Excellent progress.  The paint is going on very smoothly.  Is that right out of the jar?, or are you doing anything to it?

Also, I noticed the rear wheel is down.  Are you planning on displaying it on the ground with the bay doors open?, or in the air deploying payload?

The paint is right out of a jar and the only thing I do to it is to take three bamboo skewers and vigorously pre-mix the paint.  The only time I take paint out of a jar is when I AB or when I go into detailed painting or if I have to use a wash to create an effect like if the bulkhead is worn out/used.  

Yes, I am displaying the B-17G in a landed position with the bomb bay doors open.  I might use the bomb cart, we‘ll have to wait and see as that’s still far off.  I do this as my displays for my Aircraft are hanging on my wall, in-flight aitcraft positions dont do well hanging on my wall.

Talking about the Tony, I have in my stash the old Rvell 1/32 KI61 from 1972 and believe it or not, it's a pretty decent kit. Heck I graduated from High School the following year so talk about an ancient kit LOL!

I gathered the Aires resin pit and fresh Techmod decals to model the deadly Teruhiko Kobayashi's blue 24 of the 244 Sentai that defended Tokio. By May 1945, Mayor Kobayashi had shot down 14 American planes, 10 being B-29s.

 

Wow, you still have a ‘72 Ki-61 1/32 kit?  Amazing!  I’d love to see a WIP on that kit.  Especially since you have aftermarket parts.  Thank you for the historical information, it’s greatly appreciated.  Also thank you for always supporting my builds!

Yes actually it was Madras Maiden!  She was in Buffalo for a weekend.  I didn't get to take a ride, but I did get to see her taxi in, then back out, and got to walk through once they were done with rides.  It was great!

As for my grandson Ezra painting the hard to reach spots we’ve already tried coloring with crayons and found out he‘s not ready yet as he destroys the crayons.  I can already foresee his destructive powers on the B-17G.  lol!  Thank you littletimmy for always supporting my builds.

I wasn’t even thinking of building the Ki-61.  At least not until M. Brindos recomened this kit.  What sealed the deal was when Model Maniac posted a photo of one of his many artistic builders Ki-61. What looks really fun is the coloring of the fuselage.  Especially the camouflage of which looks challenging at best.  

As always I’ll be doing a WIP on this kit.  Thank you goldhammer for checking in on all of my builds.  Especially the read and replies!

When Monogram originally designed this kit, they intended to include bomb bay details.  But development costs were rising, so the bomb bay was omitted.  That was a shame, but it was an opportunity for a lot of us to try our hand at scratching it, when we built this as kids.

 

Unlike the Visible B-17G of which has a clear fuselage, in the original kit, unfortunately as you explained the issues Monogram had at that time made the bombs literally useless.  I almost omitted the bombs at one point but then decided to open the bomb bay doors up, something I’ve never done before.  

I always wanted this kit as a child but could not afford it.  So here I am some forty years later building the B-17G a dream that finally came through.  Thank you so much for stopping by and especially sharing this information.  I greatly appreciate it.

Yeah!!!  I recieved my Ki-61 today.  I got it for $21.63 from Tokyo Hobby via eBay.  Great bunch there that works hard to get your kit to you.  Plus they have quick replies.  

Please understand, I’m not trying to advertise for Tokyo Hobby.  All I’m trying to say is they are very professional.

The Ki-61, It looks fantastic.  Great kit, comes with everything like the canopy masking.  Wow.  And of course the clear fuselage of which I will Definately utilize.  This will be my next project my fellow forum members.

So I’ve decided to open up the bomb bay doors.  It still needs to be cleaned up and squared off.  Here’s a dry fit.

To my fellow Forum Members,

Here is my recent update on this build, I have weathered the interior with a product Mrs. Toshi purchased for me when I first started to build kits.  I finally found this product in my tool box.  It’s by Liquitex and the color is Burnt Umber.  I watered it down at about a 50/50 mixture, almost dry brushed it on and then used my finger to scoure it.  

I then brushed on Tamiya Weatherine Master system A with a mixture of Mud and Light Sand.  The Radio Operators bulkhead is just a dry fit.  On this build I am thinking of cutting the bomb bay open as it’s closed to display the bombs.  On my Monogram 1/48 Visible B-17G, there was no need to open the bomb bay doors as obviously, the one half of the fueselage was clear.  Thank you Forum Members for following this thread and the many threads I’ve done in the past.

P.S.  I’d like to add that everything was painted by brush.  And I intend to do so for the entire build.
