An Me509- to fight cancer!

Yeah!  What you have posted looks really great so far!  I believe that it has to be DONE today, (the 29th) so hopefully you have been a building fool and gotten it finished.  Looking forward to seeing the rest of the process.

I would have considered entering this contest as my late wife died from *** cancer.  While I am actually doing some building these days, it isn't consistent and I realized that I probably wouldn't have finished the kit in time.  (wouldn't have mattered what kit)

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss,  Paul.   My Dad died from colon cancer- it's horrible business indeed.

I was mistaken back at the start of the build- and I thought I had mentioned it here- but I have until the end of January!   Seeing as the basic airframe is assembled, masks are on the way and pretty much the landing gear and doors, canopy, prop and fussy bits are all that's left, I have a chance. Engine done, cockpit done, fuse, wings and stabs all assembled.  Gotta fill seams- but I still have three days of vacation to move a head.  I think I'll start a post right about now and finish that up tomorrow.

I see Hanna was all dressed up for New Years!  

The 509 is looking quite good so far!  What you have done with the aftermarket items fit quite well with what might have been done on this aircraft.  Too bad it was never built, it was planned as a next step from the Me 309 which had the engine in front of the pilot.

Trey, those bezels could be better- and will be next time!  Not so hard to do if you have a punch set.  I used the Waldron Sub-Miniature set- just the thing for the tiny frickin' gauges on this weird panel!

Thanks, Paul!  I wish I had time to build a new cockpit- the kit is full of science fiction designed by somebody with, seemingly, no knowledge of aircraft or ergonomics.  ;)  A good Ultracast Me109 seat with belts has been used to good end by another modeler in his build- I swiped the engine idea from him as well.

I found out a long time ago that rainy days are no good for painting (and I was in southern California over the holidays and there were a couple of rainy days around Christmas). I've had the paint do funny things.

Thanks so much for the update, Chuk!  Your work is an inspiration, as always.  The engine work is wonderful.  I'm really enjoying the project as well as you great artwork.    I can see the ground crews fighting to look after Hauptmann Hannah's plane.  Hope you and yours had a joyous holiday season, Chuk!  I look forward to the next installment.

Alas- life has intruded and I will not make the deadline.  The good news:  we did raise a wad of cash for cancer research- and had fun doing it.  Many will participate in the raffle for some swell prizes- and your truly will do the drawing.  Stay tunde!  As for this build:   Landing gear are well on the way (heck, I'm going for broke)- a desert Kubel has been added, along with a base that will have what I hope will prove some very innovative features.  Again- stay tuned!  :D

As you said Chuck!  We had some fun, raised a chunk of cash for cancer research and some folks will get some neat swag out of the deal!

Alas for my build, it turned out I chose to build one of the worst fitting kits Forge World makes.  Read some other reviews and it was the same on all of them.  Have done well but with the poor poor poor (about 5 more "poor" here) fit on virtually all the parts, it needs about 2 more weeks minimum.  This way it will end up with a lot more neat things done to it than I would have had time for.

Looking forward to more of your wonderful updates!  And better a build your proud to show off than a slap job you would rather put in file 13.

Ah yes, Life has a way of doing that from time-to-time. Can't wait to see the updates anyway.

So this build has morphed from a throw-down to a proper Chuk-job?  I look forward to seeing how you cut open the belly of this beast and fab up the bottom-end of the engine, fully-displaying the open crankcase with crankshaft and rods!!! 

But I don't want to give you any ideas. 

Nice way to turn the lemonade into wine.
