If you have to buy a complete PE set for the one piece, there is no justice in the world. When i build something, my cardinal rule is NEVER tidy up till the beast is done. Then you cant throw anything out that you might need. Saying that, i lost a piece off another kit i have ready by throwing it out wioth the trash.

Keep searching fella, get your army of Chuks on thier hands and knees.

Capt Chuk leaves the Ready Room ready to go roaring into the wild blue yonder. As he steps through the hatch onto the flightdeck, he smells the salt air, looks at the sunrise, and thinks what a great day to be in this mans NAVY. He walks to his bird and notices that his Ole Girl is a lil long in the tooth but Mechanic Chuk is keeping her purrin' just like she was new. The Capt hears Mechanic Chuk yelling at Ordie Abe. Capt Chuk ask, "Is she ready to go?", with a smile on his face.

Poor Mechanic Chuk takes off his greasy cover and rings it in his hands...." Sir, there's been a SNAFU.." 

Capt Chuk, "What?!!"

 Mechanic Chuk, " Sometime during the night one of the Ordies lost the bomb rack.."

Capt Chuk, " Well how long is it going to take to find it and get er installed??"

Mechanic Chuk says sadly, " I don't know sir."

Capt Chuk shakes his head and walks away. Thinks to himself this was going to be a great day for flying & Yells over his shoulder, " Come get me when she's ready. I'll be in the Ready Room."

All i can say is great build.I Have learned a ton from your WIP, please keep teaching. The above story is what i thought of when you misplaced your PE Bomb Rack. Hope you Enjoy.

I hate it when that happens.  Do you have a cat there Chuk?  Sounds like a cat Chuk!  (personal experience).  Hopefully somebody can caugh up that piece you need.  It doesn't seem to be necessary for the Brewster kit so somebody's bound to have some laying around.  Perhaps an appeal to the FSM and ARC communities will yield a set for you. 

Update - I just did a little searchin and found that in 2006 "Dave23" on this forum purchased the Classic Airframe Brewster Finish Version.  If you can find him you might be able to find your part.  My local hobby shop carries this line.  I'll check and see if they have this in their discount bin.

Well, the Carpet Monster has struck in a most heinous manner- read my most sorrowful tale of woe!

Beautiful chuc!!!  I keep meaning to purchase one of the Waldron Punches, but the price is a little steep right now for me.  It might be a late xmas present to myself! :) 

How long did it take you to maskt the Arrestor Hook?  It looks very tedious!  And which Mr. Surfacer did you use for the hatches?  500, or 1000?  Also, where can I get some of the Bluck Tack to use to hold pieces while spraying?

Brad, you don't need that expensive Waldron punch and die set....you can easily make your own.
I made one using nothing more than a drill press and hand tools....oh - and a bench grinder.

Have a look at the following links - one is for the home made punch and die set, and the other is for a set of landing lights I made using the set.  Easy as falling off a log!

Hi Brad,

If you don't want to make your own punch set, Micro Mark has a pretty decent punch set that's cheaper than the Waldron offering.  It's listed for about $40 on their website now but I got when when they had it on special for about $10 cheaper.

Chukw - Awesome work, I love the detail you're putting into the build.  Thanks for posting.

I cant tell you how many times I have gone through my trashcan trying to find something that fell.  Its the first place I look (besides on the table and such) beacuase they always fall into it! 

@kielers, leemichaeltree--Thanks for the tip, guys, I actually broke down last week and ordered MicroMark's set!    I couldn't go any longer, making instrument panels by drilling holes by hand, I kept having Monk moments trying to line things up and make them uniform.

@Chuck--I don't think we can say anymore, each new installment is as entertaining and informative as the last.

As to the carpet monster, he can swallow things bigger than 1/48 PE bomb racks.  Mine has devoured a needle file about 3 or 4 inches long.  I was filing a piece (good reason to use a file , of course), somehow applied to much pressure, and it flew off into space.  Kinda like Ralphie with the lug nuts in "A Christmas Story".  And it came down somewhere in the basement.  I can't say it's truly lost, because I know it's down there.  But to say more specifically, I'd have to move the kit stash and tear out all of my shelves.

But I digress-this is your show, and it is fantastic.  FSM, please print this in the mag!  Or issue a special edition!

 Chuck I can relate to the lost bomb thingie all do well! I lost a prop hub foe a Do-17 during the BOB GB. Took forever to find it.. Guy came in thru a portal under my bed and found it. Some how I had glued it to the light switch in my closet? That's where it was no kidding!?!

 I know it had to be Luftwoller's mischief.

 Keep searching in a systematic way and it will never be located. Find your happy place and meditate, OOOHHMMM! OOOOHHHMMM! If that doesn't work check Guy's shoes or the cuff in his pants! It will resurface soon! Probably after you make another!

I got the one from MicroMark about six months ago. I've not used it much but it's one of those things that when I want it...

Of course, now that chukw scratchbuilt a new bomb rack, he's going to find the one he lost. Isn't that how it always works?

An update on the sidebar about punch-and-die sets:  My MicroMark set came in the mail yesterday.  I'll try it out tomorrow.  It will be super-useful, but I can see one feature that the Waldron set has and that the MicroMark set does not.  The MM set is not marked for sizes, whether on the template, nor on any package for the punches.  In fact, it's packaged in 2 polyvinyl bags, one with the die plates and one with the punches, and no markings of any kind.  That's not a problem, I'll make a container of some kind for it, maybe a small wooden box.  In fact, I think Michael's sells little wooden boxes for around a buck.  And I can calibrate the punches and template holes.  But there's part of the additional cost of the Waldron set, I imagine.  $39.95 plus shipping.

Kudos again chukw! I was a bit leery about those hatch covers but they turned out wonderfully! You have a way of making a sow's ear into a silk purse!

White Snake-  Masking the arrestor hook was kind a zen thing once I'd set up all the measurements: wrap, cut, wrap, cut... but I was glad when it all done, for sure!  I used Mr Surfacer 100 to build up the details on those hatches- it sprays well.  It took several coats to get it thick enough.  Blue tack?  Try Wal-Mart, Target- or your local hardware store.  It's mainly for hanging posters, etc, without tacks.
