Neu- You're really cruising with your build!  Interesting idea on the canvas wheel well areas, I'm intrigued to hear how it works.  As for photos, here's an excellent site:

The 109 Lair

The "walkaround" section has a lot of great photos, and I recall seeing a few of the area you speak of.  Good luck! Approve [^]

Not much to report, added a few more cockpit details, including the fuel line. I think I'll end it there. I made a error not preparing the wheel well before gluing the two wing halves; thats what I get for rushing. I got the riviter in as far as possible and finished the rest with a needle. To simulate the well's cloth siding, I've soaked a thin strip of paper with brown paint and I'll attach it tomorrow... I'm hoping the water will dimple it a bit to give it a cloth like texture. Its the first time I've tried this, so I'll see how it works. Tomorrow I plan to fill in any gaps and prepare the landing gear, among other things.

By the way, does anybody have any photos of the area to the rear of the headrest? I've poked around for photos and I'm coming up empty.

Sure... though I've loaned my regular camera out for the week so I'm left with my cellphone for now. I kinda still want to do a faster build, my last three models have been all labour intensive (rescribing a Hase 1/72 A-10, for example.) Thankfully this G-14 is exactly what I want.

So here's the cockpit... It was detailed enough that I didn't want to mess around with it too much. I added a pipe along the bottom and made a simple harness from strips of paper painted tan... easy enough. I used the artist's pencil method for some colour... again nothing too strenuous. I felt relieved to be done the cockpit in the space of an evening. Sorry for the poor photo quality...

Tomorrow I'll tackle the general aircraft assembly.

Speaking of still building, got the decals down on my Monogram G-10. Flat coat tonight, some final assembly type stuff to do, then a bit of weathering. Nearing the finish line! Pics soon! Big Smile [:D]

Hi guys.

I know this is cutting it close but I'd like to enter into the build. I only joined the forums a couple of days ago, but I really liked the idea of the GB, so I wanted to get on this one quickly to start. I've got a Academy 1/72 G-14 ready to go, which I think I can get done in a week's time if I build it straight out of the box. Is there any possibility I can get an "extension" for a few extra days, so I can include it? (and get that shiny badge too?)

Thanks Aaron!  I have found that having a color video of the aircraft one is building is both a blessing AND a curse!  Sigh [sigh]

Here is my progress up to this afternoon. Decals on, but silvering on upper wng crosses and a few stencils needs to be removed by piercing and more MicroSet. The spinner swirl is undergoing its second dose of MiroSol, so no pics of that till the major wrinkling is removed....

Well I just finished putting on the decals. White 2 of JG 77. She is looking good now. Note to self- avoid subjects with spiral spinner markings in the future... LOL! I suspect that part will take several applications of Micro Sol to lay down properly. Next time, I will try painting instead... Pics will be posted later once I get rid of some silvering on a few decals...

I put quite a bit of time in on the G-10 the past few days, and have the majority of the paint sprayed.  The aircraft I am modelling is "White 3", a G-10 that crash landed in a field at the end of the war trying to get to the American lines instead of being captured by the Soviets.  One of the reasons I chose this one, was it's rather bland appearance (my favorite subjects!) and the very heavy mottling on the fuselage.  Here she is, painted up and waiting for a clear coat! Big Smile [:D]

I used handy tack to mask the wavy leading edge demarcation, and I like the way it works for this task-

More pics coming soon! Big Smile [:D]

Aaron, its me again, poking my nose in here. I just have to say that this 109 is a stunner. The hard edged camo, the wierd underside painting, the yellow spinner, everything. Your are definately a fine convert to 109's. Id love to know more about the pilot of this beast. Is there nothing on the destructions?

dupes- Glad to see yours back on the bench!  I started painting my G-10 today, finished up the 76 and tomorrow plan to start spraying the 74/75. Thumbs Up [tup]

Aaron- Shock [:O]  I thought you just started that one? Confused [%-)]  WELL DONE!!!  A fine looking 109 to be sure.  I really like the black/yellow spinner- bet it looks like a mad hornet coming at you.  I really like this one! Approve [^]

Stickpusher! That is a great camo job! You say you did that demarkation line by hand with no masking? Shock [:O] I have been a silly putty king on this harder edged night fighting G-10!

Fupes! Looking good! How is that halftrack coming along?  I have been using any chance I get to add weathering to mine as ideas hit me!  Really been trying to dust it up! Tone down the turtle wax finish the dull coat gave? Confused [%-)]

Well the 109 is drying and I don't know what else to do to it. Maybe mix and blend the exhaust staining some more. I had never noticed it until watching and learning from this GB!

Late night pics fighting the shadows and lighting! Haven't taken the time to set up a decent Photo booth yet. Been too busy building! Propeller [8-]Party [party]

The big thunderbolt drop tank is odd indeed! You have to hack it up according to the instructions and add a 2mm rod to hold it in place which I did.  If this scale is all correct then the ground clearance was very VERY close in real life!  Must have been very desparate times to use such an ad-hoc contraption. This plane is marked with 30 Victories all with British Roundrals. An Ace 6 times over.  Wish there was more history given.

Well my bench has been a busy place this last week. I'll take a last look in the daylight but I think we can call her done! Thumbs Up [tup]

Thanks for letting me play in such a great GB! Bow [bow]

Bit of a refresher pic - this is the Monogram G-10...the one that had some color "issues". Wink [;)] She's a bit farther along than this (i.e., decaling started), but I don't have any updated photos yet.

Weather here looks pretty lousy for the weekend so I foresee a LOT of bench time in the next few days. Cool [8D]

Aaron- Are you really decalling already?  EGADS MAN, don't you ever sleep? Shock [:O]  Those decals sound a fright, but the photos look like you've handled it well.  Well done that man! Approve [^]

Carlos- I like the shade, lloks just like the photos of it I have seen.  On my research of White 3, the Eagle Editions decals call for RLM 76 on the fuse but the color period photos and video to me look like the RLM 84 on the fuselage.  I finished getting her ready for paint tonight, so soon I will have to decide which color to go with. Thumbs Up [tup]

LOL, good one SC!  Looks like I'll be sending him the next 109. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

I thought I had my G-10 all ready for paint last night, but then I realized I needed to remove the external trim tabs on the rudder.  I removed them this morning, and shot some primer on.  Just need to fill a few small tiny holes and she's ready for the paint shop! Big Smile [:D]

Dupes glad to see you here building looking foward to seeing some pics. Nice way to score points with Frank too by mentioning a Corsair build!

Stikpusher she's looking great. Love the camo pattern and colors.

Thanks Frank- Good eye on the RLM 84. One LHS owner suggested RAF Sky and I went with Humbrol's shade of that color for the 84. Doing that leading edge was something of a bear freehand... I need to invest in some silly putty... LOL!

Getting my freak on? Last person who said that to me was a pimp outside a seedy motel in Dallas?  Shock [:O]

Well Thank ya everyone for the nice comments... even Guy! Laugh [(-D]

I was planning on being like done by now but I believe I have found the achillies heel of this kit!

The decals are really kinda a pain!  I mean nasty fellows! Where the smaller ones are managable the large ones want to fold under themselves while still on the backing!

They turn loose from the backing after just a quick dip in water really fast and almost too easy but they will fold and are very thin. Painful to use and hard not to destroy with no extras and no second chances! Banged Head [banghead]Grumpy [|(]

Really have to do one at a time and let it dry before moving on as they are pretty intense and time consuming.  Almost have to really get them to lay flat some where close. I have yet to smoothly slide one off in place without it folding over somewhere. A corner or something then they are buggers to get straight again!  Slow and steady is the only way with water and dot brushes!   Decals like that spinner whirly doo dad!  very nasty! It came already as 4 separate decal pieces which eases placement better than attempting one giant curly snake but still each one was a battle. This took all day!

Thats all the pieces and what's left to do. Not a whole lot. I would have taken different angles but I am not touchin it again until those nasty decals dry.  Good thing is they are too thin to silver I think. They really act like the were dipped in pure solveset to get them off the backing. They are that mushy. I rubbed out the air bubbles repeatedly with a brand new clean soft paintbrush. Got the wrinkles out. Lotsa work! Banged Head [banghead]

Has anyone else had issues with the Hasegawa decals like this? They dont disintigrate but fold under way to easy and melt and disolve like the setting solution is added right in!  Maybe I need to check my water for acid rain?

Gotta go to bed. Early day tomorrow! Good Night all! Bow [bow]
