Ive been fiddling with the resin sight and the dash panel on this aries set and it comes out fairly well. Im calling it done because my eyes hurt.

Heres the dash, the yellow instrument on the far left came from an old decal sheet from a P40,

and with the sight attached.

Do you like the little lens thingy that sits on top of the sight, between the front and the reflectors? That came from 'Little cars' in the uk and is the perfect size.

Now to wedge all this into the pit.

Hi Phoenix,

I've been studying your buildup of Yellow 4 and I'd like to ask about the prop. The blades look RLM 70, but is it an optical illusion that the spinner looks black? The kit instructions say schwartzgrun for both, but I don't like to trust the instructions too far.

Guy I must agree with Karl that I am grievously disappointed in your effarts to pass off the real restored K IP as your work. That is 1/48?  Bah! I say!  Bah humbug! Even!

 Yeah Yeah I know Excellent work there chum! Why don't you try to use a fiber optic lighting set to give a reticle.  Maybe those little lights .  I wonder if you could rig up something? Maybe in 1/32.  I must say the little light lens looks perfect. I saw an article where those stuffed animal toy google eyes were bought at a craft store and used for lenses for headlights and smart bomb/ missile sensor covers as well. Very keen idea. Almost scary how your mind works!

Well back to my meager efforts!

Frank was way off on the temp. It dropped down to like 47 degrees and breezy outside. I had all the windows open and the heat came on keeping the room at 67. Yep open windows and heat on! Duh!  Fixed that now! Dunce [D)]

I think that's pretty much it.  I will throw out that IRT the hatches on the starboard cowling, just removing the upper one may not be 100% accurate.  I have seen some portrayals with the hatch just a little bit higher.  I went with just removing the upper one because I seriously suck at scribing and I wasn't 100% sure, so when in doubt go with the easier option!

Steve  nice little production line you have going there. I can't wait to see them all lined up and done.

Guy that is one awesome intrument panel. I fully expect the needles to work on those gauges and the aftificial horizon to roll around. That gun sight is simply amazing! No wonder your eyes are crossed whenever you post a pic of yourself!

Aaron LMAO AGIAN! Serioulsy dude you are of the scale. At least you raided Guys stash instead of mine. I do'nt no about the rest of the guys hear but I think that boys cheese done slid of his cracker.

Now down to buisness. HELP! I really need some reference help on the camo pattern on my K-4. All of my refernce books pertain to the A-E series and I bought the kit off of eBay and the instructions were missing! The only thing I have to go by is the color plate that came with the kit and it is not very clear. The upper camo colors are listed as RLM 81 Brown-Violet and RLM 83 Dark Green. Here is a pic of the plate i am trying to work with. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

SC, I'm no expert, but Jagdwaffe Volume 5 Section 3 has a profile of a JG 77 machine in 75/63 with 76 undersides, however the tail from the front of the horizontal stabiliser back is 81/83, a feature common to mane late war G-10/14s and Ks.

Also many of these late war machines had an application of 'Sky' over the sides of the fuselage, just to add to the confusion.

 Well SC of Micheal? I can't find anything on red 23? Banged Head [banghead] Those fujimites had to ref it from somewhere!  Got some other color plates but not with that violet brown color. Hopefully somebody has more ideas than I? Shouldn't be too hard....

John I dunno what to say? Maybe try drinking some Orange juice and doing shots? Bottled Water? Or you could wear one of those full face motorcycle helmets! That would work!

Thanks for the admitance, and the scales 1:48.

Done a bit since last post, some of the figures were ready just needing painting and have converted some more. Also I got a ICM kit of the USAAF figures which helps. At the back of the dio are some of the figures I`m working on.

Some during painting:-

ICM pilot and converted Tamiya groundcrew.

And some in conversion mode:-

from the Tamiya german infantry on manouveres kit.

It will be nice to see this finally done, but a looonng ways to go.

Quick update, got all three painted the 76. Not my best session but its getting there. I will have to go back over some spots and I forgot that one of them is all over 76 so I have to finish that one anyway. I am having some conflicting info on the top colours so I may have some questions soon.

Had a big session on the paint bench tonight and the three of them are now taking their own personality so I will start showing them individually now. First is the G-10 from III JG/1. Overall in RLM 76. This one will be done first I think. Sorry for the blurry pic

Next is the G-10 from JG/300. Finish will be 74/75/76. Always wanted to do in these colours.

The last one is a G-10 of II.JG/27. It will be in 81/82/76. I did the RLM 81 tonight and had a hard time with the paint. It came out like cough syrup. Lots of extra mixing to get it to cover.

I did them all free hand and had a lot of fun with that. I will have some touchups to do but am going to wait for the second colours. One last pic of the three together.

Thanks for looking, all comments welcome. Now I have to wait for the drying.

Thanks Troy. I have never made a 109 past the F model and always wanted to do the 74/75/76. I am doing them freehand as that is what I see from ref pics especially on the fuselage. One question on the wings, is the camo pattern sharp edges or are they feathered a bit. I was thinking of AB it freehand. So whats the word on that.

Steve- LLoking very good there on all three!  As for the camo lines on the wings, I don't know exactly but have often seen it depicted with a soft yet defined edge.  If it were me, I would use paper masks elevated off of the surface with rolls of tape.

I've been awol for a  bit trying to finish up the pair of 'Cobras.  Went back a bunch of pages to see whats' what.  Wowzer that's nice stuff. Everything looks great.  

Guy that gunsight looks reaaly sweet.

Steve a question for you since you are working and 3 at once. Do you find that you have one favortie in the bunch that you do just that tiny bit extra for?  I find that to be true for the 2 P-39's I am doing.  There is 1 that always gets the 1st attention when it gets to the next step.  The parts are made to fit jst a bit better while #2 is more of a that's close enough attitude. I am still working at the #2 plane but I did notice it is not getting the same attention.

I can't say for sure about those lines, Steve. I agree with Frank that they look just a tad soft but I was not going to be bothered with the masking. I free handed the wings, just made the lines as tight as I could. The fuse I taped. The colors are close enough that they kind of blend themselves anyway.

I wonder what happened to everyone. NOt much progress posted yesterday but for Steve for kickin it in!

Good question about the camo though. i was actually going to post on the same subject ish. The wings i was going to go, like Frank said, with a precut template. Thats how they werte done in the factorys i believe. As for the fuse, on my eagle cal sheet it looks fairly hard edged. And looking at a few on Hyperscale, a couple there were done with masking tape. So the edges would be very hard edged. Frank What did you do on yours for the fuselage?

I went back and looked at Franks and HK's builds to get a feel for the edges. Think I will go with a soft mask job on the wings and sharp on the fuselage. There will be some motteling that will blend the sides anyway.

On the subject of a favourite of the three. I started with one and found I could detail it better so the other two benifited from the lessons learnt from the first plus some tips I got from you guy's. I do favour the 74/75/76 scheme asI am looking forward to having one in those colours and I do favour it. Ten there is the overall 76 scheme and I have never seen one like that so that is different, I still feel the urge to spash a little colour on it though. Anybody got info on the overall 76 aircraft of JG/1.

I have a Fujimi G-6 and K-4 comming. I have decals for a G-10 I'm thinking of using. How hard would it be to convert one of these two kits to a G-10? In a nutshell? An easy to crack nutshell?

 Driving myself bonkers as well. HK what I would do is not attempt to convert them. Kinda complicated although the K-4 looks like a G-10 at first blush. The G-6 engine and armament are really to diff to do that without some work. A new Nose extc. What I would do if it were me was to build them as a G-6 and K-4. The G-10 decals I would use for the Monogram Revell. Kits. You can still find them really cheap (under $10) and they are a good G-10 they really are if your not into posing the flaps. Even then cutting out flaps is easier than a conversion.

 If you must the K-4 to a G-10  would be the most convincing.

Once I get a hand full of kits I'll decide what to build next so it can be added to the front page.

That is some nice work there Steve. That is a tough question about the hard edge soft edge camo. I have not seen any definitive posts on the subject. I have done all of my late war Luftwaffe builds with soft edge camo. I do not know if it is correct but it looks right to my eyes so that is what I have been sticking with. I am in the process of painting my K-4 and according to what research i was able to do it looks like a mix of both. Some areas like the cowl look like the end of the engine access panels are where the camo breaks as a hard edge but the camo break after the cockpit looks like a soft edge. Go figure!?
