Wow, you put that guy together quickly Steve. I'm liking it. Sometimes old kits have their advantages.

well smj,i thank you for the comment. the paints are your ordinary craft store acrylic hobby paints with names like applebarrel, delta ceramicoat, and lately whatever brand walmart has.the mix is just agenerous dolope of the yellow ochre with a drop of burnt umber mixed in to tone down the yellow.i usually use the underside of whatever i'm painting to color test.then this was all given a wash of lamp black oil paint that hs been thinned to resemble coffee.not done yet though.all this is simply brushed on with a wide soft sable artists brush.i think that some find it hard to believe i still use only brushes, except the primer of course which is rattle can ,but not the cheap stuff you know its pretty shy of pigment in the cheapo cans.SoapBox [soapbox]the l70 is lookin good also.Thumbs Up [tup]

Wow SMJ your Lang is amazing, love the plain colour. I decided to go for a camo scheme on mine, and TBH I'm not to pleased with it, I will get round to posting some pics once I get my act together. It is a nice easy build, ideal for a first kit, I decided to cut some of the schurzen sections off, just didn't look right with them full length.

Look forward to seeing yours all weathered up.

Thanks Mark!  How'd that go with the schurzen?! , I considered separating them for painting purposes but decided not to make things "worse"...or more difficult.

It was more of an after thought, I had them all painted up and sitting on the supports, and it just didn't look right IMO, so I took a knife to themWhistling [:-^]. I wanted to give a "lived in" look to the Jagdpanzer so it kind of made sense to loose some of the schurzen plates.

She's all done now and she's growing on me if I'm honest. All painting was done by hand using Lifecolour and Vallejo paints, along with Mig pigments for the weathering. I gave Mig's dark wash a go for the first time and I'm not sure if I've used it right. I also tried to add a few chips and scratches, which is a first for me, but I need a bit more practice I think.

I've really enjoyed being part of this GB, many thanks Dupes, maybe after I've finished popping my Dragon cherry I can have a go at getting my third stripe. Good luck to everyone still building, look forward to seeing all the finished work

MMC - really like how this guy turned out! The hand painting worked well...did you mix the paint very thin to avoid brush strokes?

It's only the middle of February and you've got a pair of stripes - I see all five in your future with 10+months to go! Looks like you're going to give Wing_Nut a run for his money. Wink [;)]Thumbs Up [tup]

Thanks for the nice comments guys.

dupes, I do add a bit of thinner or water to the paint I use, even Vallejo paints, it does give a nice clean, stroke free finish, I will get an airbrush at some point.

I like to concentrate on one build at a time, strictly OOB, as I don't think my skill level is good enough for an AM parts, although I did have a go at some PE for a Kubelwagon I did for my "Don't worry we're quite safe here" dio.

I will be back for another stripe, I have Academy's Panzer IV with armour and some Academy Links to go with it (a first for me), the IV is my favourite AFV so any excuse to build another one is fine with meSmile [:)].

Mark

That is one nice build, particularly considering that it is hand painted - I think it is a very convincing job!  This is not a vehicle that I am familiar with, so to see your build has been pretty cool for me.

Two quick points/questions: it looks like there is a seam on your gunbarrel, but it also looks like it might simply be the demarcation line between paint colors.  I can't really tell from the pics.  Second, do you use anything to 'snuggle' your decals down?  You seem to have a little silvering of your decals which might be minimized with a spray of future and some Solvaset.

Still, this is one fine looking build!  Can't wait to see you go for your third stripe!

Dupes, could you please add me with the Panzer IV ausf D by Tamiya, 1:35? I know somebody is building it but it was only $21.96 at Squadron. Why miss out?

Cheers...

bbrowniii: Thanks for the comments.

The barrel is all one piece apart from the muzzle and I didn't use anything under the decalsBoohoo [BH]. I've just had another look at the pics and you can really see the dreaded silvering, this is the first time it's happened to any of my builds. Is solvaset available in the UK?

Castelnuovo - will add your Tamiya D to the front page!

MMC - if you can't get Solvaset, there are a number of other decal setting solutions available, some of which are definitely findable in the UK. If I had an issue of Tamiya Model Mag in front of me I could peruse the ads, but I'm sure you can find something at Hannants or somewhere similar. Wink [;)]Thumbs Up [tup]

Congrats again on your second stripe!

Pretty sweet Jagdpanzer MMC. That hand painted camo looks quite convincing as a hard-edge. Did you mask it. Also on the weathering did you use the oil-dot treatment? I've only done it once, but if you stroke the brush up and down rather then random, you'll get a more even streaking. HTH.

Thanks tigerman.

I didnt mask when the camo was done, just painted a start and finish line then filled in, going to try masking next time it's a pain to try and keep within the lines. All the weathering was done using Mig pigments and Mig Dark wash ( thanks to The Doog's insperation ), I haven't tried using oils for weathering, to be honest I'm scared of ruining a build. It was my first time using Mig Dark wash and I wasn't sure if I'd used it right, seemed to be too darkConfused [%-)] although it did leave a lot of streaking and a well used look. It's a lot of fun to practice all these new techniques, and as they say practice makes perfect.

mmc: This is a SOLID build, with a great effort at multiple techniques...great job!

I suggest that you start your own thread in armor with this build.  Summarize what went well and what didn't...ask for comments and critiques...swallow hard and take any negative stuff as a learning experience.  You sound like your underestimating your skills...I like how you're willing to jump in with both feet and model with some guts!  The help/advice from the guys is always helpful.

I'm way behind you on my build now..bogged down in dry brushing...it's coming along nicely though, thanks for being the "guinea pig" for me...Laugh [(-D]

Thanks SMJ the thread is already started, got a lot of positive replies. I've still got a lot to learn when it comes to weathering, got a long way to go to be as good as you and a lot of the other guys.

What do you think of the seperated schurzen?

Glad you already started the thread...I hadn't surfed to "armor" yet or I would have seen it...sorry...Disapprove [V]  There's a lot of weathering info out there,  I pride myself on weathering and have documented a T34/85 if you care to see it.  doog has some great tutorials...among others....

I like the schurzen, I expected they would ALL be there but just cut apart... you're approach worked GREAT!

I've finished my Char side project so I can focus on my A/O now. Tonight I was just touching up the roadwheels. If I have time tomorrow or Friday I'd like to start on the tracks. I work both nights so we'll see. Saturday is the model convention so I know I won't get any work done then. Whistling [:-^]
