Hi Alex! Glad yer getting started! Cool help and hints already up here!

I can play any stringed instument except a banjo.....even a violin.....I know my way around a keyboard and with a synthesizer you get a lot of help. I was a garage band drum banger as a teen....but guitar is the main instrument the past 30 yeaqrs, but not consistently. I can't shred but I have my moments.....as I said this tape CD is almost 8 years old......I listed my guitars on that old Odd n Ends guitar thread if that what was you meant. I'm down to just 4 guitars now.....too much styrene in the blood.

Alex! The interior at 1st appeared dark gray but my view of the back wall shows it to be Green zinc chromate heavily weathered! That's my story and I'm sticking with it!

Take a peek at the outside shot when it is taxing out. Really green with the sunlight. The inside does look dark gray in the pit shots but I wonder if it is the poor lighting?

Aaron - my Dad has some old kahki tan tarps that have USN stenciled upon them. I would paint them  Model Master Enamel "Sand" 33531 as that makes a close match ..

Lt - Thanks for the thoughts, I heard some ice crackiling on the River earlier from the extra H20.

Poor image and overcast sky really messes things up.

Looking around the inside in the rear looks almost light seafoam green for a few seconds.

Yeah , I think so - If we get enough wate to fill the Valley and get in the yard there will have been more serious things leading up to that.  Not sure how high we actually are, here is a pic from Spring (not strapping on the snowshoes to go out and take one) before the water came up. On the point where the rocks turn white is about 12 ' from the water line there. Later on with the runoff the white will be under.

It looks like it would take an awful lot of water but then I thought so too and the hurricane surge came really close to us.  Just thinking of that stash Sean. Shame for the decals to get all wet.  You take care it can rise pretty fast.

And you Nam! I work with a mouse in one hand a paint brush in the other!  Dee is somewhere in the middle! Blush [:I] I took both your advice after I finally pryed it outta yer aniebrietated carcus! # stacks are Seans color and 3 yours to keep it fair. Variety wasn't a bad idea. Gives contrast!  I also took Sean's mention of a stencil. Not USN but I had a few spare Navy decals in black which you can read thru the windows now. Pretty cool!  Thank you fellows!

A little fading with dull coat and rubbing alcohol and I'll close er up. Unless you have any further complaints sir?  Nap time for me gotta work tonight! I was on a roll too! Confused [%-)]

Could one of you fellows scan one of the 1/48 Catalina instruction manuals for me?  I've been looking through my Academy ones, and like all of their instructions, there is little to no color information. Dead [xx(]  I've figured out what colors I need to use for the exterior camo, but the fiddly bits have me beat so far.  Thanks!

Cheers,
Alex

Were good, thanks for the concern Thumbs Up [tup]. There are a lot of people suffering from the snow and and flooding. We had the same thing happen last year, there are parts of Rainer State Park that I think are still closed due to flooding over on the West side.

Besides I wouldnt float by Aaron's place I might get to see Dave - as this river runs North into Canada.

ALex if no~one comes through the best I could do would take a pic as my scanner kicks my butt Disapprove [V]

Alex I've been thinking about scanning the Pro-modeler ones simply because they are cooler instructions. Ref pics and stuff right in there. I have to go to work tonight but as soon as I wake up from my slumber I will be on it!

Thanks fellows but Frank gets the credit for the pennies and Nam and Sean's brain power for the tarps! Teamwork!  There is no eye in Tomato! When the going gets tough the Nam gets meat tenderizer and Sean gets a bigger hammer! Or uses his boots!

I'd be interested in seeing those since I have the new re-release Army version.Sad [:(]

I'd also be interested in any figures that people don't want. Big Smile [:D]

Hooray!Party [party] Three cheers for Aaron!  Bow [bow]Bow [bow]Bow [bow] Thanks!  Have a Make a Toast [#toast] on me, but its gotta be Coors!Wink [;)]

I've started to scan all my instructions so that I don't have to get out a kit just to look at the instructions for it. Plus, people often come around these parts looking for a set to something or other, since they lost their copy.

I think I've finally figured out what colors to use for the exterior of "The Dabster"...she's wild looking!  To look at her, you'd think the Aussies couldn't get paint to stick, and just gave up on her!  Its even cooler because they actually kept just about all of their birds nice and clean.

Here's the colors...
http://www.colorserver.net/showcolor.asp?fs=35042+37038+36118&size=m

I don't know if you folks have seen this site, but it is an excellent resource that I use all the time...oddly enough no one ever seems to mention it, though...

Now for a question...I paint my markings, so I've got some Aussie Roundels coming up soon. As near as I can tell, the colors they used on them were FS 35044 Dull Blue (Insignia Blue, handily) and FS 37875 Identification White (Insignia White, again handily)  If anyone knows of a set of RAAF paint chips or specifications, please point me to them...Anyways, since this bird is beat up, everything is faded and chipped.  Fading the blue is easy...but what does white do? Should I just use a thin coat so the camouflage color shows through, or should I use some grungy offwhite, or use a clean white, but wash and streak it all to hell?  Whaddya think?

Thanks guys!

Cheers,
Alex

Well looking through the few color pix I have from WWII some look a bit dirty on the keel area where others are shiny white while the rest of the plane is heavly weathered and dirty.

Maybe a bit of chipped paint and streaking of some dirt would work.

What figures and scale are you looking for Eric? I've sent bags of them as far away as Britain. All I have are pilots and occasional groundcrew.

My experience with weathered white colors in real life was the white looked and was chalky. If you rubbed a finger on the paint some would be on your finger. These were Phantoms and Tomcats awaiting maintenance and painting in a very salty environment. There also would be some very faded amber colored areas, usually on the spine behind the pit to the tail.....this was evident even on gray upper paint.

Undersides could be problematic.....I saw the pristene and shabby. But of course those A/C usually didn't land on the water!

Roy....I agree with your opinion about Coors.........Newcastle is nice for quick change now and then, but I'm strongly into the whitebread red white and blue.....Bud!Laugh [(-D]
