Looking good Guy!  I like the look of the national colors on the bottom of the wings.  I have considered doing my Nieuport 11 this way, after seeing photos of them.  You ought to have this one buttoned up by the end of the football game! Big Smile [:D]

Well the weekend has arrived and before football, i managed to get a bit of spraying done. I sprayed the undersides of the wings and ive mixed up some linen colour for the top wing (Not on yet)

I also sprayed the hull and underside White (Hidden by the tape) and then sprayed the sides 'Wood' colour, ready for the Oil streaking to represent the grain, Oh and i also gave the lot a coat of Future for a barrier coat and prep for decals,

The round dots on the top deck arnt sprue gates! They are supposed to be there, and White. So i used a hole punch to make some small masks for them.

If i get chance ill be able to do some more this afternoon.

thanks to everyone for the feedback on the busts, there quite easy to do,the only thing i found you have to be careful of is the direction of your brush strokes as this really shows up when the wash is applied.

Wow Ludwig, those busts look real and im not just saying that. Bleeding brilliant mate.

Brad, ive seen the Walfish in a few mags and online but thats the 1st time i had. Did they see much action in WW1. Its a very strange looking bird for sure. Your build looks amazing. I love the fishy decals. The whole thing looks great, Top marks.

...Guy

P.S ive not been able to get anything built much as work has been getting in the way. More soon.

Brad,

Very nice job on the Roland C.II! Bow [bow]

Ludwig,

Those busts turned out very well indeed! Thumbs Up [tup]  If I get a chance, I will show a photo of the Richthofen bust that I painted a few years ago.

"Sail Color" is from the Gunze line of paints.  It is a light tan color, and the Model Master line of enamels and acrylic paints do contain a similar tan, if you typically use them.  I have also used the Humbrol "Linen", and I would agree that it has a yellow palor to it.  Of course, not having seen what new linen used on the original aircraft really looked like, I have used the color sparingly.

ludwig- Very nice!  I like those a lot, especially with them all lined up like that.  I recognize a couple of them, but would you mind telling us the pilot's names?

Brad- Nicely done, thanks for sharing the pics! Approve [^]

Hey Guy, Great looking start. The Alcad aluminum looks convincing!  Nice work on the engine too. An interesting subject and will be looking forward to progress updates.

Ludwig, That's an impressive and great looking collection. I really like the bronze look very much.

Brad, The camo on the Walfisch is great as is the build. Very cool. I like the finish. Two Thumbs Up and a Bow. Thanks for sharing that one.

Great looking builds going on here, keep up the fun!

Hi all - here is my build of the latest boxing of the Eduard Roland C.II "Walfisch" ("whale") - all completely OOB, decals and all.  This is a very nice kit in my opinion, and excellent for someone looking to get in to WW1 modelling - only two stuts and very little rigging.

Can't show too much more for now as this one will (hopefully) be appearing in Scale Aircraft Modelling magazine in the next few months... sorry I couldn't mention it earlier :-)

That said, all feedback welcomed!

i forgot to re paint the bases but will do it at some point(there primer at the moment).

Hmm ... Felixstowe F.2A ... hmmm ....

Josh

(Edit: nvm. I couldn't do rigging to save my life. Save the kit for another time. Curtiss H16 would be fun too.)

Thanks for sharing that review Stephen!  I like the idea of the optional stressed fabric fuse parts on the SE, great idea.  I shall follow your build with great interest. Thumbs Up [tup]

Guy- What can I say?  Bloody outstanding work my friend! Big Smile [:D]

Cheers for that Stephen. Im definately after the Gotha when its ready. Oooh yeah baby. Now that would be an imposing beasty.

Done a bit more to my floater. Not quite as quick as id hoped LOL. Im on a funny shift this week. Starts at 11am. So i only get an hour or so in the morning before work to do anything really. By the time i get home, eat, shower etc....yo get the gist.

Anyhoo the fuz sides went together. A bit of filler here and there on the inserts, but im pleased overall. I then used Mr surfacer 500 neat on the big gaps and then when dry, thinned down with lacquer thinners over the scratched areas,

Ive since the last pic, polished it all up and its looking good. Ive toyed with an alternative to Alclad for the Alluminium top deck. What you think, its very very smooth,

I may be able to get some paint on the fuzz tomorow.

Cheers chums, I reckon this is going to be a fairly quick build. Theres only about 60 pieces.

Ive gotten te fuselage together. There is an insert for the keel and for the top rear decking, both of which require fettling to get them in sweetly. Ive got the Mr surfacer drying as i type. Hopefully ill get a few pics up before work tomorrow.

As for a dio...mmm...sounds like a plan

Thx Frank.

Marc, looks like you've fallen back into your true Niche. The engine looks great as does the work on the fuz so far.

Ive had today off so i started on the Macchi. Heres what she looks like if any of you dont know already,

The kit doesnt have that many parts but does come with an impressive array of resin,

which brings me to my mission of the day, the engine,

after a coat black, i sprayed the whole thing with alclad steel,

I then detailed it further using sparse references for this engine. I added plug wires, Various pipes, throttle link, rad hoses and maybe some other stuff that escapes me,

and finally wethered using brown and rusty pastels and tamiya smoke mixed with black for the oil leaks, (All engines leak a bit LOL)

While various bits were drying, i prettyfied the sparse dash panel,

There are other bits that are drying as we speak...err...read...whatever. So ill post them shortly.

I added it to page one, now get cracking on it! Big Smile [:D]

Marc- Nicely done!  Your "sail color" looks right to me, and you obviously have not let your workmanship slide after all of those armor builds. Wink [;)]

Some real progress... finally.  Gotta take my time since these part don't represent 3 inch thick armor plate and I can't cover a booboo with mudWhistling [:-^]

Motor and inteiror.  Added some coming around the cockpit with lead foil.  Push rods are a bit thick but will have to do.

the Eduard sheet keeps calling out "Sail Color" .  What color is that?  I picked up some Humbrol Doped Linen but is seems very yellow to me. It is next to the fuel tank.

". . .The eduard instruction sheet color call out for the engine push rods (are they rods or tube like on a WWII radial?) is for copper.  Is that correct?"

Greetings Marc. The push rods are steel.  There is a 150hp Clerget in London Museum of Science.

That is looking very sweet Bob.

I finished my t-55 last week but biz has picked up (and just in time to float the sinking shipSmile [:)]) so progress has been painfully slow.  But start I did.  Sure is weird building an airplane againWink [;)]

What paint did you use for that yellow, it looks thin, but has great coverage?

Hello Sir,

The yellow used for the Pfalz was from the Gunze Sangyo  range. RLM O4 If my memory serves me right. Thinned with tamiya lacquer thinner.

Thanks goes out for all the great comments.

Hi Frank, my juices are reinvigorated. The Gotha's on hold untill i find some paint references, so im throwing a new build into the fray. Its Italian (Really i hear you shout) and its a Macchi M.5 flying boat from Fly in 1/48.
