Thanks for the well-wishes fellas...my Mom actually had a stroke last Tuesday. Pretty bad one as it turns out, still not talking, and has a tough time with a lot of motor control. Hoping she can find a way to start getting everything back, and eventually get herself somewhere close to normal.

As a result, my bench time has been very limited, but plugging away here and there. Update sometime soon. Approve [^]

Frank, Karl,

thanks!  I still need to do a little more work to that blasted top seam, after its re-spray I saw more gaps.Shock [:O]

So its out with the filler again! I'm hoping to get the paint on again tonight so I can start with the rest of the build tomorrow. Hopefully, it will be right this time.....................Banged Head [banghead]

Karl- IIRC, G-14's were both new builds and converted airframes.

From here:

"The number of G-14s built in total is unknown, an estimated about 3-4000 examples, the exact number being difficult to tell because of the many converted/repaired airframes."

This was the only info I could find on the net, and while not 100% conclusive IMO, sounds reasonable as this seemed to be Luftwaffe SOP at the time.  HTH! Thumbs Up [tup]

Hi Everyone!Smile [:)]

I've finally sourced some RLM 76 for my nightfighter, got the paint on today, its a very subtle shade and I'm happy with it as sealing and weathering should add some depth to it. I still need to do a little cleanup here and there, but at long last I'm moving forward with this thing!

No photo updates from me today...haven't been on the forums all week, my Mom is in the hospital. Have been trying to squeeze a bit of modeling in here and there - got a few decals on. Hopefully this weekend I'll have a few spare hours to bang the majority of this guy out.

*Didn't see your guys' replies until after I had already laid down some markings - that color is going to have to stay like it is. Dang. Disapprove [V]

Dupes I have to agree with Frank on this one too. You can still see to much of the bright green through the OD. Mabye another light pass will do the trick.

So MM transposed those two colors? Do you think they know about it, and have since fixed the error? Sadly, I have their RLM 82 "in stock" but didn't read this post until after I had read Frank's OD Overspray suggestion - which is what I went with. Next time! Here are the before and afters:

RLM 82 (ooops!)

dupes- I used the Tamiya color closest to what was recommended at IPMS Stockholm.  Apparently, they got their chart mixed up too as it reflects the incorrect callouts like MM! Shock [:O]

Can you believe it?  This makes post #1000. Cool [8D]

Very good point SC. As with MM the names on the bottles are correct but those two numbers were not. I hear that the problem with MM has been corrected but you may still find the wrong numbers on some store shelves. Its also nice to have a colour chart to match your stock so when something looks weird you can also compare the colour of the bottle with the charts. Thats how I found my mistake and someone pointed out the MM mistake for me on this GB.

I use the MM acrylics for all of my Luftwaffe builds because my hobby store is well stocked with them and they have a complete line of all of the RLM colors. I think I have avoided the RLM number mix up because I always pick the jars out by name not the RLM numbers. I have been building Luftwaffe aircraft for so long I have learned all of the color names in German as they are written on the jars of paint. Its not that hard to learn. It also helped that one of my best freinds growing up spoke fluent German so I picked up alot of words over the years. I never use the number desinations always the color names.

Hey Dupes, KJ is correct. MM did transpose the RLM numbers of 82 and 83. I caught the same mistake on my build earlier. A lot of the kit manufactors also went along with the mistake in their colour callouts. You should be using MM 82 for that scheme which is more of an olive drab tint. The 83 you are using is for late war 262's and AR234's.

Dupes, if memory serves, and it frequently doesn't, a number of paint manufacturers transposed 82 & 83.

Looks like the 83 you have is actually supposed to be Helle Grun light green.

This is Gunze's rendition of 82.

Your's looks very bright.Cool [8D]

83 should be a fairly dark olive green.

Just my My 2 cents [2c]

Question?

Were 109 G-14s new build or refurbs like the G-10s?

Bob - I know, I know, I really should prime stuff...I'm just too lazy. Whistling [:-^]

Frank - wow! What a difference! Who's 83 did you start out with? Looks about equally bright to the MM stuff I used. The OD certainly did tone it down to a more respectable shade!

Wow. Those colors aren't even CLOSE! Shock [:O] So much for going with "official" RLM matches to ensure accuracy... Boohoo [BH]

Dupes-I use MM acrylics and have found that along with a good cleaning that a coat of Tamiya primer (rattle can) works wonders.

Here are some before and after photos if they help showing the difficulty I had with the 83.

Before, as called out:

After, using Tamiya XF61 Olive drab to tone it down:

And after the weathering which helped tone it down even more:

Not sure if that helps, but thought I would share anyway. Smile [:)]

That may be the way to go, Lufty - thin the 75 waaaaaay down and try to dull it a bit. Let me throw a test shot down onto some scrap styrene and see what it looks like. Thumbs Up [tup]

Hey man, I ressemble those remarks LOL.

Fupesy, looking cool so far and green Whistling [:-^].  I dont know about the colour myself, maybe id give it a mist of the grey to dull it a touch. Ive used Xtracrylics in the past and i like the colour match they give. Be strong Lycra man, the truth is out there.

Good to see you making some progress there Dupes. The masking looks good. The 83 is definetly to light. I also have some eye trouble with greens browns and reds but I usally never have a problem matching colors. They appear different in my eyes than others but I have learned to make the adjustments and I have become pretty good at comparing colors to ensure my colors are not off. As far as having a problem with pulling up paint it sound like the paint is just not adhearing to the model very good. I like to give my models a good wipe down with some alcohol on a lint free towel to remove any skin oils from the model being handled during constructing. Since I have started doing this I have not pulled up one speck of paint while masking. Here is a pick of my G-14 with the nose painted in RLM 83. This is more of the shade it should be. Keep posting pics. can't wait to see more.

If not, I can always try to tone it down a bit during the weathering process - was thinking about hitting this guy with the "oil dot" treatment I always abuse my armor with. Wink [;)]
