Bf-109: Reich Defender GB The End

Ok put number two in the books She is all done. Pegasus 1/48 Me 109 G-6. I built it mostly OOB. I added a pilot tube and scrounged a antenna mast balance weights and DF loop antenna base. The actual antenne was removed from this particualr aircraft. The markings White 1 are Erich Hartman's plane. 4/JG52 Budoars Hungary Nov 44.

A tad more progress on my K. I sanded down the wing and stabilizer joints and attached the supercharger intake and overwing wheel bulges.

Once I get the centerline rack attached, painting will begin...

Thanks for the kinnd words fella's, I have put the fuselge and the wing together, I did find a slight step at the wing root but I filled them as the glue was drying-I think I've got away with it.

My 109 is a night fighter and has guards around the exhaust stubs, the kit does not provide them and I was wondering if anyone here had tackled this task before-it would be noce to pick up any tips.

Darren the cockpit looks spot on to me. Those are some great markings in that kit. Looking foward to seeing more.

Frank no spinner pics yet! Me and Aaron are waiting with baited breath. It would make a nice Valentine's day present.

Ah the CAG has sailed off the end of the map it seems to parts unknown. Frank what have you done? 

 Darren your G-10 pit looks the bomb!  Can't wait until you start painting on it!

Good to hear I'm heading in the right direction with this one. I have been tinkering with the fuselage and wings this afternoon and I'm really enjoying this build-I've ordered some RLM76 paint and am looking forward to getting the airbrush cranked up for this one!

Darren- Great to see your WIP pics!  Your office looks like you have done this many times, first one you say?  Not sure if I believe you...   Looking forward to seeing how you like that kit, the basic moldings are well represented here.

Good morning gentlemen. 

I am reporting for duty in this group build with my very first ever 109 model.

I say!.........its nothing like the Spitfires I'm used to! Who talked me into this anyway?

1/48 Hasegawa Bf109-G10 "NJG-11" I will be building this very interesting bird straight from the box, in the markings of "White 44" My only additions will be some spare P/E to the office.

Mike the gear are not glued yet. The Pegasus kit has the gear and doors moulded in one big piece. Not great looking but they are so strong I used them to hold the model up when painting. They definetly need to be pushed foward before being glued. Added all of the fiddly bits and then a dullcoat tonight.

SC- Nice!  Looks like that new airbrush is paying dividends already.  A bit of unsolicited advice, the landing gear looks like they need a little rake, you might want to kick them out forward a bit.

Dupes- Great choice on the markings, have not seen that one built before.

Looks better than the moulded in detail Bob. It is tought to detail the tiny cockpit of a 109. Looks like you have a good start. I was in a decal mood tonight so I out the 109 on the bench and added all of the decals. I used the Pegasus decals and I was pleasantly surprised. All of the decals were very easy to slide of the paper and on the model. They were also very easy to position without any folding or tearing. Lastly they reacted quicky to setting solution and snugged down perfectly. Hard to believe for a kit I payed $11.00 dollars for. Here are a couple of pics. I still have to make the pilot tube and dig up the DF loop antenne base remove the loop as the radio was removed from this aircraft for some reason and then find a stub antenna in the stash for the canopy.

SC-I agree.  I just need to paint the plastic kit IP and glue the IP to the floor and then the floor to the fuselage. Then I'll attached the PE IP to the kit part. Again, with the canopy closed, the IP won't be that noticable....but I'll know! 

Sometimes I wonder if the PE engineers (wouldn't that be a fun job) at Eduard have the actual kit in front of them when they design & test fit some of the components.  Of course, it could just be 'user error' in on my part.....

Edit-I had a change in schedule this pm so I had time to take & post the 'Before & After'.  The 'After' really doesn't look as bad in 1:1 scale-the magnifying effect of Photobucket always makes me wince...

I'm thinking a little light grey dry brush should help on the upper fuselage section.

Bob - I wanted to try my kit decals (it's a good looking scheme!) but they're beyond repair, I think. Bummer.

I've been on a Monogram TEAR lately...price wise, they're soooo much cheaper than a lot of the other available options - if there IS another available option! I have a mini-squadron of F-5's, F-20's, and F-100's just dying to be built (amongst a pile of other century series a/c). If only there were more time in a day!

Steve I appreciate the complement. I was going to put the decals on last night but I got lazy. Hopefully tonight I will get my butt in gear. I want to see how she looks witht he decals too.

Bob it sounds like a better idea to glue that photoetch to the plastic one. It should be much easier to attach.

Dupes-yep...one and the same.  I'm going to go with the kit decals  and the solid RLM 76 scheme though.  The kit looks like it will go together well, but I've had a couple of issues with the PE-not sure about the fit of the IP.  According to the Eduard instructions, it should insert by itself.  However, I am going to sand down the kit IP and use that as a mounting surface.  Also, the lap belts are difficult to bent.  I should have either bent first and then painted or annealed the fret of PE and then proceeded.  One other note, I'm afraid of the fit of the fuselage-there are a minimum number of locating holes/pins and a test fit makes me think that there is going to be some serious filling and sanding in my future.  All that said, I will pick up another one for the stash-this kit will build a good looking late 109 for under $15.- retail with no extras.

Quick pick of the pre-game status of my Revell G-10:

Doing the "Black 8" scheme shown on the bottom of the decal sheet I snagged. 

  Nice work SC & Frank.  Looking forward to more progress pics.

The interior is almost complete on the Revell/Monogram G10.  Not sure if the addition of the PE & extras was worth it, but it was a good learning experience.  Will post pics in the next day or two.

SC, very nice camo and motteling. I like the way its turning out and it looks spot on. Decals will set it off. Cant wait to see that.

Finally got an acceptable set of replacement decals for the faded/cracked kit versions. Accidentally got a PE set, resin wheels, and resin seat to go with them...

Should be able to get started on this Revell monster soon!

OK, have a few pics to share!  The cowl insert has been installed and faired in.  I rescribed a tiny line along the joint as my reference photos show a faint line there.  Shot some primer on it tonight, and looks pretty good.  Just need to rescribe a little bit of the line on the port side.  The radiator flaps are painted, and ready to be installed.  The wing received some primer, and now I need to fix a couple of tiny areas then it's ready to be glued on.  Sorry, no spinner pics yet.
