A little of topic here - I ventured into the "Tomb of Stash" this morning in search of 1/72 P-40 varients for a "Top Secret Project" as I was opening boxes that had not seen daylight since I moved from Las Vegas I found several more "Regia" kits.

M-1

M-2

M-3 Sadly so far I have only found 3 P-40E,Boohoo [BH] not as many as I would have like to found but there are still more boxes to go through.  Guy dont be adding these to my "to do list" just yet.Whistling [:-^]

Guy I responded to the pic you posted bit it somehow it got lost in the quote. The pilot is probally a long lost relative of mine. Yes I am also half Italian too!  He is not flying real low the ground is just real high there!

As for the engine fit problems I can see the reason why now looking at yours. I followed the pictures in the instuctions which shows the cylinder heads with about 2mm resin under the cooling fins so that is how I sanded mine down and installed them. I probally should have gone with my instincts and sanded the heads all the way down to the cooling fins and it would have fit like a charm. ^%&* instructions!  Thats ok though now I know when I build my second Cr 42 how to install them thanks to you Giy and your superior modeling skills!Bow [bow]

Guy - Have you ever dealt with Heritage aviation models ltd ?  Those are great pics of the low fly~bys , most likely trying to get a better look at Wingus or Dingus. Wonder how the Prop Blast would affect those skirts ?Shock [:O]

The engine looks Fantastic, have you tried using your coffee as a wash yet ?

HOW BOUT THEM STEELERS. Sorry Cleveland guys I know how much you hate us but oh well. Whats worse is now we have to beat the EX-Cleveland/Ravens. I was in such a good mood that I got the underside sprayed tonight.

Nice work on your engine Guy. Sorry for the pro football talk. It's like Manchester United v Chelsea in the semi finals of the FA Cup.

Now back to your regularly scheduled modelling talk and work.

Guy that is a cracker of a photo! It probally is one of my long lost realatives. Remember besides being half irish I am also half Italian too. He is not flying real low, the ground is just real high there!

As for me being hard at work I spent today trying to paint my 109 with a PIA fussy airbrush. I did get alot done yesterday on the Re 2000 as I posted last night just thought I would show the 109 some attention today.

I think the reason why you had better luck with you engine fitting is you probally sanded more off the bottom of the cylinder heads that I did making the overall width smaller. I used the instructions as a guide and the showed a signifigant amout of area below the cooling fins . If I had sanded then down alot shorted than the instructions showed I probally would have had less problems. Glad yours turned out better. Thats what I get for following the instructions! The usally are useless in almost all of the Classic Airframes kits anyway. The color sheets are much better than usual though. I'm glad to see come pics of you Cr42. Watch out for the wing struts. They are very brittle and each on fits in a specific spot.

Nice work on the engine, Guy.  Sorry for not starting my M.202 yet, been trying to get a couple of left-overs from 2008 off the bench.  I did go ahead and paint the prop, but its not really picture-worthy.  I hope to get started in the next couple of weeks.

Im with you old man, I am taking a break from the bench so far today. Played golf this am and now watching the playoffs. My Steelers are on in a bit so if it goes bad I might be back on the bench tonight.

That is a brilliant pic, really cool. I need to spray paint something, just have an itch to get some painting done.

Gosh Frank I sure hope he uses clippers. Wouldn't really trust him with a razor down there. Look what he did to his lip? Shock [:O]Blush [:I]Dead [xx(]

It has been really quiet today but I think everyone is building on stuff which is excellent. I spent all morning on the 1/48 PBY-5A . Joined up the fuselage and that is one long seam top and bottom down the middle to doctor up!  Time consuming!  I'm with you Frank I have been going pretty steady building too and am having trouble keeping up with these two. Maybe once I get all shaved up I can go faster. less hair more aerodynamic! Thumbs Up [tup]

Great job on finding the pic Guy! That is a cool shot! Wonder why we haven't seen more of it?

Well a quick bite and back to work!  Frank? Can I borrow your anti chaffing cream?

Have you checked your emails today?  Sent you something LOL. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Nice work!  I'm still building a 109, haven't even started the Albatros, and you're already half way through your RA build!  How the heck do those elves do it?  Perhaps I'll just box up my GB kits and send them over to them. Big Smile [:D]

THAT"S THE PICTURE!!!  You win a great prize!  You get to shave Mac's bikini line LOL.  Thanks for finishing your homework, suppose you have more for us now. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Steve- You must have Guy's elves working for you too!  Not one but THREE 109's, and now you're painting your Macchi? Shock [:O]  You are a modeling machine my friend. Bow [bow]

Well. where is everyone? I was on 1st thing and now its evening, and still noone here. Im  lonely boys, where are you. I suppose you all have lives and arnt sat couped up with invalids LOL. Anyhoo, im still here, and modelling.  Much as i was tempted. I decided not to go with allibaster as a colour for the engine. So i went with Citadels Bolt gun metal colour with a black wash and a silver drybrush. I then painted the centre housing and pushrods grey.

I also found there were no fit probs getting it in the cowl at all. I put it down to the fact im a genius btw.

Anyhoo, thats about it for the mo, i only came down here to try to work out the interior colour of this thing. So far the Classic Airframes kit has been great. The only downside is the instructions. Its like theres a couple of pages missing. The Steps on the sheet start at 6, mmmm, theres also no mention of the tal stabs and the tail wheel. Ho hum, onwards and upwards.

Frank, look what i found in one of my reference books,

Also while on Photobucket, i found this and for some reason thought of Seargent MacNeal

Thanks for all the refrence pics guy's. Here is where I am comming from. The Haseg kit is not for smoke rings but has two other schemes that have the wrap around the leading edge. I like that and am going to do that scheme. Where I have some doubt is that the underside colour is only on the wings and elevators. The upper colour wrappes all the way around the fuselage and the nose area. I intend to do the same but wanted to be certain that it would be right for the smoke ring camo. From all that I have seen it appears to be so.

I was lucky at the LHS and got the RLM 78 so I painted all the detail items last night and finished all the sanding of the seams. Might try to get the underside sprayed tonight.

Aaron, good work on finding out the colour info. Have a banana! Im going with the wrap around on my 205. Mainly cos it looks cool. I may go for the grey scheme, if you know which one im on about, I quite like that one. My CR.42 is going to be the recipiant of my decal smoke rings. Should be interesting for sure. I may even smoke ring my 1/48 MC. 205

SWMBO'ed is still ordering me around, and, FYI Mac Neal, my coffee making prowess is second to none, (Considering i dont drink the stuff).

Hopefully, after ive taken the dogs out, ill be able to get back to the CR. Woo hoo.

Well I would like to say I'm making progress but it sure does not look like I spend 4 hour at the bench. All I have to show is and assembled engine and a ton of plastic dust. The assembled engine is about 2mm wider than the assembled cowl panels. I sanded the cowl panels within an inch of thier lives and I did not want to sand through them so I had to sand down the rocker cover on my already painted engine assembly and knocked of most of my scratch made tiny pushrods in the process. One step foward two steps back! I did manage to drill and pin the stabs to make a more secure attachment as the are a butt [hee hee he said butt] joint and I do not trust them to stay put. I think once I have reinstall all 32 of those tiny pushrod and then fit the cowl over it things should go much faster as everything else looks like a good fit. The resin cockpit is painted and the fit is excellent. This is often a problem on short run kits but this one fit nice. I was really hoping to be furthur along after this much time at the bench but that is how these short run kits are. In the end I thnk it is work it. Who else is going to have a build 1/48 Re 2000?

Guy get ready to do some sanding too as that engine will not fit in the cowl of the Cr 42 either. At least on that one thining of the cowl took care of it. I did not have to sand the rockers down on it like this kit.

Sorry hit the button too soon.  I have also read in these books that this was the case. Wrap around on some but not all. Irregardless of the camo scheme used. I believe  the choice is yours Steve unless you have a good pic of a specific bird you are replicating.

Your thoughts? Anyone? Anyone......

Well congrats on the holiday sir, Well deserved after the Christmas shopping frenzy and daily personal attacks you had to endure from those older women who took such joy in accosting you! I surely hope that the little Missus recovery is so miraculas that you may be able to sqeeze in a few builds!  Besides with you making the coffee I know I would not be able to tolerate that for too long!  An Englishman making coffee? Next we will have cats and dogs living together it will be total hysteria!

Right so shall we make a conclusion based apon the evidence presented!  Looking at the MC 202 Hasegawa schemes that I believe is the wonderful in progress build we have seen from Steve.

All schemes on the 202 and 205 provided by Hasegawa have a wrap around color similar to the some of the German Aircraft in the BOB time frame.  One might think that all such aircraft were as depicted but such is not the case. The R A had no less than 21 authorized camo schemes. This made for the wonderful variety we have seen on these pages. Not all had or were required to have this wrap around color. It depended on the production batch, the preferance of the crew members and the painters themselves who really had a free hand in some creativity with the crayon colors provided. In the pictures below you notice that the 202 has no wrap around camo while the 205 does. In many books with profiles the graphics tools limit 100 percent accuracy as they use the same profile simply colored differently. In this book it is very specific for a particular bird and accurate.  Safe to say if it is not depicted it wasn't there.

Steve

Hey Steve I got no joy on the lower side view! I dug out the 202 Pacific coast Models1/32 and the Hasegawa C 202 Folgore "Baracca" which I think is what you may have?  The PC models shows no underside view at all anywhere. The box art and profiles do not show any wrap around on the wings at all. Just the light gray bottom. May or may not be correct as these are limited run kits.

My suggestion in going back through this thread would be to ask GUY!  yep I said it. He has the Hasegawa MC 205 with the smoke ring camo and german markings.  The Camo should be identical. His instructions page on that scheme should be exactly what you need! If we can get him to scan or take a pic of it to post.

Maybe if we talk real nice nice! Guy is the greatest! He is real ace! I wish he was my daddy!

If that doesnt work stab him in the lower lip so he has a matching set! Mischief [:-,]
