1,000 Roadwheels - 2009

Hey guys. Don't know if any of you guys remember my Tamiya Pz IV D and the MK tracks I was working on. I threw in the towel on the MK tracks awhile ago. The D has sat in it's box all painted and decaled up since. I thought that was a shame so I bought some Fruils for it today. Look for pictures later tonight.

There's some nice builds going on.

I am sorry that I have not have posted anything in a while. At the moment it looks like I will not be able too. Due to work I am currently short on funds to get my airbrush fixed. This is why I have not posted anything. So when I get it fixed I will post what I was working on in the Armour section. Sorry to not have the chance to finish the two I was working on Dupes. Everyone has prduced some fine work. Keep up the good work!!!!!!!

, ok, finaly got some work done on my AUsf H, The tracks have a first coat.. the hull will take a few more wash details, and a overcoats of sand/buff... Here are some updated pics..

Detailfreak, you live up to your name..lol. If your refering to flat panels that lay on the fenders( my kits instructgions don't say what they are) , they are there on both sides, the Right side one is hidden by the tool on the fender in the pic..

p38jl  Those flat panels under the air intakes are covers that on the real vehicle can be lifted up to cover the intakes.  The hinge are on the inside of the fender.  Where the fender joins the hull.

Moose, I thought that's what they were from the sources I was using, I couldn't remember and I had returned my referance books to their owner.

Detailfreak: it appears that these did not have those prefilters on them. I have a very old Brummbar from a Monogram kits long ago.. I'll go chk that one..

Well, I hope everyone had a great T-Day!!  I did, especially since T-Day can also mean "Tank Day"!!  I started working on the 1/72 Dragon F-1 yesterday and snapped a few pics before snapping up some turkey & gravy!

The goodies:

Nice hulls!

Wow!  One piece dual outside rubber roadwheels!  Same with the return rollers! 

and the separate inner wheel w/integrated hub!  Sure will make painting these a LOT easier!

Also much easier are the one piece bogies!

DML's much discused DS Tracks.  Nice detail!

Today I stopped by Brookhurst Hobbies in So. Cal and got this practically free!  (Buy one get one free sale!).  I'll start this tomorrow!  Hey dupes, please add this one to my build list!

Oh, and sorry about the poor quality of the pics.  Took the photos at my friends house and had to make do with basic kitchen incandescent lighting!!

Hey, on a rainy day the Ausf J got a paint job,, I tried a trick I saw in FSM a few years ago, I used Silly Putty to make the camo demarcation..

p38jl -- I'm not sure which is the more daunting, hard masking a tank or freehanding it! Looks like you've got this one tamed!

Some progress on the StuG at last:

Here she's fully masked to the last locator hole. The axles are masked, the locators for the standoff racks, and here and there are points where I'll simply file away paint to add on parts, the gunshield for example.

I painted the StuG and my 234/2 for the Achtraden GB simultaneously, in Tamiya XF-60, here they are completed:

Accessory parts are painted off the vehicle, so now it's onto the shade coat under the sponsons, the redbrown mottle and a fade coat on top, then into the oil filter stage.

Mike - Looking good!  BTW, what happened to the Italeri Jagdpanzer you were working on?  If its done what page can I find it on?

Buff -- finished? I wish! Unfortunately it got no further along, though I'd love to make a run and get it done. I'll be doing pretty good to have the StuG done, along with about five others by the end of the year, though the Tamiya Brumbar will be here next week, or should be, and I might take an OOB dive at it. The decals I ordered from Lucky Model for the Ausf. H/J are still pending processing three weeks on, so they're having difficulty filling the order, durnit...

Thanks for the compliments guys! IT actualy was pretty easy and not to time consuming. The results  seemed pretty good to  me to.. Marc said he's tried it to and has had good luck also.

An update of the Pz.IV:

Now it sits at the same stage as the Stug, awaiting paint.  I planned on both being done by today, but the weather hasn't been very cooperative lately. 

Bushi - sorry to hear about the airbrush. WOULD like to see how far you got...and second the vote for trying brush-painting!

Thunderbolt, Glamdring, Chris - great work! These guys going to get in under the deadline?

Ernest - adding a THIRD kit to finish by the end of the month? I'm slightly skeptical.

I've used the silly putty application many times for different camo schemes - it's definitely my "go to" method. Really easy to get good results once you've got the hang of it. A few examples:

Seems I have not been back to the GB for a long time.  Went back LOTS of page.  WOW.

Dupes reminded me this is still running and since I just stared a 1/72 Pz IV G, same one you got going buff, I said I would jump back in and get another stripe.

Not too deep into it yet.  I did not like the molded in pins on the tow pintles so I cut and drilled the pintles and bent new pins.  I dented up the muffler and scratched new smoke launcher from scrap PE brass and brass tube.

Gotta kkock this one out to be ready for Winter Warriors

Dupes  -- never fear, I'll get this StuG across the finish line in time! (Nice work on the silly putty, I must give it a go...)

Progress: I got the rotbraun mottle sprayed yesterday. But for one or two heavy spots to clean up, it's a pretty fair rendition of what was publushed in the mag back in '91. I'm very pleased too, as this is the finest/narrowest AB work I've ever done. The overspray is done very lightly and will darken up with washes.

There's a very light fade coat on the top surface. The oil filter weathering stage comes next, on this and my 234/2 more or less at once, then I can start to bring the last details together. The MG shield is the only bit left to mottle, as I couldn't get it right at the end of the session.

There is some nice work going on here. I'm not going to get mine done for before the deadline so I'm going to just get at least one done. The sturm is the farthest along so I will try to finish that one, then work on the Ost, and finally finish up with the E. I'll still post when I got something to show.

Looks like I'm going to have some short weeks towards the end of December, so I'm looking to crack open something else for the GB (in 1/35th this time) to squeeze in before the end of the month...don't think it will be the Tristar Ausf B, however. Most likely looking at one of my Tamiya chassis - an Ausf H, J, Wirbelwind or Mobelwagen. Or the Italeri F1.

Or, if it looks like I'll have significant time off, I may have to crack into the brand-spanking-new Dragon StuG IV I won from them on Facebook...

Building is basically done at this point.  The improvements made are new tow pintles pins, springs for the rear mud guards, new grab handles on the turret and replacing the molded in handle next to the spare road wheel rack, headlight wiring, smoke launchers and a new reflector on the rear mud guard.   Hopefully I will get the first coats of paint down tonight.  The extra armor on the front by the MG and vision port is not really an improvement.  The kit comes with a choice of parts and I used the wrong one so I had to make the armor. 

Wait, now you're doing 1/72 FIGS? Killing me, man.

Has this guy been out in the sun for a long time, too...?

Progress report, guys -- I'm into the wash weathering phase, using burnt umber and burnt sienna oils in enamel thinner. It's a pity you can't see all this subtle pinwashing from two feet back, and only the overall darkening really shows up. here she is contrasted with some parts that are not yet washed:

I need to pinwash the hatches on the engine deck, and start on the external fittings. So, the wash is ongoing, and hopefully I'll get into drybrushing today, as well as spraying the track segment for the bow rack.
