Hmmm anyone having E-mail issues with the forum? I went all day no forum e-mails only to find I missed a bunch of post now.  Yesterday I was getting 4 of each?  Guess I shall browse the old fashioned way!

Sean that Stuka is really going together fast considering your making most of the parts yourself! Why to improvise adapt and overcome adversity!

SC! That G-55 is like a fine wine! No need to rush things along! Wink [;)]

Well her she is at the last. The Classic Airframes 1/48 Fiat G-55. This kit is about as rough as any short run kit I have ever built. The basic shape and fit of the major assemblies a good but then the fun starts. All of the detail parts are so bad that they are almost unusable. I replace some of them from the spares like the tail wheel. The worst part of the kit is definetely the wheel wells and gear. The wheel well inserts are rough blobs of plastic that are inaccurate in shape and have no detail. The landing gear has almost no detail and the gear doors no where near the correct shape and do not fit. The wheels are also to narrow and only touch one side of the opening in the landing gear leg. The wheels have almost no detail and no distint area where the rim ends and the wheel starts. I fixed the poorly molded cannons by addind a piece of brass tube at the end to make them round and hollow. The exhaust manifolds were a complete work of fiction. I went to the spares box agian and added some sheet platic for the sheilds. The decals were probally the best part of the whole kit. They went down perfectly over a Future coat with no silvering at all. if you ever see ones of these kits up for sale keep on walking. It is without a doubt the worst kit Classic Airframes has ever produced.

But you did it and it looks way cool, Scott. ANR as well, which is a nice change from the norm. Very nicely done.

Well SC, it may have been a crapy kit but I can hardly tell that from your photos.  Looks like a beautiful build with a really nice paintjob from where I sit.  Well done.

Sean,  good start to your Stuka in foreign service.  First Frank with his Me 109 and now you with a Stuka.  what is this, a Luftwaffe GB.  Guy is behind this isn't he? Wink [;)]  I'm off to check out your ship thread. Thumbs Up [tup]

SC - For as much grief it caused you she sure turned out to be the "Belle of the Ball"  I am more impressed with these kind of difficult builds then "shakers" as I really enjoy seeing the creative mind work.  Fantastic job and great thinking on improvising poorly made items. Bow [bow]

Dave - Thanks, it Keeps things interesting , besides splinter camo is a breeze to most Regia's schemes.Wink [;)]

Ok Crusher,  all I see is a lovely G.55 but wheres this, Dog Rough one, you promised us. All i see is a sheer spazmogorically gorgeousliness splendiferous G.55. Definately worth the wait. One question though. Dont the U/C legs have the strength to support the planes weight? Whistling [:-^], Beautifull as those tamiya Paint pots are. LOL

Sorry for harrassing ya SC! Approve [^]

She's a beauty... definitely worth the wait! Putting all that work into it and having it come out looking so fabulous must make you feel good. Are those Luftwaffe colors on there? Whatever they are I like 'em... nice change from these wierd brown, green, and sandy colors.

I bow to your awesomeness... Bow [bow]

You are all to kind. She make look ok in the pics but she would never stand up to any close scrutiny. The unusual colors will probally make alot of poeple miss alot of the kits shortcomings. Although I can not say I really enjoyed building this kit alot when they are this bad they force you to become a modeler and not an assembler. I just could not overlook some of the glaring errors like the exhaust manifold and spend alot of time completly replaceing and scracthbuilding a new set up.

Guy I am not sure if the gear mainly the wheels will stay in place due to the fact that they are to narrow and can only be glued to one side of the gear. I had just glued them on that is why in the pics she is sitting on the Tamiya jars. I promised Jeremy pics last night so the only way I could do it was to  take them that way. I set the plane down on its gear this morning and the wheels stayed in place but I want to give the glue more time to set up so i put her back on the paint jars for now.

Jeremy yes those are Luftwaffe colors. The ANR used Luftwaffe paints on alot of their aircraft for the short time that they were in existence.

I think I am going to start on the 262 build first then come back in a bit to start my second build. I definetely need a shake and bake Tamiya build after this one to keep my sanity! Then right back into the wonderfull world of short run kits with the Pacific Coast 1/32 Macchi C202! I am still undecided on the paint for this one so I can weigh my options while I enjoy the superior fit of a nice Tamiya kit.Smile [:)]

Jeremy -  After posting the pic of that "Storch" I think you should run to the local Hobby Shop and grab the same kit to build. After all it is in the Theme of the build  - "Dinner with Mussolini"

Sean - If I could find the Tamiya kit for cheap (yeah right) and sneak it past the wife, I would be all for it... probably won't happen though.

SC - I feel horrible for not inviting you! Disapprove [V]  I should be punished by Cap'n Aaron's church lady. Shy [8)]  I forget that you aren't too far away from me... I think. We went up to Stow, MA which is about 1 1/2 hour drive north from me in good ol' Foster, RI. Might be quite a hike for you... not really sure. They hold the event at the Collings Foundation on their little grass air strip and it's only $15 to see the show... twice. Once at 11am and again at 3pm. Each show was about an hour long. Also, if you have the coin, you can take a ride in their PT-17 or T-6 which buzz the airfield all day. AWESOME! I'll definitely extend an invite next year as long as it's not too far for you to drive. Thumbs Up [tup]

Oh, sorry about the meatballs... here ya go!

Just check to see if your mailman has been gaining weight... that's where your sandwiches might be?

P.S. - Standing twenty-five feet away from a flak 88 when it's fired is insane!

It's about an hour and a half drive for me roughly. I let you slide this time but next time I'll have to sick old Sarge on ya'! I would have loved to hear that 88 go off. You can feel it in you chest when those big high velocity guns go off. Smells like victory! If you ever make it down this way I'll let you play with my Mauser 98K and Garand at the rifle range! I better keep an eye on the postman. No wonder he has been coming at lunchtime instead of later afternoon!Big Smile [:D]

Great pic of the Storch. I built one of those in 1/32. Great kit. It would be a great addition to the GB though. I read when they rescued Musso. On the take off (Downhill), the air was so thin. he was held in the Apennine Mountains, the Storch went the length of the improvised take off slope and dropped off straight down. There was mild panic amongst the rest of the rescuers untill the storch hit marginally thicker air and managed to get some lift. Ill bet that was a laugh in the cockpit LOL.

Guy - What kit was that ? I have a Minnicraft/HaseG kit that has been waiting to have the black squiggles painted on it for a couple of years now. It is a real~estate monster.

Storch 4 One of these days I will finish painting it along with the Me 321
