Hiall,

I'm no where near a camera at the moment, but I've got cracking on my 1/48 IV J. The lower hull is together, and have started on the upper hull. I can't decide whether to add the schurtzen, which Tamiya want you to make yourself, or go without.

Next update soon.

Cheers

Tony

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

For this update I jumped around the instruction sheet a lot. First I focused on the lower hull with the rear armor plate.

Then I worked on the the ideler wheel axle points.

Then I worked on the suspension components. The leaf springs are all one piece. The bump stops don't have locator pins so make sure you line them up with the outlines on the hull.

I then moved on the the upper hull to let the lower dry. I started with the tow hook eyelets. I found that Dragon once again reversed the part numbers again.

The hull MG armor cover plates were next. I was able to make mine swivel by adding a small drop of glue to the post and then placing the retaining ring around that. In the picture below this is where I am now.

Tonight I hope to start the gun assembly.

Evening all.

First of all can I say there are a lot of fantastic builds going on, can't wait to see them all finished.

I've made a little more progress on my Nashorn, all the bodywork is done, along with all 30 parts of the gun!!! Couldn't believe there was that many parts for a 1/72 kitWhistling [:-^]. I decided on a winter whitewash over the base colour, after seeing a photo of a Nashorn "Tiger" from s.Pz.jg.Abt 519, I'm quite pleased on how it turned out.

There is a gap on either side between the side and corner armour plate, I am going to have a go at filling them at some point. Next up is the tracks which are a mixture of indy links and flat lengths, my first time using them.

Alright here is a quick update. I was able to finish the gun last night like I wanted to. I wanted to use the supplied metal barrel buy it was a pain and refused to glue right.

Today, I moved onto the roof. I started with the hatches. The directions look like you can make the hatches moveable so I tried it. The directions tell you not to glue parts A16, and A22 when instead you shouldn't glue A17 and A21 to the roof. A16 and A22 act as a hinge and should be glued carefully.

Then I fitted the periscopes. I'm not sure why they are clear because since I'm just going to pant over them.

Also, the peroscopic sight for the gun is shown in place in the directions but it is not called out. It is part number C37.

I've got nothing to do tonight so I expect I'll have more done for another update tomorrow.

Making progress, almost finished with basic construction, then will put the rest of the zimmerit on before painting. Not happy with my building so far, had some problems on the turret schurzen. Debating now wether to build the hull schurzen.

Thanks Jmart, Panzer 88 and Stickman.

Should have the tracks done this weekend, from my newbie eyes I can't see anyway of adding any sag as the links are only for the drive wheelsBanged Head [banghead].

Does anyone have any info on the Nashorns from s.Pz.jg.Abt 519? The decal sheet came with 4 names on it, "Panther", "Lowe", "Jaguar" and "Puma". I've tried to find some references to these names, with no luck. Are they part of the same unit as "Tiger"?

Now Marc, what did your mother say about playing in the dirt.  I think that you're enjoying this mud slinging way too much.  It looks great by the way.  And you're still on track to be first one done in this GB.  Look forward to the next update.

Finaly, the bulk of it is done. Funny how it is, the photo brings out mistakes quite well, they have been corrected....or covered with dirtWink [;)]

Maybe my next panzer IV won't have wheels, put shurzen on it to cover absence of the return wheels, sink it in the mud to cover the absence of road wheels...anyway...

All right, it doesn't have wheels, but it's the single most important part of the tank!  The Commander! I feel that too few tank models have figures in them.  It gives the tank the human element it needs to feel real.  This is just out of the box, painted with tamiya acrylics, MM acrylics for the face, MM enamel for the white jacket, which was given a acrylic gray wash.  A preview of what is to come!

The pants are fully painted cause he'll be in the cupola.  Second pic is without the flash on, so the shadows really pop.  What do you think?

Marc, nice work with the mud! Looking good!

Castelnuovo, Nice work, which reminded me - I haven't done the wheels yet! Whistling [:-^]

TacoBuff, Nice figure! I'm doing that one for mine too!

Cheers,

Might be the flash, but the eyes look unfinished... He's got a real "Village of the Damned" look goin' on there... 'Course, my guys just get little dark slits, since they all squint out there in the sunlight...  Nice job on the overwhites though... I'm not yet ready to try that uniform.  Stickin' with Feldgrau & Panzerschwartz for now, lol...

If ya want, you can help me out... I got an entire Wirblewind crew, infantry fire team, and an RAF pilot to do, and all of 'em are kitbashed... 'Bout 8 figures altogether..Big Smile [:D]

yeah, its that right eye... likes it's trying to escape from the poor guys head! lol.  I'll paint over that and do the Eastwood Stare instead.  I tried to do a little more detail work on this guy... didn't work!  Lookin forward to seein your figure done Azgaron!

Wing Nut, that's gorgeus! the paint just seems to blend into the next color, very natural!  How did you beat up your muffler like that?

And HVH. Heck yeah I'll help with those figures!  Ship em to the "Wild West" Front! lol  "Gutten Morgen, Herr Cowboy!"

well wingnut it looks like your makin tracks(haha) to your badge.very nice work all the way around.you did very well with the pe. and the paint and weathering makes this pz IV look like its been around awhile.Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]. do you have another lined up to increase your rank? i have progressed a little.picked up a trumpeter drivers seat and transmission and was going to fit that into the dragon f2-g but already have it pretty well fitted for the tank workshop stuff. the lower hull needs a little reworking to get either interior to fit well.it's a challenge and i guess thats what i enjoy the most about it.i'll  be posting some progress pics shortly.

Thnaks DF and yes I have a little surprise for my 2nd stripe.

Unless someone sees something I missed as far as parts and paint ...I know I have to add the cable to the back end...  I am calling this one done.  This is by far the most challenging PE I have done.
One of my concerns is ... is it believable.  Dirt, the way the schurzen hang and so on.  So critique away my friends.

So dupes... who by the way is MIA... I will be claiming the badge with the stripe if  that's OK.

These last 2 are just posed until the guy and gun are done.

Wow! Spectacular job Bow [bow] The weathering is very effective and convincing. I really like the close up of the port quarter, the third pic. Looks like it's ready to rumble off the screen. Very nice. Me likey mikey! Nice job wing-nut on the schurtzen. Nothin' like a panzer in skirts.

Cool [8D]personally i think yuo've pretty much hit her on the head.looks very realistic.any severe damage to the schurzen certainly would have dislodged it completely.the mud looks great.i'm sure someone will find that something has been overlooked.great job wingnut.now for my update, the turret basket and ring from the e model is slightly smaller than the long gunned f-2 and up thru j models so i did'nt want to pirate the assembly from the e kit, instead a copy was made using the e model and what was offered in the tank workshop kit.
got a lot of work before its complete.but its coming along.the forward compart was also requiring the addition of some thin sheet to both cover the holes in the hull sides from the final drives as can be seen by the white in the photos.
heres a photo of the trumpeter forward compartment that is in the dicker max and breuckenlager kits.again it seems that something gets lost between my computer and photobucket s the images appear to be somewhat blurry.thanks for looking.

Marc -- SUPERB work! You ask if it's realistic -- I say it's very high standard work. The plates hang very realistically indeed, and the shell holes are most convincing. In a way, it's a shame to hide all that fantastic detail under skirts (I won't make allusions about beautiful women, this is a PG forum!) and the pre-skirted photos are equally admirable. You've done a very proud job here and can be rightly satisfied!

DF -- that's one ambitious project, and you're taking on a huge task to bring it together. I look forward to watching it evolve!

For my own humble efforts, I finally managed to spend an hour last night on the Italeri Jagdpanzer, freeing the lower hull 'flatpack' parts and cleaning up the attachment points. I think I'll relegate the PE set to a later build and concentrate on the zimmerit this time round. It looks like I'll be working with the zim pretty much from the off, so it'll be a most interesting experiment.

Cheers,

Mike/TB379
