Paging Dean, Dre, et al--Pulled the Trumpeter 1/32 MiG-19PM from stash... :-)

MiG GB! I like it. I guess any national markings? But whatever you guys think.

This will be good for my motivation. Since I build only one kit a year, takes a while to get my confidence back up. Because there's apparently no aftermarket for this Trumpeter kit, this will have to be a strictly OOB build. Probably a good thing after the tons of AM I used on the Flanker, lol.

Hmm..   Russian stuff in other national colors?   I have enough decals to pull that off.

What should the theme be this time though? Migs again? Or something different? Also I have a LOT more free time so I will be able to stick to a deadline if there is one. I have been itching to make the Trumpeter 1/32 Mig 21MF I think Romanian Mig 21s are great because they're different, but I have an F-16, F-105, EA6B, HE-111, Mig-15, SU-27, Sea Vixen, and some others, not a very big stash at all but enough to keep me going for a good while, but I am absolutely willing to buy a new kit if we are all agreed on a GB and I have nothing for the theme. So what do you guys think? Shall we do it?

Sounds good- you can always go nuts and paint each major panel slightly different (something I've wanted to try myself).

Speaking of MiGs...  I was wearing my MiG t-shirt in the Atlanta airport last year when some guy gave me a thumbs-up and said "they make good aircraft".

As for the finish, I'm thinking it would be something in between full-on factory-new shiny and junkyard dull, maybe something like Theuns suggested.

PB- I say go for the MiG!!   As for the NMF- there's so many ways to show it that I guess it depends on how new or old you plan on making the aircraft.   From shiny, factory new to dead flat gray junkyard hulk, it's all good.

I have found that airframe allu over gloss black gives a high shine, but then to tone it down with alclad semi matt.

It removes the mirror look but still gives "depth" to the paint.

Luckily, I got a little practice with Alclad with my last build (Flanker) so I wouldn't be going in totally cold.

I think the trickiest part would be picking the right Alclad shade. MiGs shouldn't look to chrome-y, I'm guessing.

I must admit that here in South Africa bling is very expensive and my limited modling budget rarely allows for it so I have to make do with scratchbuilding stuff. Sure it will never compare to resin stuff but the 19 had a relatively simple office and acording to the many reviews of this kit it actually is highly detailed, maybe just a set of PE harnasses will be needed.

As for NMF it is the easiest thing in the word to do . The most important thing is to have a flawless surface before painting, easy to do with a good set of sanding pads :-)

Personally I prefere Alclad stuff for ease of aplication, but there are so many others on the market.

I am leaning towards the Chinese AF markings myself, haven't done that before

Hey, Dean! Nothing fancy for the build, just whatever makes it shiny with red numbers. :-) Although it would be my first attempt at a NMF. What could go wrong?? Yikes.

The problem is that as usual, I'm waffling between the MiG and another big build, the Revell Ju 88A-1. Can't decide. Hm.

Theun--Nice! I wouldn't mind going full AM bling, but I actually can't find much aftermarket. I saw a cockpit set on eBay, but seems like the kit pit is already pretty nicely detailed. Other than that, Eduard has PE sets only for the 1/48 version. You find anything else?

I would like to add a MiG-19 in 1/48 scale to my collection of Mikoyan-Gurevich aircraft.  Anyone have any suggestions for one or opinions?  Thanks, Gary.

Sounds good, I am actually currently at the painting stage with a 1/48 Eurofighter, when did you have in mind for the build? I've a good few Russian birds to make still.
