Since my X-15 is done, my next goal is to finish up on the V dub. I managed to get the water as nice as possible, so now I just have to add trim to the base, some more weathering on the road, and then I'm done!  I also want to start in on the B-17. Anyone know how to sand seams when it's raised rivits galore? I don't wanna rescribe and I like how it looks. Think of it as a high-detail (to a certain extent) desktop plane. I mean, I gotta use that huge stand, right?

Sounds like it needs some drying time before cleaning off the excess. Oil paints are very slow to dry and like to cling to each other so it must be pulling off the stuff you want to leavr behind. I'd give it some drying time then try it out. Gotta go to work! Booo!  Hope you get it solved!

I updated the roster page for you.

I built that huey in a big hurry, think that it took about two days.  Looking at it now, I would be more carefull and add some styrine to the interior roof so that you cannot see down through the transmission area into the cabin.  I would also point out that the chin bubble glass is very thick and the fit is horrible.  If you take your time and watch the seams it can turn into a nice little build.

Roy,

What are you wiping the wash with?  When doing panel lines I will do everything that you have said, then let it dry for about 10-20 minutes.  Once that time has elapsed, I use a q-tip with a bit of thinner on it an lightly run it along the line until the excess has been removed.  I wouldnt worry too much about the little dots as you are applying the wash.  Just take your time and a bunch of Q-tips and it should be ok.

Hope that helps

Matt

Got a bit of time at the workbench and bit the bullet to try a temp winter camo scheme.  For my first try I dont think that it turned out too bad, am sure that I will get some pointers for the next time.

I also snapped a pic or two of the UH-1C that I finally finished.

Roy: thanks for the motivation (ie this group build) I am making great headway through my unfinished kits.

Matt

Any comments or questions are welcome

Graham, nice work on a cool looking aircraft.  Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]  Congrats on the braces and the 500 posties.  Keep at it.

Sean, I feel all wimpy all of a sudden.  My two feet of snow on the ground pales in comparison.  The snow has let up for now and the forecast for rain tomorrow has been revised.  However it is still supposed to get up to +8C (46F) so things are still going to get sloppy.

Nice one Summit!

Finally! My X-15 is done! I didn't worry too much about the lost panel detail since it will be hung from my ceiling. I just took my losses and made the best out of it. Please, ask any questions that you want! Enjoy all!

(Note, Wyoroy, If you wanna put a pic on page 1, use the last one. It's the best of the lot!)

Graham aka Boba Fett

(note:Triple celebration for me today! Approve [^] Approve [^] Approve [^] I hit 500 posts, finished this, and got my braces off today after 2 years!)

Roy - I am not a user of acrylics but I have heard Windex works real well for removal.

Here is a pic for your Wife, I had my Daughter just take this in jest to Aaron's Garden pics.

Did some research on the parrot nosed P-40.  It was from a training unit in Napier Airfield, Alabama during WW2.  My first try at a wash was an acrylic with water ans dish soap.  They called it a sludge wash.  It didn't work out for me. so I ended up removing it using lacquer.  This time I'm going to try using oil based paints.  I little raw umber mixed with a bit of black.  The oil paints are Winsor & Newton.  I just want to highlight the panel lines.  If this works I will try to do some exhaust staining and so forth.  I do love the markings of the parrotBig Smile [:D]

Yours look too cool Roy!. What are you gonna do to weather them. I still have the guns to finish and looks like the fan split the wing/ fuselage seam on the same side. Grumpy [|(] Serves me right for taunting.  I was thinking a grayish or burnt sienna wash then spray a lighter tan very thinned coat to blend the colors a bit more. Seal it all up with future Dull coat and finish!  I want to drill out the guns and match up the seams better on the nose MG's For an old kit it really doesn't turn out half bad.

Still love that red hawk though!

Matt.

Roy - How did that P-40 fit together? Think that I got the same kit for christmas, doesnt look too complex in the box, just tiny.

The Academy 1/72 P40E went together great.  I did make a new seat for it.

Here she is now, just waiting for the replacement decals from Dave.

That one was left over from the Weekend Madness GB.

For this GB I'm trying to finish Mauves 1/48 P-40N

Remove the wash that I had on it and sprayed a coat of future Monday.  Will try an oil wash thisa time.  The kit was started ten plus years ago with a True Details resin pit.  The fit was great.  I think Eduards has the molds now.  The Mauve factory was destroyed in the Kobi (I think thats the spelling) earthquake back in the 90s.

Aron, the P-40 looks great.  My little guys loves any aircraft with a sharkmouth.  I know they had a P-40 GB awhile back but perhaps later this year we can start another one?

Now that's a boot!  Looks midevil!

Roy while I've been waiting for my PBY paint to dry and fiddling with Franks 109 GB I managed to squeeze in another quick little build I wanted to do. In honor of your efforts I built an Old Monogram P-40B and put Tomahawk markings on it! Love the original Shark mouths!  So not making any excuses I got out the box and finished it. The kit had a $5.39 price tag so It's been here a while!

My battery died taking pics of the PBY so my in progress got deleted by accident but I saved these just for you!

In a sense of poetic justice for my weather teasing I went to hold it up to shoot a pic of the underside and put it right into the path of my spinning ceiling fan. This sent it flying across the room. It landed on the bed with the only break being one of the wing guns which I have to find or replace. Well what can ya do?  Duh! On me! Banged Head [banghead]

As for building; still working on the wash for the P-40.  The future should be hard by now.  Also spent time on some other GBs, the FAA Corsar and my Spitfire.  I think I may be the only one left in that buildBoohoo [BH]

We have been getting Snow since bedtime last night, the forecast for rain is going to make things real spooky.

Roy, I just checked the weather forecast and they have issued another  heavy snowfall advisory.  10 to 30cm (4 to 12") of snow tonight turning into rain tomorrow!!!  I just scraped 4" of the driveway last night.  Shock [:O]Dead [xx(]Sigh [sigh]

If you're still crying for snow come and get it.  Plenty of it.  Bring the snow blower!!!

...and if you're wondering why your package has not arrived it's because the mail truck can't get out of the parking lot!
