Here is the almost completed B-17G.  There’s still a few areas I have to clean up plus I need to paint the wing and tail tip area red.  Then the decals will be applied.

My my grandson just took a nap.  So I took this opportunity to attach the engine and cowling to the wings.  Next up is to paint the cowlings.

Once again, something I need to try!

I purchased a bunch of Walmart acrylic paints as it’s only $0.99.  Of course I would not recommend large areas of coverage with these $0.99 paints but they are fun to experiment with.  And every now and then, I’ll hit on something that works ie: gun barrels.

Don’t get me wrong, you can not compare these to Vallejo paints but as I mentioned above, they are cheap, inexpensive, and fun to experiment with! Thank you mawright20 for your support in my projects.  It means a great deal to me.

Watchin' for an update on this bird there good Toshi.

Right now there are no updates as my grandson whom was suppose to go home last night ended up staying with Mrs. Toshi and I due to the fact that Ezra‘s mom got snowed in last night.  She’s supposed to pick him up at or around noon when the roads clear.

I had to by a gate to close off the den as he got in here and started to play with the AB box.  Of course he goes for the most expensive tool!  lol!  As soon as he goes home I’ll be mounting the engine cowlings and painting them the appropriate color.  Thank you for your patience on this matter, it’s greatly appreciated.

Toshi! How’d you get those barrels? Their awesome!

They are custom barrels scrutinized and made by: just kidding!  lol!  lol!  These barrels are OOB by Revel.  All I did was take some Walmart brand acrylic Gun Metal and mixed it with a little Walmart brand acrylic Silver and water.  That’s it.  Thanks for stopping by my friend!

Great job there with the hand-brushing Toshi.

And the ball turret framing looks really good. I've tried to hand-brush the frames before but always make a mess of them and end up just buying the pre-made masks when I can.

If I tried to hand paint frames they'd come out looking like a drunk 10 year old did it. He's got a better/ steadier hand than I do that's for dang sure.

Actually my last hand-painted canopies looked like they were done by a howler monkey on meth holding the paint brush in his toes.....

All joking aside looks great Toshi!

lol!  lol!  “Monkey on meth.  That would be quite view to see!  Especially with a brush between his toes!”

Thank you sir for all your support through my years here at FSM Forums.  You just don’t know how much influence this has had on me!

Thank you, Toshi, for the extra work!  I appreciate it.  I have always found the ball turret to be one of the most difficult and frustrating painting tasks on B-17's and B-24's.  I have a B-17E in work on a diorama and got around it by making that area battle damaged and under repair.  LOL, no ball turret paining.

It is my pleasure to do so.  Yes, all turrets tend to have frustrating situations.  Some larger than others.  i’d love to see the B-17E diorama, this sounds like an exciting project.  Good luck on the B-17E.  I’ll continue this build in it’s diverse Progress.

I highly doubt that your canopy frame painting by hand would look like a; “Drunk 10 year old” that did the painting.  lol!  lol!  But your words are too kind.  Thank you for your/the support in my projects.  It’s greatly appreciate it!

Thank you so very much, Gamera.  Doo mo arigato gozaimasu Gamerasan.  I’m most honored that you like my rendition of painting the ball turret.  Sometimes I can do it and at other times it looks like diarrhea!  lol!  I try my best knowing that my work will not only be seen by my closest forum members but of other members whom are from around the world.  This is inspiration for me.  Thank you for always supporting my builds!

Keyda81

Wow Toshi, the paint looks great!  I have this kit in my stash, but I don't have anywhere to put it once built, lol.  Watching your WIP is making me want to drag it out and build it anyway.

Thank you Keyda81.  That is an issue with me as well.  I’m slowly running out of room on the wall to place it in.  lol!  You might have to either hang it from the ceiling or the wall.  But you should build it.  You have a great talent on painting large aircraft.  Thank you for the support in 2017 and 2018!

crown r n7

Toshi looks beautiful how any b17’s did you build? I almost bought one at hobby Lobby today but I have no where for it it’s raining down here that means it’s going to warm up again lol

Thank you crown r n7.  I have built a total of three B-17G’s.  My first one is the original Monogram 1/48 Visible B-17G.  That kit is completely loaded with PE in the entire interior front to back.  It was chosen for the Digital Readers Gallery.  I was most honored!

The second Fortress was a minicraft 1/144 B-17G and of course this build will make it Flying Fortress number three.  Thank you crown r n7 for always supporting my builds!

Let me be the first to say AWESOME!!

Looking really good.  The paint looks great.

Thank you mmthrax, your words are too kind.  I’m most humbled.  It took two coats and some brush ups here and there to clean it up.  Oh yes, not to mention one whole bottle of Model Master paint bottle to complete!  lol!  Thank you sir for the support in my project!
