Thanks for all the nice comments guys. I appreciate them.

Tman, I will be curious to hear how the fit is for that Cav set.  The schurzen set comes with PE rail to replace the kit parts.  As delicate as they are and hoiw easily they brackets break off since the CA glue is as strong in this app, I am wondering if modifying kit parts for better scale should be used.  That way all the supporting stuff can be glues plastic to plastic and be quite strong. Then all you would need to do is make the plates out of sheet styrene. The Edfuard site has the instruction sheets for each set so you can see how they put it all together. AH NUTS... why didn't i think of that before?????Angry [:(!]  Could have save some moola.

And if you are a PE noob, brother did you pick a doozy for your first go.

Well Marc, I haven't built it yet. There was a piece of the back panel that broke off and another part that didn't mold correctly. I also noticed that there are no zim pieces for the engine vent area.

I was wondering if you could use the sytrene rails with the PE Schurzen? Would they fit over the hangers?

There doesn't appear to be a plate for the front hull, just thin zimmerit.

i guess i'm not the type of builder who adheres strictly to build steps.more of a categorizing.lower hull upper hull turret. that sort of thing.which of course includes paint. and at times some weathering and scratchbuilding.oh and that stinky resin. heres a couple of lower hull side shots giving you an idea of the sort of track sag i prefer.the wheels and return rollers  temporarily installed tohelp with forming.the indy links are from dragon kit 9013. this is an old imperial series kit and the links require a tremendous amount of clean-up.sprue attachment points, ejector pin marks, but other tan that i like them.this next photo kinda gives you an idea of what the tank workshop interior looks like.and also a little from above and front.i feel the tank workshop interiors are a little less labor intensive than some others, but i think a have dealt with most now.this last shot shows a turret bottom with basket, but dont go looking in your F2 kit for this, this is from the ausf.e 3 in 1 kit and is just there for show. it will be copied for the f2 in styrene as the ttw is not to my liking.. well thanks for looking any comments are appreciated

Hey guys,

I just got the Wirbelwind. I know that somebody is building it, but thought to ask if I can join into the GB.

Cheers...

I wouldn't worry about getting in the GB.  The fact that you want to duplicate a build may mean nothing.  If your avatar is a photo of you... our illustrious leader has a bike seat pretty much glued to his buttWink [;)]  I would say confidence is high for you gettin' in.Big Smile [:D]

Detailfreak, looking very good so far!

Some test fitting!

And some pre-shade, although not done yet!

I also started painting the commander!

It's the first time I'm trying oil colors, and I'm a bit unsure of how to proceed!

Cheers,

Azgaron

Just so y'all know, I decided to sh*t-can the Academy Wirbelwind and go with the Tamiya (It has a crew)... I found one and won/bought it on Ebay (17.99 and free shipping!) and it should arrive tommorrow..

The Spitfire is on the bench right now..

I believe, like most of Academy's earliest kits, it was a poor copy of the older Tamiya kit. I'd skip it myself. Go for the Tamiya newer Early H that wing_nut is working on. JMHO

My will has broken down, the Hasegawa kit has been opened and looked at.  It sure is tiny.  Wink [;)]

I'm pretty sure I can have this thing started and assembled by tomorrow night....

I'm holding off on painting though, I need to find an alternate paint scheme to the one winter version that the instructions are telling me.  Winter is growing old.  Whistling [:-^]

I started on the Wirbelwind about an hour ago... Spitfire has reached the painting stage... When I get the track ready to paint, I'll likely start the railroad stuff...
Might have to duck out a bit though, I've got a M577 FDC diorama to finish up for the Desrt Storm dio.. Only got about 5 weeks left in that GB..

Dang!!  I haven't had a chance to read all the posts I've missed so far, but I have to pop in just to say,

"BIG THANKS!!!" s.a.r.!!

I've really got to read that article.  I'd rather get my hands on the actual mag, but if necessary I'll pony up for the pdf download!!  Thanks again for the info!

Looking good panzer88.

Hi all.  Finally got all the PE done.  Base coat of the paint is down as well.  Camo starts tonight.  The side schurzen are mounted with some handitack to keep them aligned so the camo stays straight and to make keeping the weathering even from panel to panel.

Hopefully it won't be too long before the next update.
