Thank you Uncle Jay Jay.  Your words are too kind.  I’m most humbel.  I don’t know if I’ve arrived just yet.  I still feel I have much to gain yet I’ll be studying FSM Forum Members builds to get better and aquire their technique!  As for the gloss coat, I utilized Testors Clear Lacquer Spray Can.

Thank you Hunter.  Your words are too kind.  The paint work is part of the clear high gloss hence the shine.  It helped me with the application of the decals.  Thank you sir for the read and reply.  Your support is greatly appreciated!

Here she is with the final flat coat to seal everything in.  I still have to assemble the resin propellers.  I hope you enjoy the build.

Hey Toshi, that is looking great!  I am jealous of your skill with decals.  I think I remember you saying you use Tamiya extra thin to settle them?  I could be wrong (memory isn't what it used to be, lol).  If you do, where did you learn that technique?  I had not heard of that prior to you mentioning it.

Lol! That's one of my little tricks I shared a while back, Dwayne.

You have to be very careful when using LC on decals! One swipe and leave it alone to dry. If needed, repeat, but go slowly as the LC will dissolve the carrier film and can start to eat the pigments of the decal if you get to carried away. This sometimes requires some "repairs" with a hairy stick.

Sometimes the decals will wrinkle alarmingly, but they settle back down with no ill effects. Depends on the age of the decals.

That trick does get rid of any silvering like a boss, but use it cautiously and be prepared for repairs as needed. Always clear coat after any repairs and you'll sometimes end up with some realistically painted on / repaired emblem effects.

Last thing to note in the process is that you must make sure the decals are in place before you use any LC on them. Once you use the LC there is no going back. They will never move no matter what you use on them after that.

So be very careful and use a mule to practice on so you know how your particular decals will react before you use that trick on a build you put a lot of work into.

After a few builds you'll know what reactions to expect and when and where to use LC on your decals.

Just keep that in mind. :)

Thank you ManCityFan!  Yes, your memory is correct Dman!  I utilize Tamiya Extra Thin Cement.  As you continue to read below, I learned that skill/technique from M.Brindos.  Let me just say that is an extremely difficult skill/technique.  It took me a while and a few bad mistakes because I rushed it, but in the end it’s worth it as you can see.  Please read below for M.Brindos’s detailed explanation of utilizing Tamiya Extra Thin Cement for your decal application.  Isn’t this great, we learn so much from each other!  FSM Forum is the BEST!!!

Good information.  Thanks Mike and Toshi.  I happen to have a junk model and some extra decals from the T-34 I am working on.  Sounds like some experimentation is in order.  Geeked  Always looking for new techniques, and this one sounds interesting.

No problem, Dwayne. It's definitely not a basic skill to learn as it can potentially go horribly wrong. But when all else fails...

practice first, for sure.

Toshi, you're the man. We voted on it. Lol

your P-61 is looking fabulous by the way. You're convincing me to give this kit a try lol. I could always hang it from the ceiling lol!

lol!  lol!  I can only try.  Thank you for the kind words on my P-61 Black Widow build.  You should build one and add your M.Brindos scratch building magic into one of these bad babies then hang it from your wall.  And create a wall of fame (Planes) like I did.  lol!

It‘s definately my pleasure and I think I can speak for M.Brindos and I’m sure it’s his pleasure as well.  That’s a perfect example to utilize, a junk model and extra decals or old decals from another build.  Yes, just practice and experiment and you’ll be good to go.  I think this is a technique you don’t see everyday so it’ll be a very interesting project to work on.  Just remember, this is very important; “Less is more”.

Thank you so much Model Maniac!  You are correct in your statement in that the P-61 Black Widow; “Is 95% finished”.  I completed the assembly of the resin propellers.  They are painted and have been decaled as well.

I’ve been very busy with Mrs. Toshi, she has to go to Cleveland at the Seidman Cancer Center for her Proton Radiation treatment everyday, five days a week, Monday through Friday for six weeks.  This keeps me busy, plus I baby sit my grandson Ezra a couple of days a week.

I‘ll have photos of the completed propellers posted sometime later this evening.  Thank you for your support in my Black Widow build.  I extremely appreciate it!
