Thanks for the replys on the Chi~202

Guy - I still had to "Dullcoat" the prop as it was still Gloss white in the pics. I had also toyed with an antenna wire but I changed my mind real quick while attempting to do so. Whistling [:-^]

SC- I have been on a "Wheels Up" building spree so far this year. The shelf's needed a change of pace.

Aaron -  I have missed your progress reports.  I was using my Airbrush to get the prop to spin. We do not get wind where I live now. One of the reasons I like it so well here.

Now this is Super Cool - Check out what I just ordered for a Future Build here

Shock [:O]  Takes me forever to build a single engine fighter from Hasegawa, prolly would take me two years to build and paint that one. Disapprove [V]

Thanks Aaron for that badge!  The decal sheet has it, just doesn't show it on that aircraft.  Guess when the time comes, I shall decide which way to go with it.

Sean- THAT is a gorgeous 202!  Love the in-flight with spinning prop, very cool.  Alex looks ready for biz! Big Smile [:D]

Thats gonna be sweeeeet. looks like a lot of canopy masking, but you are the king of handbrushing, aren't you?

I'm going to the beach in March for a week, think I'll take along a ship model.

Morning all.  Not so many replys to go through this morn. Does that mean that your all heads down, working hard? I hope so kids. Sean, that is a gorgeous score. I think thats what the Heinkell 111 would have looked like if they had designed it. Far more gorgeous looking.

Frank, you neednt worry about the Italieri kits, theyre great. The newer ones even come with some documentary reference to the subject in them. Overall thier stuff is very nearly on a par with Tamigawa.

Well i need a good kick up the Ariss, i got in last night went upstairs to fidde at me bench and did NADA!! Well, i fiddled with a dodgy vent for about 2 hrs. Whats wrong with me. Id normally have build a couple of kits in that time. I think maybe its the shift im on giving me the heebies, that and the fact that i didnt finish the CR and had to put it to one side. I am a creature of habit you know. I never normally start another kit till the 1st is on my shelf. You all know who's to blame, dont we?

This is my last day at work before a long weekend, Fri Sat Sun and Mon off, Woo hoo, but SWMBO'ed has shed loads of stuff for me to do tomorrow. I only hope i can get some bench time. One of the things i am doing tomorrow is going to the LHS for a couple of kits. More on that later. They wont be RA kits im afraid. I have another RA kit coming through the post though. That should be here today or tomorrow.

Keep up the good work all.

Guy- After seeing Dave's work on that kit, they should retire it as no one can top it.  Kinda like retiring a sports jersey. Bow [bow]  I am hard at work on the office of the 109 (yes, 109! Big Smile [:D]) and hope to have pics later.  Stay tuned for more updates from the bench of the resident turtle-speed builder. Whistling [:-^]

To which kit are you refering too Frank.  The psychadelic paint job was the Br 20.  Sean has ordered the Ca 311.  I have the Ca 311 in the stash from the Secret Santa GB but have not yet built it.  I know, I know, Italian is all Greek to you Mr. 109 Guy! Wink [;)]

When do we get to see your Prop.?  (That sounded bad Whistling [:-^])

What no updates! Oh my! This won't do!  I haven' got much but will show what I squeezed in today!

I thought these doo dads on the sprue were grab handles or hoses . Nope the are the scissor spring for the landing gear? Shock [:O] Round? I donnu but I took my PE shears and cut some triangular hourglass looking shape out of PE fret garbage and bent them. I think it will look more the part.

On that kazoo looking thingie that Frank explained to me. On Page 30 and Guy page 31, Venturi tube?  ( sounds like pasta)  I tried to measure one up and recreate or scratch one out of stretched sprue. I used the cones created by the stretch and cut off two of them to size. Drilled out the holes and glued them together in an hour glass shape.  Again compared to the kit part above them with all the flash distortion and ejector pin marks I think It will look better. May have errored on the small side a bit?  Looks like the pics they posted to me.  Whatcha think? Does it look like a kazoo thingie?

Everything is painted and decaled and sitting to dry. Should be finished soon. That is as soon as I find my windscreen! Confused [%-)]Banged Head [banghead] I guess there is no hope for me. AND WHOSE FAULT IS THAT!?!?!? Wink [;)]

Nice work on the scissors, Big boy. Thats a gimmie on all my builds. The moulded on scissors never look right to me. And for an easy fix, it really makes a difference to the look.

The kazoo thingy looks right to me. Did you see the pic i posted? On the 205 in the museum. I think that yours is closer to 'Real' scale than the kit part.

Here it is again, incase you couldnt be bothered to go back and look LOL.

Ive just sat through the film 'St Trinnians', thats 120 minutes of my life ill never get back!!!! I may be able to get some modelling done tomorrow. You never know. One of my missions on it is to reproduce the cabling in the U/C well, like Aaron did but in 1/32. Geez. It all sounds like hard work to me LOL.

I finally have WIP photos to share!  The cockpit is mostly finished, just need to give the white oil paint used to color the gauge details a day or two more to dry before adding the lenses.  The fuselage is glued up, and the seams are mostly finished except for the bottom fuselage between the wing and tail.  I also thinned the blade openings in the spinner to better replicate the sheet metal spinner housing.  I hadn't planned on working on the spinner yet, but it seemed that I had better get moving on it!  Just need to detail the rear cockpit bulkhead and paint it before adding the office. Wow~Wee  Frank- That IP looks nice Approve [^] Thumbs Up [tup].  I wish I had caught this was a Hasegawa kit earlier in the build, as I am sure I have some 109 PE hid away somewhere. Not sure which varient though. Is the interior painted with Tamiya Acrylics ?

Thanks Sean!  I am happy with the way it is looking so far.  I didn't go hog-wild detailing the office like the last 109 I built, as I rarely (if ever) look at the cockpits after I build the kit.  Just added a couple details to "clutter" it up a tad. Big Smile [:D]

PE as in photoetch?  Gotta be honest, haven't really tried much of it.  Sure looks like nice stuff though. Thumbs Up [tup]  I have an AM SBD-3 I want to finish, but the PE dive flaps I got for it to replace the horrible warped kit parts scare me a little. Blush [:I]

I did paint the gray with Tamiya XF-63 German Gray, and detail paints are Vallejo. Thumbs Up [tup]

Frank, very nice work on the pit. The IP is especially nice and well done. Im with you on the PE stuff. Problem is I have a kit comming up with a ton of PE in it and its scaring me to death.

I've got a fair amount of PE experience building 1/350 ships. There's an article about it in the new FSM, but frankly, it's not very good.

First and foremost, invest in a brake. Mine is from Mission Models, other people like Etchmate. Not only is it a good straight edge, but it's a third hand, and if part of the part is in it, the carpet monster goes hungry. And he REALLY likes PE. And don't use the plastic spatulas that come with it, use a single edge razor blade.

Next, paint on the fret. I've never seen the need to pickle or prime ahead, as some do, but a shot with a rattle can first is the way to go. These things drink paint on account of the open spaces.

PE doesn't replace round objects too well, and the fret designers tend to go overboard, so I never use up the whole fret. Stuff like flaps, panels and sights work, but gun barrels, antennas, struts etc. don't do it for me. Oh, and Frank you may need to invest in an optivisor.

Handle with care, stick it on LAST.

Frank, good to see some progress even if it isn't on the propeller Wink [;)] Looking Good! Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]

I tried doing a 1/700 Essex carrier once with a full PE set.  Pretty near drove me mad.  I don't mind a few bits like IP's and seat belts etc. but I don't think I'll ever try another project like the Essex.  Dead [xx(]

I've been plugging away on the G55S and I just have to finish painting Guido and mask and attach the canopy and I'm ready to paint.

Wonderful Progress Frank! That pit looks sharp!  I did all that work on the RE 2005 and the opening is so narrow and the canopy such a figity fit you can't see nearly as much as I thought.Grumpy [|(] Probably won't stop me from using what I have though. Guy would whip me if I had the details and not use em!

Now on the MC 200 where it is almost all scratched outta stuff laying around the bench I think I've made a big diff so it kinda evens out.

Dave looking sweet!  I always have to do a double take and check the wings to tell the diff between a Fiat G 55 and the RE 2005. They look real close to me except for the wing. You fellows with the 1/72 stuff sure have my respect. Bow [bow]

Got mine all together and the dull coat is drying.  Have to see how much weathering is needed as Sean says it is a Mr. Clean build right now. I think I can dirty it up a bit without going too overboard.

See ya tomorrow!

Hey all, Frank thats looking sweet my friend. You look like youve done one or two of those before. Especially like the IP. Im a PE nut, i just cant buy enough of the stuff. Ive beeen using it since i got back into modelling and the only tool ive ever bought to fold the stuff was a pair of tamiyas photoetch pliers.

Dave, Looking close to paint, if its not then you only have yourself to blame LOL. Isnt it funny how so many of the italian fighters looked so similar, even from different manufacturers. Fiat, Reggiane and Macchi all produced stuff that, to the untrained eye, was identicle. Crazy.

Well my plans for today, as im off, are,

1st, The model shop for 2 kits...A Gotha GV or GIV in 1/72 and the Revell 1/32 JU88

2nd, Off with SWMBO'ed to get her some shoes that fit her huge swollen Club foot.

3rd, Do lunch. She paying. Wooo hooo, Steaks all round (Doh im a veggie)

4th, Get home and look at the leak in the bathroom. Doh

5th, Have a look at a buddies car that needs a shocker replacing.

6th, Photograph another model that arrived yesty for THIS GB!!!

7th, and finally, if time, DO SOME MODELLING!!

Dave - I like it Thumbs Up [tup] DId this aircraft have the super tiny rubber wheels ?  Guido looks a little pale ~ is he airsick before getting off the ground ?

Aaron - You really need to build a 1/72 aircraft. I have to warn you though they are Habit Forming.  ps ~ check your pm's.

Frank - Thanks for the reply, hmmm here I thought you liked P/E details. I a not very impressed by them either except for IP panels and seatbelts also. They (eduard) can keep their Mini Toasters with the bent forks stuck in them !

Aaron, Guy, I have a Reganne 2001(?) and yes there are definitely similarities between them.

Frank, there was only one prototype made so I only have one choice unless I decide to do a what if operational marking.  The prototype had a scheme similar to the one Sean just did.  Here's a rendering of what it looks like...

Sean, no rubber wheels thank goodness.  Guido is looking a little blueish-grey still.  You would too if you were stuck in a box for 20+ years.  Laugh [(-D]  Ah well, we'll freshen him up a bit before we send him up for a flight.

All in all considering what I had to work with it didn't turn out too bad. I had a lotta fun with it!

Very nice Aaron, your doing this GB a sterling service my man. I think it looks just right with the yellow nose.

Ive had an absolute nightmare, Ive officially given up on my PCM 205. No joke. I got to the stage where the pit needed to go in and it just wasnt having it. Everytime i tried to get the cockpit sides flush with the fuzz the CA would pop apart under the strain. On closer examination the actuall shape of the curvature of the resin pit was no where ear the shape of the fuzz. Im just spent, really. I turned to the CR. to try to get my mojo back. Failed. The CR now has struts though, just needs a little paint.

I need another hobby, something simpler, like stamp collecting.
