount it in a plastic display case with a simulated carrier deck surface on the bottom.  I'll post a pic when it's finished.

Fair enough chuck!  I guess you could still go with the light stains you were thinking of before if you wanted to.  Either way, if you've got a finish you're happy with then that's all that matters.

Thanks for all the photos, guys.  Mine just looks so darn nice, I'm leaving it factory-fresh, no exhaust.  Sometimes, fantasy trumps reality in personal preference in modeling!
