Regia Aeronautica GB II (06/15/09 to 06/15/10)

Very well done Guy. The fried eggs look great. I have to knock you a bit for the quality of the photos though. When you get a chance we want some better pics! I guess if you have to go build one of those bent wing thingies that Frank likes we'll have to let you go off to play for a bit. Anyway we got old Sarge back now so we'll be ok for now. I actually started working on the G-55 last night. I managed to get the wheel wells painted and the prop. I also touched up the cockpit to prepare for the canopy installation. I'm going to get the landing gear on tonight and paint up the cannons barrel details. Pics soon.

Yey, Bondo's here  The eggy doo dahs, do have 2 colours. They are sort of wrotten eggs. By the spat thingys i mean the gear doors. There arnt any location pins so you have to lay the UC flat and then try to get the doors in the right position using Superglue as the fixings are resin. So its sort of get it right 1st time or your in the doo doo, so to speak.

I reckon it was a cracking kit. Not too many hassles. The U/C spat thingys are a bit tricky but apart from that, i highly recommend it.

As for my next kit, im afraid its got to be the Corsair for the war in the pacific. I know, A corsair!! Me with a bent wingy thing. My next RA kit....mmm....the Piaggio has the edge,

SC! 100 ton is purdy light. The small engines are 750,000 lbs with out sand.  One loaded coal car is 120 tons and a whole coal train is about 110 of those cars long. About 15,000 plus tons at 55 MPH what a rush!

The Bradley tanks were only 32 tons and the Abrams around 72 tons. But they had nice guns!  Put some guns on the Locomotive and I'd be right at home! But alas all I can do is ring the bell and toot the whistle. Go forward and backward. Heck Like Guy sez they dont even trust me enough to let me steer. But always remember with trains it is not how fast you can go but how fast you can stop! 

I wondered what that stuff was doing there! Wine gum that is? Guy said that is a new skone flavor. I'd better check with Bondo as it's a rum thing and he'd be the one to ask!

The Cruisers looking good Sarge. Take it easy there for a while. I know all about not sleeping. If you notice many of my post are after 12 EST. So you had the medicine but it said do not operate heavy machinery if you are taking this? I guess a 100 ton freigh train qualifies as heavy machinery!  Well I finally had to take time off work. Doctors orders I am afraid. I haven't slept right in about 2 months and was just wearing a bit to thin. Have to undergo a mess of test to se if I need surgery but that word won't be decided until the end of the month.  So in the meantime I guess I can build stuff!

 Worrking some more on the Italian Cruiser today.

Slowly coming together but its progress I say!  Will be starting the fine tuning and detail stuff tomorrow after a good nights sleep. ( If I am lucky) At least now I can take the medicine that I had to pass on before due to the job.

Wow I guess you are going to make the most of the old Cr32. Looks like she'll be dressed to the nines! So which one will be first the Piaggio of the Fiat?

 As for the Solvent issue. I used both Micro set and Sol. They both leave a whitish residue but this can be wiped off with a little water on a paper towel. All cool beans , i might add.

Full and detailed review presented tomorrow. Quinten Tarrantino is a God in my eyes, so i fear it may be a little biased LOL.

WOW YOU MOVE FAST GUY!!!  Did you freehand all the eggs?  Awesome job!!!

As for leaving future to dry before decaling if you have to use any kind of solvent to get your decals to snuggle down the solvent can sometimes react with the future leaving a whitish kind of residue.  Letting the future cure first avoids this problem.

I expect a full report on the flic (please - this is NOT homework) !!!

Hey ho, me again. Its been my day off today so ive managed to get a fair bit done. 1st up the green was squirted,

then i was ready to spray the 1st part of the 'Poached eggs' and i realised that the gun troughs needed opening out. Doh! Out with the dremel,

It cleaned up a lot better than it looks in the picture. So it was on with the yellow,

then the 'Yolk',

then a good squirt of future and then decals. I read that some people leave future for 48hrs sometimes. This seems crazy to me. I leave it on for about an hour. Then its ready for decals. No probs yet, so ill keep going this way i reckon. Also, I use Tamiya acrylics with Tamiya Laquer thinners. This combo is superb allowing me to mask the coat after as little as 10 minutes between coats. Anyhoo, heres what she looks like now,

Just got a few fiddlys to finish up. I may have it done tomorrow if im lucky but im off to the flicks with Big E (Another day off) to see Inglorious Basterds.

Its nice to see great minds think alike there Bondo! I have build several sort run kits in the same exact manor. When the wings are a butt type fit I always  drill out the fuselage where the wing mounts then attach tabs and glue it to the fuselage halves before i glue the fuselage together. It is much easier to line the wing up and get a good fuselage to wing fit this way but the addition of the tabs really add strength in 1/48 scale. I whish I hade some pics because it does look really weird to have the wings attached to the fuselage halves before they are glued together. With the solid tailplanes I usally insert pins in them and drill coresponding holes in the fuselage.

If you look at the pic you'll see i had to pin the lowere wings on to make sure they didn't flex and crack later, and the only way I could figure to get the pin holes aligned right was to tack the wings on and then drill from inside.. Green is not the final color coat.

Capt Bondo!  It looks like you chopped it clean in two? Very different build sequence to be certain, is that an all resin kit?  Was there much warping?

Guy that Piaggio is a real cracker! I was not aware Special Hobby made that kit. I was just watching a show about the history of stragitic bombing and they talked a little bit about it. They said if Italy could have mass produced them they would have been just as effective as the B-17 or Lanc's. The also said it was mechanicly a very reliable plane. Looking forward to seeing you work your majic on it. That last smiley with the hat on and the botttle in his hand kind of reminds me of you in your birthday video you posted here

Jeremy I am not really sure about dark gull grey. I have it in my paint stash along with light gull gray. I prefer the light gull gray myself but that is not to say the light gull gray is a better match it is just what looked better to my eye. Than again that particular plane could have had the underside painted a darker gray. The info on Stormo is usally pretty good so I would go with it.

I managed to throw some primer on the SM79 and I wasn't too happy with the flaws that showed up. I decided that I didn't want to do any more fixin' so I painted the fuselage band and threw some color on the bottom.

The color I used is FS36231 (dark gull gray) which is what the STORMO website said to use and I figured they're the experts. The grey looks a little too dark to me.

What are your thoughts?

At the risk of being stupid, I always need a reminder- what's the a/c and I recall she's 1/72, correct? What colors did you use? Always useful for the databank.
