Hangar rash?  You call that Hangar Rash?  I'll show you HANGAR RASH!!!

No, I won't.  Chuk, you are a different plane of modeling than I am.  I've just learned to call hangar rash weathering, since I don't do that well eitherSmile [:)]

Thanks for the enjoyable update.

Very nice. Such patience rubbing ot all the glue and imperfections.  It is shaping up well and the color looks to be groovy!

When you get a chance I was curious about the use of tape as bomb door hinges and how well that has worked out. I'm working on some fiddeley bomb doors on a PV-1 Ventura and that technique looked as if it has promise! Great work. Glad you are feeling better and enjoyed your weekend! Thumbs Up [tup]

Don't you hate when you paint a part, and then days or weeks later, find a major scratch or huge pit that has to be filled, and you know that wasn't there before! Of course, you gotta fix the dang thing, then go through all the sanding process, then re-prime, then re-paint. That happened to a seat for my tornado chaser about a year or two ago.

Chuk, not only your skill, but your patience is AMAZING! This is such a tremendous build that I'll have to go through withdrawal once you've completed it. In the mean time, please keep my weekly fixes coming...

The sad part is when this build is finished its just going to look like another Plane.  People seeing it wont realise all the work and love you put into this thing.

Oh I wouldn't fret Smeagol, It may just look like another actual 1/1 scale Hell Diver. Ready to Launch on an attack strike!.  The details he has added are going to make an extreme difference than a straight from the box build.  You may not notice the suttle diffs like a new canopy or it.s framing at first blush but even a person unfamiliar with modeling and Hell Divers is gonna see something special about this bird!

Greetings Chuk,

How do you like the Tamiya paint stand?  I'm assuming you have it supported in the bomb bay.  Is there any danger of damaging the interior work?  Thinking about getting one but looking for a review.

Thanks

I have the same model here in my office. After watching this master piece evolve, I think mine will go in the trash! What an amazingly detailed build. Can we recommend the next model?? :-)

Great Job

Coming along nicely, chukw!

That's a great tip about the sanding swabs, I'm going to get me some of those.  There have been so many times I needed to spot-sand, and all that I had was tiny pieces of sandpaper.

Nice use of Post-Its, too. I use them for Luftwaffe splinter patterns, too, they're very handy.

Can't wait for the next installment!

Regards,

Brad

After seeing and reading about this build.  My modeling skills seem like I'm an 8 year old with a tube of glue and sitting cross-legged on my bedroom carpet.Bow [bow]Chuk you are the man.

Thanks, guys- thanks a million!   The build';s comig along, bit by bit- and  now I feel like some real progress is being made!

To answer some questions:

Lufty, I've settled on a Randolph  bird- white ailerons and rudder stripes.   Mal Mayfield at Miracle Paint Masks has made me a custom set, and I'll (hopefully) be painting on the markings and insignis this weekend.  BTW the wheel bay masking wasn't all that hard.  The wet-tissue technique I fing to be hard on delicate bits, as it moulds around 'em, then dries too hard in place.  I can never get all the fibers out, either.

sfcmac, I wouldn't bank on a thin strip of furnace tape holding permanently, unless you also used some superglue to lock it in place.  The adhesive is good across a large area, but weaker on thin strips.

weebles, I love that paint stand!  You'll notice I do lay a piece of a favorite old t-shirt across the bearers to guard the finish.  The bomb bay is protected by a foam insert- I wouldn't dare use it to support the plane with all that etch within!  The Tamiya set also comes witha turntable and some metal spring clips, so it's a real deal.

skydivin, if you trash that kit I'll cry!  Build it, I say!  BUILD IT!! Big Smile [:D]

Again, my friends- thanks for readin' all this hash- see you next time!

Would I be wrong in saying that many of us after watching this long and wonderful WIP have started to think of Chuck as like a modeling hero?  I have, this stuff is absolutley amazing and I can only hope to beable to build like that some day.

Lufty....many of us checked resources to find an active duty -4 in tri-color for chukw to emulate with no luck. So this will be his scheme......gotta keep this one real.
