Indeed it is looking good...with a lot more to come, I think, with the onset of fall-like temperatures (at least around my parts - maybe a bit longer for some of you).

Detailfreak - nice work! Thumbs Up [tup]

Jim - are you an armor builder/fan at all? Planning on attending AMPS East in Danbury at the end of the month? Great show...and a pretty decent contingent of FSM'ers going this year.

Sidure, that Panzers looking smashing. You might want to repaint the end of the gun, the consensus is there wouldn't be any darkening of it. I too have learned the hard way.

You're living up to your name detailfreak! Unusual subject.

Hi Dupes,

Has anyone done a Dragon Ausf H Smart Kit? I have one, plus an Atak Zim set that's looking to jump to the top of my work bench pile!Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

I'd have to finish my Jagdpanther first, but I think I'd like to get into this GB.Smile [:)]

Nate - I don't think anyone has finished an Ausf. H yet - but don't worry about it. Even if they did, we need another one! Consider yourself in the GB. Let us know when you start building!

Detailfreak - looks really good - but man is that a lot of pics...going to melt the phone lines running into the office here.

Excellent! Can't wait to get started! I've used the Atak zim for my recent Tiger I, and it fits perfect!Smile [:)] I'm looking forward to it.

Hi Guys,

Here's a couple of pics for my entry into this build. It's the new Dragon Pz.IV Ausf. H smart kit. I also have the Atak Zimmerit set designed for this kit.

I'm leaning towards building the first marking version in the kit which is for a tank from an "unidentified unit on the Eastern Front". This tank had extra T-34 track links added to the front hull, and turret for protection. There is a good frontal shot of this tank ( I believe) in the old Squadron Pz. IV in action book. I also could have sworn I saw another shot of that same tank somewhere else, but for the life of me I can't remember where!

Anyway, I am towards the end of my Jagdpanther build, and as soon as it's done, I can start concentrating on this guy. I'm really looking forward to this, as I haven't entered a group build in a LONG time. Have a great weekend!

Detailfreak: Excellent job on your Ausf D!Thumbs Up [tup] I have this kit too, but I'm a bit put off by the super kit roadwheel assemblies. I like the "smart kit" approach much better.....a lot less parts!Big Smile [:D]

with all the different pz. IV sprues packed in this one the funny thing is that those 4 piece roadwheels are not used.just the fiddly suspension assemblies.with this kit you must be sure to study the instructions and verify parts call-outs.have you ever seen a dog chase its tail, well thats the feeling this kit may cause.good luck to any who dare.those roadwheels would work well for a burned out pz.IV

wel ok.if your wondering how it is that i came upon so much time for modeling.LAY-OFF!,been working steady for 3+ years.two days of rain, boss says its to wet to do anything, take a few days off.boom ! no more job for you. that was way back on august 16th.so the upgunned ausf.D gets more attention.installed much of the onboard tools and equip.notice that the front add-on armor plate at the drivers position was upside down before.that happens when you binge model with barley pop as your companion.couple of turret shots.guess it was only one turret shot.fitted the smoke candle lid with the p.e. chains attached to check the fit.looks pretty good.i have to lift that lid back off and create a little wear on the muffler where those chains rub back and forth. thank you for looking fellow modelers, please give any comments you wish.My 2 cents [2c]

Detailfreak, it's coming out great! Smile [:)]Those PE chains really look good. I also like the rusted look of the muffler. I had to laugh at your comment concerning imbibing a barley drink, and modeling.Big Smile [:D] Been there, done that, and have the wrecked models to show for it!Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] Keep up the good work.Thumbs Up [tup]

Greg,

That thing looks saweeeet! I don't think there is a single I don't like about it. I too have been known to have a few during a build. It was hard training myself to stay the hell away from the bench after a few too many. I would find myself getting "inspired and trying things that required all my faculties and I would usually end up screwing things up.

Dupes- If you don't mind, I would like to switch to a Tamiya Pzkw IV Ausf . J I started on it the other day and will post WIP pics in this thread tonight or tomorrow.

If I touch another Dragon kit in the next few months I will probably end up shooting myself in the face with a bow and arrowAngry [:(!]

Regards,

Jeff

Finally got started. I am doing the Tamiya Pzkw. IV Ausf. J

Running gear is done and I decided to prime everything else but the road wheels on the sprue. I realize that this may involve a bit of touch up but I can handle it. I sprayed the black on the wheels a little whileago. They are currently in the booth drying.

It's not much but it's a start. Thanks for looking. As always, any comments or suggestions are welcome.

Regards,

Jeff

Looks good so far Jeff. I built Tamiya's Ausf. H not too long ago, and it is a sweet kit! About as close to perfect fit as they come.Smile [:)]

Good start, Jeff! While there aren't a ton of updates right now, I have a feeling there will be a LARGE fall push once the weather turns a bit more fall (and winter) like.

Back to the bench!

Got the majority of the assembly and primering done. I had trouble with the tracks being very tight the last time I attempted this kit so I am leaving the upper hull un-glued until I am done with them so I will have plenty of room to work. The turret schurzen was really the only fiddly part. Here she is so far.

Thanks for looking. As always, any comments or suggestions are welcome.

Jeff

Looking good Jeff. I like em when they are at that stage, kinda like a blank canvas thing.

Well, I am calling this one done kinda. Still want to weather the tracks some more but that will depend on how I will place it on a diorama. I really enjoyed this build despite some of the problems I had. I learnt a lot on this build and thanks for all the help guys. It came with 3 figures but the detail on them is poor so I may get some panzer crew later. I dont consider the figures as crew anyway.

To recap, iys the Italiere G kit, base coat is Tamiya TS-3 with MM enamels. 3 enamel washes and pastels for weathering. Dullcoat is testors.

Thanks for looking and if you see anything I need to correct let me know as its still a learning process. Oh yea, I had to hand paint the swastikas on the palm trees, I tried my best on them freehand.

looks good sidure,i especially like the way your camo turned out.one thing you will get nailed on is the inside surface of the hatches should be base color.other than that one grabbing me right away.the rest of it should fit right in with the others here.

Technically I believe that Detailfreak is right about the interior color of the hatches. That being said, I've seen an AWFUL lot of builds done by "top" modelers that have the ivory color on the inside of their doors.

To be quite honest - I prefer it. Breaks up the dark yellow a bit. Great build! Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]

Thanks detailfreak, I did not know that. Thought I had seen somewhere the they were painted a buff or white. I even went to the LHS and bought panzer interior buff just for this build. My bad. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks a lot Dupes. I appreciate you running this GB and for dragging me into the Armour world, I liked it a lot and look forward to doing another armour project.

ok,i have all of the small items attached, although i knocked the doors on the turret schurzen off twice ,i am going to call the uppgunned Ausf.D complete.you know how it goes, pop some photos and all the defiencies rear thier ugly heads.but i will address them when i find them.the Ausf.E is also on the verge of being complete.all that remains are the tools and stowage ,oh and some markings i suppose.the 10.5 cm Ausf.B variant is in the background as well as the brummbar.both of which are on the must finish list.and lastly who could resist a current family photo.regardless of how disfunctional they may seem.i am looking to get started on a hornisse, and the zwischen losung soon.the hornisse will probably be a nightmare as i'm going to try to use the photo-etch fighting compartment, as well as displaying it with the front panel removed for work.have'nt scored any AA guns on the pz.IV yet but we have lots of time.
