Yes, I really like the simple paint scheme on White 44, I think its unusual for a '109. I hope I can do the kit justice, with a one colour paint job, I cannot go too wrong!Wink [;)]

Does anyone have these decals in 1/48 that they don't have plans to use?  I would buy the sheet but for 1 set of markings... I have so many 109 sheets but not that one.  It Eagle Cal #36.  I have dozen to offer in trade. E's, F's G's, K's... Europe, desert, Battle of Britain etc.

I think I will probably go with Black 15. I like the looks of it.

Tango 1, are you going to make that G-10 into the high-altitude paint job of White 44?

Welcome aboard Darren!  You picked a gem of a kit for your first 109. Thumbs Up [tup]

Warhammer25- I like that sheet, especially Black 15.  John's right, it does look like mountains on the side!  5800 is my second choice, very unusual camo on that bird.

The side of Black 15 looks like mountains.  I like that one.  The picture of 5800 doesn't show the NMF very well.

I am thinking I am going to get some decals for my K-4:

But I can't decide which on to do. I like Black 15 and the one on the bottom, No. 5800. No. 5800 has a NMF underside which I thought was pretty cool. What do you guys think?

Hello Chaps!!

I've not built a bandit before so I thought I'd start with this:

From what I hear its a decent kit and I'm looking forward to getting stuck into it, however its my first 109, so be gentle with me!

Stan -- what a FANTASTIC piece of work! If that's Hasegawa'a K-4 more or less out of the box, I'll be more than delighted. I'll be preening if I can get mine into the ballpark with yours!

That said, I ordered up some stuff today, Express Masks for her and a sheet of K-4s from Eagle Strike on special at Squadron for comparison. I think I'll end up with more than one of these birds. Heck, I got a mixed sheet of Emils and Gustavs too. And threw in some post-war Spits for the hell of it...

Well, all I need is some Schwartzgrau and I can get to work!

Cheers,

Mike/TB379

Your wish is my command.  I am using the Ministry of Small Aircraft decals and the eyes are a reddish brown or brownish red.

Looks like we've generated a lot of interest for this GB, should be excellent, however....

Thunderbolt that is one of the few I used the kit marking for Yellow 4 (Strebel, II/JG 3. The decals go down pretty good. yellow 4 is one of the few K-4 that still had all of the gear doors operating and was painted according to RLM specs for a K-4. Other than the radio antenna being futher back it's a great example of what a K-4 should have been like. It actully looks pretty impressive despite the lack of molt and typical camo colors.

Hi Frank --

Thanks! Yes, the 'Engine Gray' certainly sounds close -- go with 66? Easily done, especially as I still need to pick up 66 for the Go 229 that's been waiting to get off the apron the last few weeks.

I'm looking forward to building the K-4! I need some stuff from Squadron, canopy masks and such, some warload for my Corsair, so I'll see if I can tag on masks for the Karl, possibly TD wheels, and see what decals are on offer too.

Cheers,

Mike

Mike-

I updated page 1 for you!  As far as the cockpit goes, I would have painted it RLM 66.  Is the engine gray pretty close to 66?

Hi all,

I decided to excavate my stash today, which meant climbing up a mound of cartons and getting into one at the back, near the ceiling. I was able to pull out the Hasegawa 1:48 Karl and she looks a sweet build! (Also located two other kits in the carton that weren't properly listed, and logged them in -- now I know where that missing Tamiya E-3 is!)

I'll need to do some research. Kit markings include Yellow 4 (Strebel, II/JG 3, March '45) and Yellow 1 (II/JG 27, no date given). I'll do a websearch for available decals and see what good-looking schemes are to be had.

I'm a tad confused about the detail painting. Hasegawa use Gunze paint codes and RLMs for different items on the list. The cockpit is mostly painted Gunze 339, for which a FS equivalent is given, 16081 'Engine Gray.' Does anyone have any idea what RLM they might be refering to? It's not Schwartzgrau, that's on the list elsewhere for different items.

I have to excavate again tomorrow, there's a carton missing and three possible subjects for the 1000 Roadwheels GB are in it!

Cheers,

Mike/TB379

Very well documented G-6. I really like the marking and camo of white 7 as well. Some day I plan on doing my 1/24 trumpeter early G-6 in those marking. As far as the eye goes, it looks blue to me but it is hard to tell. The trumpy kit come with both.

OK I'm down to two choices for my G-6 9/JG54, Ludwigslust, Feb 44 Yellow 1 Bar flown by Oblt Schilling   or  II/JG51 Bulgaria, June 44 White -7 Ofw Kuhlein.

Stan,

Sorry, my bad!  I mis-read your post. Banged Head [banghead]  Now I see that you were pointing out that we were building aircraft from the same unit.  I'll stick with Yellow 2 and look forward to seeing White 7 from you!

I would be very interested in anything you turn up on Yellow 2.  Funny you mention KGJ 6, I was just putting another sheet of Eagle Cals decals in my shopping cart for Black < of KGJ 6! Big Smile [:D]

As for the lottery, maybe we should both play!

PM inbound! Wink [;)]

No way frank, I have no plans in the near future to do yellow 2, I got those decals a while back and now can't remember why. I have had plans all year to do white 7, just haven't gotten off by butt to get things gathered up. I figure if you were going to do a KGJ 109 and I would build one along side you. Of all the 109 choices what are the chances of two people in the same GB pick 109 from the same unit nad time frame? maybe I should play the lottery.

If I remember correctly KGJ 6 operated a mixed bag of G-10's and K-4's to protect there me 262's. when I did research on white 7 I found info on yellow 2 (I think this is when I got the decals). Even if I was doing yellow 2 why would it to stop you? Both graf's G-6 and and this K-4 have been on my shrot list for too long, may as well get them done.

Sorry didn't mean to sound that way. I think It's a great idea!

Stan- Was Yellow 2 the bird you were going to do?  I was just looking at adding another sheet or two of Eagle Ed's decals to my stash. Wink [;)]  I'll go ahead and order them and take a look at them when they arrive.  If you wanted to build Yellow 2, please by all means do so!

Karl- You got it!  I added you to page one, just let me know which one you decide on and I'll add it next to your name. Thumbs Up [tup]

Frank, can you put me down as a starter?

Not sure what I'll go with, obviously a 109Black Eye [B)], but seeing as I have decals in the stash for both K-4s and G-10s, I'll probably go with a G6!Smile [:)]

My next build is a Messerschmitt, just the 109's big brother the 110.

Frank, it would seem me and you have similar tast in 109's. Yellow 2 is also a jet defender for KgJ 6. I have that decal sheet as well. This one caught my eye is white 7 a K-4. I think this 109 had RLM 82 on the fuselage and RLM 83 on the wings. With the odd camo, red spinner and KGJ's red and black RV band I thought this would make a great looking model. I found white 7 decals and the correct national marking. I can paint the band and spinner. If you decide to do yellow 2 I may push white 7 up and do this one first.

Hey Frank! Got the kit, lots of Eduard PE, AM decals, a CMK resin 'pit/wheels/spinner, and some Moskit exhausts to throw into it. Should be fun! Big Smile [:D]

Welcome Mike!  I am very glad you joined us!  Sounds like you have everything you need for a beautiful build! Big Smile [:D]

Bet you're ready for something a little different after those three Hurricanes! Tongue [:P]

And how Frank! I do not think I will be doing any RAF camo colors for a while! I am still seeing cross-eyed! I can feel the Luftwaffe calling me to the dark side now!
