The Ilyushin Il-2 Sturmovik (any version, including the Il-10).

What it lacked in elegance and finesse sure got it in sheer firepower and survivability.

I think I've answered this subject three or four times already but hey why not again!?!

Allied:

US: P-47D bubbletop (the hulking bar-room brawler)

UK: Spitfire Mk XIV (the graceful lines of the early models combined with the sheer brute power of the Griffin engined late model)

Soviet: La-7 (kinda brutal looking like the P-47 and generally superior to any Luftwaffe machine, the VVS came a long way in those four years)

Axis: Kawanishi N1K1 Shiden (along with the Nakajima Ki-84 Hayate pretty much the height of Japanese aircraft technology of the war).

Sorry but I think all German aircraft were pretty butt-ugly- if I had to pick it would be the FW-190D 

Oh man that's tough.  I guess I'd have to say top 3

- Avenger (What a roar that engine makes.  Makes your chest thump)

- 190 (Always loved German equipment & Camo)

-  He162 (What a crazy machine!)

Horten H-18 flying wing---the most beautiful of the flying wings.

Actually, to be honest, my favs are the aircraft I'm working on at the time.  When I get an urge to build something, I just think it's the coolest aircraft and hafta have it on my shelf.

on the bench;

HSG  P-47-d bubble top in NMF

MGRM B-26 Marauder in D-Day colors

i think the most beautiful are A6M Zero and P-51 of course. and probably Me 262 because it's one of the first jet . And one more it's soviet  I-16 (early period of WW2 but there were many in Spain civil war and in Khalkhin Gol

I have 6 favorites in no particular order:

Curtiss P-40. Nothing says WWII quite like it.

Supermarine Spitfire. Most elegant aircraft design of WWII

Messerschmidt BF 109. Willi's lil fighter just looks so damn cool

North American Mustang. The plane just drips victory

Grumman Wildcat. Rolli-polley fighter that was tough when we needed it

Mitsubishi Zero. Japan's wonder fighter that seemed unbeatable.

I like the spitfire mk vbs with the tropical radiator in aussie markings! But one of my favourites at the moment is the bristol Blenheim mk 1

Other two (for full podium): Curtiss P-36 Hawk and Hawker Hurricane!

To look at, it's the P-38.  To model, gotta be the 109.

Ever since the old TV show "12 O'clock High" and Col. Gallager flying the P-51D, the Mustang has been my favorite.  Hands down.  That may be a common choice but there it is.  Second has to be the Forked Tail Devil, P-38.  Those big twin engines are just awesome plus that firepower blazing out the nose.

For me it'll always be the p-51d. My great uncle use have one, and ever since I saw it at an airshow when I was little I was hooked. Second favorite would prolly be the dauntless

Any version of the F4U Corsair, and, running a close second, the Focke-Wulf Fw-190D-9. Kurt Tank designed one mean-lookin' plane with that one.
