ManCityFan

Hey Toshi, great job on that huge bird.  Forts have a special place in my heart due to my father being in one during WWII.  I really like the color scheme on this one.

Again, great job, and thanks for posting your builds.

Your friend,

Dwayne

Thank you ManCityFan aka Dman.  I know Flying Fortresses are very special and close to your heart due to your father being on one during WWII.  He was a very brave man, a very brave man to step into a B-17.  And I thank him for that.  If I recall correctly he was a ball turret gunner under the belly of the B-17.  Please correct me if I’m wrong!  That is just amazing, almost unbelievable what he and that crew did.

I’m Glad you like the color scheme of the B-17G called “Chow Hound” My heart was set on OD as I already owned a NMF Visible Monogram 1/48 B-17G Flying Fortress.

It is always my pleasure posting my builds.  That’s how I learned.  So I want to thank you for sharing the story of your dad with me as well as FSM Forum  Members.  I also want to thank you DMan for always supporting my builds over the last couple of years.

B-36Andy

Looks very good!!

Back in 89, I built 10 of these for the local library and got them to the stage of being painted with no decals. The library said they didn't want them at that point and I was moving across the country and didn't have room for 'em---So I left them all lined up in the backyard of my house and drove away--maybe someone appreciated 'em----

Good to see yours finished and valued!!

Thank you so very much B-36Andy!  WOW oh WOW!!!!!!!  Ten of these?  That’s an amazing feat!  Even for having them painted with no decals.  That’s too bad that the library neglected to consider the amount of work especially the time you put in to build ten Flying Fortresses.  Not to mention the space needed to assemble ten B-17G’s at 1/48.

I‘m saddened that you had to leave them behind in such a manner.  That’s really too bad and the library should be ashamed of themselves.  I truly hoped that; ”Someone appreciated ‘em- - - -“ as you mentioned.

I too am happy that I finally completed my B-17G.  It took a couple of months but it did get finished.  I do value my builds and enjoy them greatly especially when FSM Forum Members like you sir whom support my projects and read and replies to my threads.  I thank you B-36Andy.

Looks good Toshi, specially brush painted.

Thank you plasticjunkie.  It took a lot of time and paint but it was fun and very productive for me.  It actually got me back in touch with my childhood.  Remember brush painting with those white thick black nylon Testors brushes?  lol!  It brought me back to those early days of modeling. Thank‘s for checking in with my B-17G build.

Toshi....again, you have crerated a masterpiece!  It has been great watching the progress of your beautiful build.  Superb work sir!

Thank you Eagle90.  Your words are too kind and I’m most humbleled.  I’m so very happy that you enjoyed the progress of my build it definately took a while, two months.  My eighteen month old grandson keeps Mrs. Toshi and I very busy so bench time is sporadic at best.  lol!  Thank you for following along and the read and replies.

1943Mike

Another well done model for the great wall/ceiling of Toshi!

Any plans for a Liberator?

Thank you 1943Mike.  In the fourth picture there’s a Revell 1/48 B-24D Liberator.  I built two.  The first one I donated to one of Mrs. Toshi’s friends son.  He hung it in his bedroom.  He then built a Flying Fortress.  Thank’s 1943Mike for stopping by.

Shipwreck
Another good one, Toshi. I love that B-17; I have three of them. You have encourged me to build one, someday!

Thank you very much Shipwreck.  Wow!  You really love the B-17 having three of them.  Are they of different makes and sizes or all from the same company and size?  Good luck in your B-17 build and I eagerly await the build.  Hopefully in a WIP here.  Thank you for your support in my builds!

mmthrax

It turned out really great Toshi.  How do eat a sub sandwich?  One bite at a time.  That is what you have done with this aircraft.  Small bites brings the victory.  Really happy for you......and inspired for me.  Thanks for keeping us posted as you have kept moving forward.  I wish you continued positivity.  I do hope that the issues with Mrs. Toshi get sorted.  I know how that stuff can weigh on the both of you.  I'm sending you positive brain waves and my thoughts are with the two of you.  Best regards, Mark

Thank you so very much mmthrax as well as sending positive energy; “Brain waves” to the both of us.  It’s extremely appreciated.  It is my pleasure to keep you and FSM Forum Members up to date with my progress as this is how I learned with the feedback from everyone of you Forum Members.

I really love the saying; “How do you eat a sub sandwich” as I’ve never heard this saying before.  This is why I love FSM Forums as I learn something everyday.  Thank you for your support, read, and replies, it’s greatly appreciated!

BrandonK

Well done, Toshi. You've outdone yourself on this one. I hope you brace that wall, it may fall over with all that weight hanging on it.

BK

Thank you so very much BrandonK.  This build could not have been accomplished without FSM Forum Members help like from you.  I am most sincere about this and not just saying this for the sake of saying this.  The guidance given to me has been well received and applied to each and every build!

I am not worried at all on bracing the wall!  lol!  lol!  But I am seriously concerned about the 3M tape and hook/hanger I use to display my aircraft on the wall.  Especially something as big as the Revell 1/48 B-17G.

Luckily, there’s a description on the hook/hanger box telling you how much the particular 3M tape can hold via ounces or pounds.  I just always as a safety precaution purchase the 3M tape that can hold the maximum weight possible.

I don’t know if you recall my Revell 1/32 F-4 phantom, Hobby Boss 1/48 Black Widow, and my Revell 1/48 “Pheil” falling from my ceiling a few years back.  I just want to prevent that from happening again.  lol!  Thank you BrandonK for everything you’ve done for me.  It’s greatly appreciated!

Gamera

She turned out great! Beautiful work!!!

And my hopes and prayers for Mrs. Toshi's health.

Thank you Gamera, I could not have gone through this without the support of FSM Members like you.  I thought painting this kit by brush would be a pretty cool way of therapy.  Now looking back on this, I must have lost my mind literally.  lol!

You see, my memory is so bad that I’ll come back to the bench the next day and wonder what happened or what I did.  So when I saw that I started to paint a part of this by hand I just kept going with it.  lol!  It’s like some of the weathering I did.

I thought I was just going to build a clean Flying Fortress until I saw that I scuffed parts of the plane up with a Prismacolor silver pencil so I just went with it.  lol!  lol!  Gamera, Thank you for the support you’ve given me over the years.  It’s highly appreciated.  Also thank you for the well wishes of Mrs. Toshi!

Congrats Toshi on a wonderful finish.  The pictures of it in the snow just seems to give it a feeling of pride, honor ,and duty, yet also shows the reality of cold, dread, and possibly death to those who had to work and fly in this plane.

Thank you so very much scottrc.  I’ve could not have described the photos in the snow better.  I was going for the dreaded mission in the snow that makes things possible but also makes it that much more miserable.

The men whom indeed fly in this plane must have been extremely brave and as you said with; “Pride, honor, and duty,”.  I did read that this particular B-17G did succumb and crashed in 1944.  A sad ending to a magnificent crew. Thank you sir for the reminder of the horror‘s of war and the support you’ve given me through the years!
