Helldiver! 2/08/09 Post Script

Chuk This is the first time I've said anything on this build. I really could think of anything that wasn't already said, and still can't.  I also can't wait for the next one.

That is one beautiful airplane...If I didn't know any better, I'd swear I can smell the oil and gas!

Now, chukw, it is time to reward yourself by firing up the barbecue, grilling a nice thick top sirloin, baking a potato and tossing a salad, and enjoying an ice-cold beer!

The most informative and entertaining thread I've ever seen on here. Thanks for sharing it all with us and of course, congratulations on producing such a fine model. It really is a work of art.

It would be hard to come up with words that not only describe the pure craftsmenship and beauty of your Helldiver; it would also be hard to come up with the words to describe my thanks for your unselfish work in illustrating and teaching us your craftmenship. You ought to request FSM publish a stand-alone special edition on the build of this fine piece of museum quality work. I would buy multiple copies just in case I ever lost one.

 Sooooooo um. How exactly does one hope to improve from here  Chuck?  That has to be some kinda of pinnicle of perfection from what I see.  I guess you could make one that flew and dropped bombs for real ?

Looking forward to the 410 very much!  And yes I already threw mine in the trash. Good thing you don't build as fast as Guy! I'd need another hobby!

Great timing on your last post, I was looking for techniques on detailing one of these carrier decks for one of my builds.  Your figure techniques are great too.  Thanks for posting.

Your work is amazing but what most impresses me is how fast you do it.  I'm still working on a P-40N I started last April and still don't have the wings attached to th efuselage, though that shold happen in the next few days.

Very nice epilogue, Chuck!  I don't think a model is complete until there is at least one figure, to help give it scale (remember Hooper sending Brody out to the end of the pulpit?  ) and to liven things up.

As to the brush strokes, I wouldn't worry, at distance, they disappear.  Nobody should be getting in that close to take a look, they can't really see the scene at that point, anyway.  It's like stage makeup-never look at an actor in the green room, under fluorescent lights.  You have to see him on stage, under the lights.

A wonderful, wonderful thread, and I'll say it again-FSM should give you at least a feature in the mag, or even a special insert.

Fabulous denoument to the wonderfully entertaining build! The base idea is inspired.

When the first figs showed up though, I was fully expecting to see a (styrene) Li'l Chuck fig laying on a creeper peering out from beneath the beast!

You are definitely hooked, my man.

Now! Put it away and do the Hornet!

Guys, I just want to say thanks to you all one more time- you've really made making all these fershlugginer posts more fun than they oughta be!  I'll be taking the Helldiver over to The Military Shop in Long Beach today for display, so if you ever make out here to LaLa Land you can look it up.

I saw the Helldiver at the Military Shop yesterday as a matter of fact! I'd taken a trip out to Los Angeles to see some of my old friends in the San Fernando Valley and detoured down to Long Beach to see the model. It's fantastic! Definitely worth the extra detour!

In another display case was a 1/72-scale Skycrane helicopter. The funny part is that very morning on my way down to Long Beach, I saw a real Skycrane swooping very low over the freeway!

I stumbled on this thread a week or so ago and finally made it all the way through. Holy smoke! 

I didn recognize most of the names in it, which makes sense seeing that it was seven years ago, but I'm certain there are like minded folks here who will appreciate this, so I wanted to bring this to everyone'a attention.
