Wo.  Some might fine work being displayed here.  I really AM part of this GB, even though I haven't been participating at all.  I have been lurking and looking, and I'm really blown away by the builds!

I've started my Dragon Fokker Dr.1, (Frank, might want to update the front page!) and will have some pics up shortly of my progress!  Should be a fairly short and to the point build, though I am going to have to figure a few things out, as I cannibalized a few parts off of this kit to finish my Albatros for the first KOTS (chiefly the PE guns!!)

I'll be building Josef Jacob's 470/17, which is an all black scheme.  Stephen, if you're still around here, did this particular a/c have crosses on the bottoms of the bottom wing?  I've seen a couple of different profiles, and I'm not sure which is correct!

I'd like to steal I mean borrow that tip when your finished with it Daywalker. Wing_nut, that Camel is looking great. I like how the preshading looks, subtle and effective. Very nice.

Guy-Can't wait to see that one finished.

Bob-WOW that looks great.  Well done.

Mobious-wait no longer...

I used lead foil to add coaming around the cockpit. It gets glued tot he outside edge 1st then when it is burnished inward iut makes little creases like in a leather one would have.

Struts, numbered to remmeber what goes where, and prop are ready to go.

Stephen, the rigging looks spot on. Very nice work. Two thumbs up and a bow.

Wing_nut, looking forward to seeing the results of the preshading.

guy, Very cool and unusual. This one looks almost finished.

Bob, Excellent finish. Looks like she's ready to fly. The support gear adds to an already excellent build. Two thumbs up and a bow.

Bob- All I can say is MIND BOGGLING!!!  The details, every where I look I see something new.  From the turnbuckles, to the subtle paint chips, to the weathering on the engine- fantastic work! Bow [bow]

Simply stunning Bob, everything about it cries out 'Perfect' From the subtle wethering to the fantastic finish. The engine especially, in my eyes, is detailed and painted perfectly. This is, for sure, a top shelf build. Vunderbar.

Hi all, sorry ive not posted in a while, but the Battery eater (My camera) was hungry again.

Anyhoo, i have most of the sub-assemblies done, I just need a concerted shove in the right direction and ill be done i think. Im not going to go to heavy on the weathering. So here she is so far. More soon.

Found this site while playing around on the KC Dawn Patrol site.  www.wbhaviland.org  It's the photo scrapbook of a gentleman who served with the Lafayette Escadrille, then went on to be one of the first Naval Aviators.  Take lots of time and enjoy.

That is a great job on those wings Marc. Very smart way to address a trick problem. I can't wait to see how the preshading looks when its done.

I sidelined my D VII for a bit because of the complex fuselage camo and I really needed a break. I plan on practicing a idea I have to obtain the streaked linen on the fuselage this weekend and if it works apply it to the model. Then I can get rolling agian on this adventure. I had no idea how time consuming and tricky these old biplanes were to build but I do love learning from all of the experts here and am glad I joined even if I have hit some snags along te way.

Great stuff Stephen. Really starting to look the part.

Marc, love the preshading. Anyone would think that you build planes all the time. Not part time, between targets LOL.

First color coats go on tonight now the preshading is done.  The whole this was covered iwth flat black then lightly sanded with 3200 micro mesh which left the black in all the low areas and cleaned off the highlights.  No way I was getting all those lines sprayed by hand straight.

Almost completed. Still need to rig tail unit & ailerons. Next the fuel pump strut mounted generator (spares box.) Then clean up sol & set residue. Finally the final clear coat.  I went with the basic cowling but in rerality I should probably have used the RNAS type with twing spandaus (Eduard only offer the the single Vickers type.)

It seems the RNAS types with the Bentleys installed had that overlapping upper cowling. As a matter of fact it may have been strickly a naval contract installment on F.1 &  2F.1 types no matter what engine was installed.  Several of the known images of Camels in this production series bear this out.

Those busts do look really good. I agree. Model Cellar, I think you might see an order from me in the next little while. Are you planning any more releases in this 150mm bust range ?

I've finally found some AFC decals for my Sopwith Pup, so I feel happy to proceed now. They are made by a company called Novascale, who specialise in Australian subjects. I'll pick up this build once they arrive. I've done the interior, joined the fuselage, but it's stalled there as I wasn't completely happy with my choice of subject.

Cheers

Thanks Mobious.

Guy that is going to work out great for me.  My "doped linen" is a bit yellow so a touch of gray and some white should be just right.

Cheers for niceties,

Marc the linen colour was mixed from Tamiya acrylics. It was about 80% Flat white 10% Yellow and 10% Neutral grey. Doesnt look too bad to my eye.

Hi all,Marc, looking lovely and metally. Definately taking shape.

I managed to get a fair bit done today (Day off).I masked up the nose deck area and sprayed it with my wonder alluminium, then I got the Linen colour on the wings and then coated them with Tamiya Clear. That stuff is great as it goes off rock hard in under an hour. It went off so quick i was able to decal them as well. The register of the roundels was a little off, with them being slightly see through. Aah well you cant win em all. LOL. Heres where it is so far,

More soon, but there are still a thousand minute strut thingy doo dads that need cleaning up and squirting.

Nice work so far.  too bad that tri color is not onthe top of the wing.  Kinda like..."Hey you... way over there... guess what... I'm ITALIAN! Fagetaboutit! "

Ludwig-very cool looking busts

Brad-that sure is nice lookin'

Scott.  Thanks for thr input.  I think I will try to tone to yellow look somewhat.

Progress is painfully slow.  Cathing up on the post-winter yard work. Unlike others around hereWhistling [:-^]... I am gettin' old and I draggin' my sorry hind quarters by the end of the day.

But here is what's happening at the moment. When gluing the front cowl on, the Tenax was running down to my fingers, unbeknownst to meAngry [:(!], that was hold the sides of the fuselage. OI had to file off the access panels because of the gigundo melted in fingerprint and reaplce with some .005 plastic card.

After complaining about how mnay times I broke off the struts on my Camel in KotS I, I am trying Steve's method of drilling all the  struts to accept a piece of wire.  Being real careful I was able to get down about an 1/8".  Me thinks this will work!
