Jason, I've never built the Hase 1/48 Raiden, only the old 1/72 kit, however having had a look in the box last night, I know I'm in for a treat.

Sim, both 1/48, so should fit into my burgeoning collection of 1/48 Japanese warbirds.

darren, i was wondering if i could jump start my build here with a 1/48 p-51 from revell. its a bit off but i need something to pop out. ive found some pretty neat 51's that i could do.since its not that great im gonna use floquill "old silver "for the NMF. dont worry im still in a holding pattern with the Gekko.

As you can see I haven't painted the pit yet, as there is precious little in there I'll apply a base coat of black, with a downward sprayed coat of Nakajima interior green to give a hint of cockpit colour.

I think he means smearing some paint in there and then giving it a shot from the AB. Or the black and green shots from AB?Confused [%-)]

SAR, looking forward to a Mustang build!! What scale is it? I remember having the old monogram 1/32 with all the moving bits, bombs dropped etc. Needless to say that got a lot of flight time!! Vroooooooooooooooommmmmmm!!!!Propeller [8-]

this one, my dear commander, is the rather old(read ancient) 1/48; with all the flaws and raised panel lines one could want!! and thanks , i had a good chuckle about the amount of flight time you had in your 32nd scale p-51Laugh [(-D]

God I used to love those old Monogram kits with all the moving do dads. I remember having a SBD-4 Dauntless with retracting landing gear, connected dive brakes, spinning prop and best of all a small trigger under the fuselage that releases the center bomb, sigh...

Hello all,

Was wondering if I could jump into this group build? I am currently looking at my stash and have but 2 choices: Hasegawa A6M5b type 52 Otsu or a Fine Molds "Shisei Kikka" (Orange Blossum).

What would you Gents like to see The Late Zero or Lil Jet?? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Konnichawa,

Jason

Karl I was kind of wondering that myself, how are you going to paint it?

The pit is just a tub with a seat molded into it, no stick, no pedals, no point due to the thickness of the canopy.

I've already sprayed it black, so all the recesses are black. All I'll do now is apply the Nakajima interior green sprayed straight down, so that the recesses remain in shadow, then just dry brush the edges with a lighter colour.

The only other additions to the pit will be tape belts and a head rest cushion on the pylon behind the pilot.

I sprayed the airframe Tamiya Nato black last night to get an idea of any imperfections as this is going to be an NMF finish, which I rarely do.

Having done that, I remembered I'd knocked off both of the inner flap actuators, and needed to replace them.

I tried a couple of things, but settled on filing a slot in the wing, then inserting some strips of plasticard to represent the actuators. This resulted in a strong attachment, allowing me to sand them to shape.

Once I'd one this I applied a coat of Tamiya gloss black which has shown I still need to tidy up the actuators a little, however the rest of the seams look good.

Karl, great progress!!! You must be preparing for an Alclad finish I presume? Looking forward to it!Thumbs Up [tup]

Jason, glad to see you here!!! The Nikka certainly would be something different, but have to wait for the CO's word on that one. The Zero, well, you can't go wrong there. Always love to see a good looking 0!!!

Jason, meant to say, go with the Kikka.

Think it would be a good example of too little too late.

Sim, I'm using Gunze's metalics for this one.

I've never used Alclad, though did toy with the ide, but the cost put me off as I already have a selection of Gunze metalics.

I've used Tamiya acrylic metalics before now, but they are a bit on the coarse side for 1/48, let alone 1/72.

Jason, straight NMF is the game plan.

We'll see how the NMF turns out though!Wink [;)]

Karl, the Ki build is shaping up nicely. I noticed u used an acrylic black as a base, is this for preshading? One other question, how well does the black bond? Looking forward to updates.

Jason, the detail painting of the pit is amazing. I really like what you've done with the kit pit. Really nice work. It may just be the photo, but from what I see, You may want to consider adding a few more shadow washes to the engine to help bring out more of the recessed detail.

I've picked up the Hasegawa SBD-4 off of Ebay for a cool price. All this talk about the old Monogram kit brings back some memories. Man, the flight time logged on that kit was astronomical. I built that one way back. anyhow's I'm waiting for the Dauntless, and enjoying all the fantastics builds, everyone.

Jason, the pit looks spot on.

Mo, the black is as a base coat for the metalic top coat, it just makes it look better.

I've never had adhesion problems with either Tamiya or Gunze acrylics, and generally use Tamiya's Sky Grey as my standard primer.

Applied another coat of gloss black to the entire airframe this afternoon, which I'll now need to leave to harden for a couple of days.

Jason, the office looks great!!! I agree with Mo on the mill, just add a thin wash of flat black and it will look great. Just needs something to make the molded in detail pop out!

Karl, would love to see a pic of the Tojo in gloss black anyway! In my book on Japanese aircraft of the pacific war, there is a profile showing a Tojo that was painted in overall flat black that was used in the defense of Japan itself. Would be an interesting scheme!

Both the Pete and the Dauntless are hitting the critical "Ready to paint stage"  This is the point where I start looking through the stash for the next project.  Even without a trip to my storage unit I have a couple more kits that follow this GB.  I'm thinking of busting out Either my 1/48 Hasegawa Tony or Hasegawa Jill and for the US side I'm thinking Avenger. I like the idea of the Tony in the aluminum finish with the green camo, but the Jill looks like a great kit..... I have several AM 1/48 Avengers and have the decals for the attack on the Yamato but I really think I'm going to bust out the big 1/32 Trumpeter Avenger.  I've never built it and it has sat mocking me for years.  Considering I recently did an AM Avenger in Flight 19 markings, the Trumpeter might be a nice change of pace.

Nice, choices, Stu. My unsolicited vote goes for the Jill...it's one you rarely see built. The Avangers are always worth building...both great kits.

Is there any way someone with phot-editing skills can take some of our builds and re-arrange them in a single photo? It would look nice to see the entire fleet when we're done here.

Stu, I myself wouldlove to see the Jill for it's rarity, however, the sheer size of the Trump 1/32 Avenger would be awesome to see come together!!!

Mucker, don't know about arranging all in one photo but I have seen where there is a slideshow of all finished builds. Don't know how to do that myself but it can be done that way I know. Not all forumers puters/servers/etc. can handle such things though. A gallery page for the GB would be an idea!
