Firstly an admission of errors. I thought when I had started this that the 109 had surrended to a field (Falconara in Northern Italy) operated by the 15th airforce but have since found this:-
"Monday, 16 April 1945
USAAF Chronology: MTO Tactical Operations (12th AF): In Italy, during the night
of 15/16 Apr, A-20s and A-26s hit Po River crossings, the towns of Vignola, Zoeca, and
Sassuolo, and several targets of opportunity in the Po Valley; during the day medium
bombers bomb bridges on the Reno River near Bologna, blast troop reserve areas SE of
Portomaggiore on the British Eighth Army front, and attack troop concentrations S of
Portomaggiore; fighters and fighter-bombers concentrate most of their effort on close
support targets in the US Fifth Army battle area S and SW of Bologna.
445th BS War Diary: Much excitement created on the line today. A Messerschmitt 109
landed at base. No one observed it en route because it circled the field and dropped right
in. The pilot was a Yugoslavian serving in the Luftwaffe. Two theories are advanced;
(1) that he was lost and low on fuel, (2) that he just "threw in the towel". Perhaps reason
No. 2 is more likely. "
and further more although all my reference books give this aircraft as a G-10 newer sources refer to it as a G-14AS, But what the heck to late to worry now.
The last lot of finished figures have been added to the dio` and the last batch (for this session at least) have been started.

and at last it`s starting to look a little busy. The next batch of figures will include the people standing near the officer as shown below and at least two of them are in full gear with parachute harness and I think these are going to be the hardest conversions so far.

so wish me luck. The figure on far right is next up for alteration and has his appointment with Dr Dremel for drastic plastic surgery. Onwards and outwards.
All comms and crits welcomed,

I added the spiral decal last night, and painted the prop blades.  The all-white spinner in the photo is for the G-6 I am building for the Regia Aeronautica GB.  Hope to have the spinner all assembled in the next few days! Big Smile [:D]

Frank, nice progress on the G10.

I've finally broken the G10 out of the boz and sawn the engine cowling off to accept the MDC replacement which converts the Hasa G10 into a G14AS.

I'll post some pics when I get a chance, however the fit of the resin part to the Hasa fuselage is so so, requiring a number of shims, and is about 1mm too shallow where the cowlings meets the lower wing.

Apologies for being off air for the last few months, work has been extremely busy, not least because of a round ot outsourcing and redundancies. None of these affect me directly but I've only just found that out.

I've put the G-10 up on her gear for the first time, checking gear alignment and making certain all is well with the bevels I filed on the bottom of the tires.  So far, so good! Thumbs Up [tup]

Some more figures done

Considering the three walking figs started out like the ones below I`m quite happy with the results, and the MP is a variation of the Patton figure from the Generals set.

Just six more to go and that definitely it! Really bored with figures.

W&T, your diorama looks quite nice to my eye, but I know it is in how you see it in your minds eye that you are trying to fulfil. Your figure conversions and painting are very impressive.

I have made some more progress on my K. I am pretty much at the point of just needing to paint all the add on parts:landing gear, pitot, canopy framing, prop/spinner etc. over the next while and then will be ready for finishing...

Hey sfcmac, Thanks for the kind words, the trouble with 1:48 is that no ones decided on a standard size for figures yet. When I started this all I had in the stash was a load of Tamiya figures and by using them I unwittingly made a rod for my own back. Let me illustrate, in the photo are figures from Prieser ICM and an old white metal figure from the Aircam airwar range.

As you can see they all fit nicely into an acceptable scale allowing for the variety in human shapes. But add a Tamiya figure into the mix and the size difference in Tamiya 1:48 scale is obviously apparent.

Now I know that people do come in a variety of packing shapes/sizes but to my eye the Tamiya figures look just to small when mixed with other ranges, but are useful, when making a child or teenager conversion with the larger same scale figures. Also when measured the figure comes out at 1 & 10/48ths of an inch giving him a scale height of 4` 10" inches.

Sorry rant over and for going off topic, and if I was really pressed, I must admit to a perverse enjoyment of converting them allbeit time consuming.

Well I must say W & Things that I have a lot of respect for the difficulty and time it takes to recreate something like that from a photo!  Then you have to fill in the blanks for the stuff you can't see in the pics.  It looks  amazing! Your figures you have reworked are astounding to me!  I am trying something similar in 1/35 and can't imagine the challenges in 1/48!   Very fine work!

CAG!!!!!  Your a 109 specialist as far as I can tell!  White 44 looks groovey!

Stikpusher isn't that funny how light type actually can change the color the camera see"s I have some of those energy saver bulbs and they really mess it up.  Looks like a true to form camo job to me though!

Fupes!!!!! That is the oddest Bf 251 Sfz 109 halftrack fighter hybrid I have ever seen!  I like how your playing with the colors to get the look you want.  Frank had a similar experience if I recall.

Hi Tango 1 -- many thanks for the tip! I'll add 5% white (1 drop in 20), how does that sound? It'll be good to get this one moving after so long. The QB exhausts haven't arrived yet, *&^$ it!

Hi guys,

The saga of the paints continues apace... It turns out I had a bottle of MM RLM-76 in the back of my draw for years and it looks usable, and at the hobby shop a week or two back I found an RLM-74, but 75 has so far eluded me, as have attempts to get in touch with interstate shops that might mail me the paint. Today I did a search on paint comparison charts and found one that listed Humbrol 106 as an equivalent to RLM-75. I have this one in stock, so in essence I have all the shades I need to finally do the K-4.

What do the experten here think? Is Humbrol 106 close enough to pass muster? There's certainly no hint of violet about it to create a 'grauviolet,' but others call it 'mittelgrau' too, so maybe violet isn't called for. If I hang on for a bottle of Model Master I might never build this plane, and that is sooo frustrating!

LuckyModel have shipped the Quickboost exhausts at last too, they should be here next week.

Cheers, guys,

Mike/TB379

EDIT: I looked at the three shades together and they didn't match my mental image of this plane, so I took another look at Stan's K-4 up on page 4, and of course it's not RLM-74 gray, it's RLM-83 green. So I looked at my RLM greens and it looks like they're of the vintage where MM had the numbers kicked. If I've got this right, RLM-83 should be the darker shade? If Humbrol 106 will sub for RLM-75, I have the paints in hand now to do the beast. QB exhausts due next week, and the Eduard masks came in ages back. I have Ezy-Line to do the antenna wire, and might give wire brakelines a shot.

Hello,

I am by no means an expert, but I know my humbrol colours rather well. H106 is not an exact match but its as close as you'll get without buying an exact match. (If you add a small blob of white you'll nail it.) Wink [;)]

Hope this helps.Smile [:)]

Hoyhoy`Al,

Like Paddington Bear I`ve been at a bit of a loose end regards modelling, so like life I`ve dived back in on something I`m not to keen on ...figures.
I bought a box of the Tamiya generals simply because they wer`nt attacking or killin` anyfink and like all good ociffers standing still waiting for the sarg`nts to win the war. The top pic is how they come and the lower how they ended up.

As you can see not much happened to Eisenhower but Pattons joined the Air Force and is great buddies with MacArthur. Poor old Monty`s in a bit of a sulk cos` he`s gone from Field Marshal to grease monkey. Since taking these pix painting has started and the one below finished since I last showed you him. Quite pleased with fashion restyle from German infantryman to USAAF bomber crew.

Oh well only about another 10 or so to go, must do some of the lower ranks seen milling around the front of the plane like in the photo.

Frank now you are just teasing me! No paint or blades? I do love the engraved rivets and screws though. I guess I will have to wait for the spiral picsSad [:(]

Stikpusher I still have mine. The weather was so nice yesterday I took it out a gave it a good work out making sure to chirp the tires every time I shifted! Having open exhaust and a loud stereo also add to the fun.

I had a Teal 91 Camaro also Soulcrusher... for many years! I know exactly what you mean. I am still getting used to the technical side of digital photography. But I was quite familiar with all the different variations of hue with film due to film type, filters, etc. Pretty amazing stuff color is.

Have no fear...

Not much, but this is all I have so far!  I used my jeweler's beading tool set, and a custom tool to make the rivets and screws on the spinner.  I also thinned the openings to better represent the thin sheet metal of the spinner.  I haven't painted it yet, but I used some Pro Modeller Wash to accent the detail.

The colors look right to me stikpusher. It had to have been the lighting that was on the model in the first pics. Having dabbled in photography when i was younger I learned alot about how different types of light sources reflect some colors more than others. I have a 91 Camaro that still has its factory original Teal paint. In the daytime the car is clearly a Teal color but in very low light like at dusk the car is a green color. It is pretty cool how the light can shift a color so much.

Ok, I got the topside colors sprayed today. MM RLM81 and RLM82. Here are a few pics. I took some in direct sunlight, and some under shade with a flash. Just to give an idea of color shift.

Plus one of the bottom RLM76 in direct sulight w/no flash to give a btter idea of the color.

Mike- Sounds a little confusing there on those paints!  I have never used Humbrol enamels and don't use MM enamels, so I am unsure about those callouts.  What about spraying a little of each on a piece of scrap styrnen and showing that, so we can see the actual colors?

John- Of course we missed you!  Glad to see you're back, now get building there Mister! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Tango, she is starting to look real good there!

well today I made some progress. I hollowed out the ends of my exhaust stacks and sprayed  on a coat of RLM 84 on the fuselage sides. As there was no supposed standard for this color, it was suggested I try using RAF Sky. I did and am pleased with the results. Topside camo colors to follow this weekend.
