Here is my first submission for the group build.

Trumpeter 1/72 Su-15 TM Flagon-F

Nice little kit . I used Alclad 2 paints and Tamiya x-1 for primer, just a quick little build

The next build will be harder, Amodel tu-128

Thanks for looking

TB 379 I used the same interion green as in my P-51B, and looking at prime portal for ref pics it looks close enough to me.  Hope that helps.

Here are some WIP shots of my F-86, this is the result of one night at the bench.  Not to terribly complicated of a kit so far. I added seatbelts from masking tape and used future to simulate the glass on the Instrument Panel.  I am waiting on my Bare metal Foil to arrive before I can finish this one.  In the mean time I'll go back over all the seams and ensure that I have a very smooth finish.

Here is also a shot of the box for the second build:

Vetteman - I think that I told you this was a Mig 19, turns out that it is a Mig 17. Oops!

Hi all,

My Squadron order came in today but the Express Masks for the F-84 canopy are on back-order! Wahhh! Never mind, they'll arrive eventually.

In the meantime, and in the absence of any hard research info on the 84 as yet, does anyone have a clue what the interior green shade would have been? The same as the one used in WWII, and still used on Mustangs and Corsairs in Korea? Tamiya's mixing instructions for it are very different from those for FS 34141...

cheers,

Mike/TB379

Soulcrusher I dont know what to say buddy, that has to be hard on ya. Sounds like you like what you do for a living and you are so lucky you can still work. I know I loved what I did for a living and still I miss going to work, I was a machinist, aerospace and defence work mostly. I had to stop working 5 years ago due to 2 heart attacks, at the young age of 48, of course I didnt listen to the Docs till after the second one and 7 angieoplasties later. Its been a bit over a year now that I came back to modeling and I have to say it does keep my mind and hands busy a very good thing too.

Dioramator You must have had a rough time too and I am very happy you recovered from your back problem.

Now I must bore you all with some WIP pictures Big Smile [:D] I have to give credit to this forum and all who post, share ideas, and take the time to comment, and help another modeler out. This is the best cockpit I have done to date. I did use some True Detail PE.

Heres the IP sorry about the fuzzy picture but is the best I could do with my camera. I did use PE for the insterment panel and think for me it came out very well.

A couple of the office, I used PE for the throttle quadrant and the electrical boxes, however I hated it for the seatbelts so used masking tape. I have been inspiared by chukw's build and tried painting the wire detail and using a light gull grey dry brush to give it a dusty look.

I didnt like the way the kit yoke looked at all so I drilled out the left side of it and cleaned it up with a knife and pin file.

And a couple with the cockpit installed, I need to add the gunsight crystal and do a little touch up on the paint.

As always comments are welcomed encouraged

I'm hoping to come out of this in the end feeling much better but unfortunatly some of the damage done by the Lyme Diseaase can be permanent. Especially the nerve damage but my doctor always keeps my spirits up and never stops trying to improve my life. As long as I can keep modeling I'll be alright.

Sorry to hear about your situation soulcrusher.

I had a back injury about 6 years ago, that left me (almost) unable to walk for 3 years, so I sat and built models (for 3 years straight... no work). I believe that it is the only thing that kept my sanity intact. I have since had an operation, and now my back is pretty good. on the bright side my modeling skills have improved expedentially, and I still try to get in a few hours of building every evening.

I think if I was'nt so pig headed and stubborn the Lyme disease would have killed me by now. I just refuse to give in and do the best I can although I tend to find more restfull hobbies these days. I am lucky that I have a doctor right here in my home town that specialises in treating it. Lots of dietary suppliments eating the right foods and sometimes an IV to pump the nutrient right into my blood because my stomach works so poorly. I'm still at work everyday, replacing clutches and building engines doing brakes jobs and whatever else comes along. Modeling has become my favorite hobby now and it really relaxes me.

I know how you feel Rob. I have a bad case of Lyme disease that has destroyed my stomach which in turn weakened my imune system. Now it is attaking my nervous system and is making my hands a bit shaky. Huge amounts of time and money spent at the doctors and on medication. Making a little headway but still miserable alot of the time. The shop I worked at went out of buisness last week. I'm lucky at least in that respect because another shop owner had been after me to work for him for about a year now so a week off and I'm back to work agian tomorrow. Still I am not modeling as much as I use to because of feeling crappy so much of the time.

Lyme Disease isn't fun.....We had a weather guy on channel 7 here in Detroit that was diagnosed with that and he never returned to work.  I hope everything works out for you.

Aaronw Not to worry the build is a year long. I guess this screwball California weather has you guys hopping, have had some interesting thunder storms here too.

Lancair Ohhhhh I hope you get time to work also I cant wait to see more pictures from your build.

Soulcrusher That is one nice looking plane ! Cant blame you one bit for changing your build, I have added that one to my wish list. I am planning on getting some Talon paint to to try out and maybe 1 or 2 jars of powder from that Hawkeye guy. I am still waiting to see his finished build too Big Smile [:D]

Thanks for the feedback on the kit Rob. I definetly have to add one of these to the stash and build one. It is such a cool looking plane and it there is so much history that goes with it.

Randy here is a pic of the exact plane I am building. I ordered up my NMF paints today from some fellow calling himself Hawkeye HobbiesBig Smile [:D]. I really wanted to try out the Talon acrylics and this is the perfect time.

Looks good so far Rob. I have been thinking about adding one of those to my stash to bone up on my NMF skills and the F-86 is a perfect choice for this GB. A fighter that saw lots of action and all of them were NMF. How do you like the kit so far? Anything to look out for and do you recomend it?

Thanks Soulcrusher.....So far, so good, I guess.  The gear went together without a problem, except for the parts I lost.  Thanks to Revell and their great service, They sent me new parts without question at no cost.  I'm not assembling per the instructions due to a few things I've read about poor engine fit to lower wing, so I'm going to attach the engines to the lower wing first, the attach the upper and lower sections together.  The fuselage is glued together and I added a bunch of weight in the nose and some tubing so I can remove the nose pitot tube if needed.

I did replace the existing exhaust cans with Aires and the Elevons with Fisher Model and Pattern.

Hopefully I can get more time on this baby.

Cheers

Smokinguns3 Thanks for the pictures, you have a very good start of a great subject for the group. I have always liked the looks of the F-86 it just looks fast and threating.

Sherman1111 your builds are on the leading page and thanks for joining us.

Sherman first you need to host your photos or badge in this case on an free online host site like photobucket. Once you set yourself up with an account you can upload photos to the site. When the photo is on the site there will be 4 links under it. Click on the photo you want and it will jump to the top of the page. Then click on the last of the 4 links under the picture and paste in into your signature box in you FSM page. You want to use small size photos of the badge when you paste them in the signature box so you can fit more than one and they do not take up alot of space. That is how I have so many in mine.

Sherman 1111 First and foremost Sign - Welcome [#welcome] to the group I will get your builds posted to the lead page today.

There are some here much better than I am at this computer stuff so hopefully one will chime in on this subject, but heres what I did with the badge. First copy the badge of your choice from the leading page to your computer, I use windows xp so right click on the badge you want and save it. Next most here use www.photobucket.com its a free photosharing site and setup an account, after you get your account you can upload your badge to your picture site. Keep that page open and open your FSM forum page( you will have 2 internet explorer pages open at this point) and click your profile botton there should be a signiture option there in your profile thats where you will be adding your badge. Now open your photobucket window and click on the badge you uploaded and a box below the badge will open, go I believe its the bottom option it starts with IMG in brackets, you move the curser to that box it will highlight, and right click and choose copy. Then open your FSM page right click and choose paste, and paste that to your signiture, now windows will ask to allow copy from clipboard choose yes that window may popup again it does on mine and choose yes again and it will paste. Thats how I did it if someone has a better way please chime in. Oh you will post pictures to the forum in the same way however you will copy the picture to your post.

Hope that helps I am far from being an expert on computer stuff

I hope this is not a silly question, but how do you get the kitchen foil to stick to the kit (plastic)?

Not a silly question at all.  I use gold leafing glue purchased from Michaels Craft Store.  Sprays on fairly easy, let the foil sit for about 10 minutes, then apply.

Cheers

Dioramator My Daddy always told me "The only silly question you can ask is the one that you don't ask" I have always found that statement to be true, sometimes painfully so. I use Microscale's Micro Metal Foil Adhesive. It has been turning up in the hobby shops around here of late. I dont wish to spray glue inside my apartment so the microscale works perfectly for me. Just brush it on and clean up with water when wet and alcohol when dry, 91% works best. Have only used 1/3 of the 1oz bottle for 2 builds so it does go a long way, at $3.50 a bottle thats not too bad in my book.

I went to the art supplies today and picked up a 8 fl.oz. can of "old world art" gold leaf adhesive size (brush on). (made in Sant Fe Springs CA.) for $20.00 AU. I had a bit of a play with it today using aluminium foil. It looks like it should do the trick for the Mustang.

Soulcrusher No problem your build has been changed. Now I have to go and find some pictures of it. I have limited knowlage, I have to admit of US aircraft, and am even more limited on non US aircraft.

Randy could you change my entry for this GB. I have found a much more appropriate subject in the stash by accident. I was looking at the Academy 1/48 Hispano Ha 1112 "Buchon". The planes upper finish is all  bare alluminum. Only the underside is blue. It seems like a much better choice for the theme of this GB. Now I just have to find someone who stocks the rattlecans of Testors alluminum. I do not want to put this stuff through my airbrushes as I only spray acrylics mainly because of easier clean up and the lack of the nasty fumes. Foil would probally look out of place as this was a front line fighter not a show piece. So if you would please change the front page. I'll probally start building it this weekend. It looks as if I'm probally going to have to place an order with Squadron to get the paint. Thanks.
