Well everybody's posting what scheme they are going to go with except for me I guess. I'll be going with Franz Stigler's Yellow 2 in the form of a G-6 model. The story behind this plane is that he escorted a terribly shot up B-17 (Ye Olde Pub) plioted by Charlie Brown out of Germany. He was going to shoot the bomber down initially which would have awarded him the Iron Cross but couldn't bring himself to do it when he saw the condition of the B-17 and its crew and shows a time when an enemy still had honor and a sense of decency. This incredible story is covered in the book "A Higher Call" and is slated to be turned into a movie in the upcoming couple of years. The book goes into the background of both pilots and some of the B-17 crew, their encounter in the skies above Germany and their reunion almost 5 decades later. If you haven't read the book, it is a must read I'll tell you.
Anyways the decal sheet is from Kits World and comes with the 109 and the B-17 decal set:
One of the interesting things about Franz is that he had the opportunity to serve with Hans Joachim Marsielle in the desert and in JV44 with the likes of Galland, Krupinski and a select few other fine airmen of the time.
Here's a pic of the painting depicting the encounter:

I guess you missed my post so here's my entry for the GB
Too many models to build, not enough time in a lifetime!!
Doug (Rigid): Thanks for the encouragement! I've been looking at the various include schemes for that Hasegawa kit, and saw Hans Hahn's option and thought it would be interesting, but apparently the whole red nose, red tail thing is an error...too bad. I'll keep poking around for interesting options though. I think I will use this opportunity to try my hand at mottling though, so I may give Marseille's a pass until later (or maybe I'll be able to build 2 109s)
Joe (Mustang): Really looking forward to seeing you build that Royal Class 109; what a beautiful kit! I was just looking at it online and it includes an actual piece of a 109 as well? Very cool. I'll get to enjoy it vicariously through your build. Don't forget a WIP picture of the etched glass...with beer in it of course.
Looking forward to this sucker starting up.
Allen
I'm narrowing down my subject Joe, and have several things still coming from the LHS but will still be building a Jg 54 "Emil" used in the Balkans in 1940/41.

Iowahawkeye Is that the kit that comes with the cool, etched beer glass? Pricey little guy....sure you want to piece it out rather than do a complete build? (maybe I have misunderstood the group build concept? Never have participated in one before...)

Eduards Royal Class kit:
Unless there IS another kit out there that has one that I don't know about.
If you have got or can get a 109 kit we'd love to have you join us in building starting on January 1st.
You're gonna do just fine Clemens.....just fine. Nice choice by the way.
I thought I'll just post a pic (actually two) of what I intend on building:
I'm going to build this kit as a JG 300 bird. "Red 6" on top of this Eagle Cals sheet to be exact:
I guess I'm gonna have some fun mixing all kinds of semi-transparent shades of grey and spraying those on top of a normal 109 camoflage scheme. I'm actually really looking forward to this! I have to get the paint scheme to look really good and interesting, because there are literally no stencils on the entire aircraft except for a few fuel indication triangles. Everything is painted over with black or gray paint.
I'm very likely going to add a bit more of AM stuff:
Chanter! (Allen) I've been hoping you would join in! I thourghly enjoyed your Wurger finish and as with all entrants love to see what you have to offer this time. Dont worry about duplicate entries! Each has their own distinct spin on their subject. I was also glad to see Bish do a 32nd, and that (is it 1/8th scale Bish) your planing will be magnificant! By the way Chanter, You only have about 35.000 choices to make in the combined 109 field so I know pickings will be tough... LOL. By the way, I ran across a good site for some types of research today, some may alrerady know of it but for we who didnt its... www.luftwaffe.be
It posts alot of missing pilots and aircraft and is always building as new info arrives. Happy Labor Day all! (those who celebrate that is) Take care!

LionOfLux. Just need to finally buy an AB system...
I missed you in the welcome part of the forum so I'll say it here: Welcome aboard! If you've got questions , don't hesitate to ask. Got a modeling problem? We're all here to help out. There's a whole bunch of good fellas here that love to talk models and are here to have fun at what we do best--build stuff!
Tom:It would be a pleasure to have you on board and that finished 109 looks fantastic. Just a preview of the fine work that's gonna be coming out of folks when we get this thing kicked off.
Allen:Either bird would be a great entry for the GB. The Hasegawa kit will have more detail of course. Before I got alot of the weathering skills I have learned here at this site I built a Hasegawa G-10 and it had some good detail. Thank you for the comment on the Butcher Bird GB. I actually had no idea just how big that thing was gonna be (and it's still ongoing.).
Hiya Mustang,
I'm interested as we'll. I have Revell's 1/48 F-4 (Marseille's) that I was itching to get at, as he is a favourite LW subject of mine. I also have a 1/48 Hasegawa F-2 that can be done up in one of four schemes that I may do instead, since Bish has dibs on Marseille's.
Your Butcher Bird GB was my first and I really enjoyed it.
Not exactly a move Tom, more an occasional visit. Nothing till pull me away from my beloved 72nd for to long.
yes, I had heard he was a party man, often associating with film stars and such. His aircraft was an obvious choice for me mainly down to the simple scheme. I also have Hartmann's G-6 and Galland's E-4 in 32nd, but I wanted to ease in gently and not have to worry about mottling and such.
I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so
On the bench: Airfix 1/72nd Harrier GR.3/Fujimi 1/72nd Ju 87D-3
Thanks. Yes, I will be going that scheme. I like the "hybrid" look. Forest camo with the mottling, fore and aft. Looking forward to it.
Bish. Good point. With these 1/32nds, there's no excuse to not have 'em looking sharp! Glad to see you made the move over to the scale. With a Marseille bird, no less! He was quite an interesting ace.
Cheers, guys...
-Tom
With all these 32nd hase 109's, we will have no excuse not to get them right.
I do like that scheme Tom.
panzerpilot 1/32 Hasegawa G-10, Heinz Ewald, it will be!
1/32 Hasegawa G-10, Heinz Ewald, it will be!
SchattenSpartan Bish: Holy cow, you really are going big! It's nice to know I'm not the only one building one of the big Hasegawa kits!

You should have worked me out by now. I like to do something a little different now and again.
Please put me in Mustang. Great chance to build my 1/32 ROG Bf109G-6.
Looks like this one is a go then! I kinda knew that this GB was going to draw quite a bit of interest, but all the replies in such a short tme is simply overwhelming. Good to see some guys from the 190 GB here too!
Greg: I never had a look at the Zvezda 109. This is going to be interesting!
I'm interested.! The stash is heavy on 109's. It'll be a 1/32. TBD. I really enjoyed my last 109, so looking forward to more mottling and RLMs!
Doug:Bout time you showed up!!!! LOL . Looking forward to the "lizard skin" camo scheme. You never disappoint.
ajd:Going with an E-7 eh? and in the mottle paint. Looking forward to this build.
Jack:Would love having you in here for "round 2"!! Glad to have you on board.
bvallot:Come on with it, whatever it is, it'll be good!!
Greg:Calling all Zvezda builders.....calling all Zvezda builders..............all aboard!!! lol
Joe:Really glad to have you here as well to be part of this. We still have a couple of months ahead of us so you've got plenty of time to choose which one you want to build.
There, I think I'm caught up! There's already enough participation to start this build thread! Good stuff!
Pencil me in. I have a plethora of Hasegawa 109's in the stash, unless I find Eduard's taboo G-6 on Ebay for 5 buck in the meantime........lol..
Joe
"Can you fly this plane and land it?...Surely you can't be serious....I am serious, and don't call me Shirley"
Uh, gee, let me think.....
Yes please! I even have a specific kit in mind.
I'd like to throw my name in this hat too. I'll figure out the specifics later. I have plenty enough going on at the moment. But this sounds great! =]
On the bench:
Tamiya F4U-1 Kenneth Walsh
Count me in as interested.
I didn't even get close to completing my build for the last 109 GB, maybe I can get it done this time around.
regards,
Jack
