ARMOR - Sherman Family Group Build

ok gang quick question... On the Tamiya Sherman I am building there is a small gap just above the front drive sprocket. this should be filled in correct? Sorry about the silly question,, but after almost taking the casting marks off,, I am not taking any more chances, and since I normally build German Armor this is, I geuss, in a sense foriegn land for me. So again my apologies for the many silly questions.

wipw I feel your pain, except I had to do Science Fair. I havn't been able to start. I finished my two big projects, only to get three more and a book report. . I will start this weekend, projects or not!!

just curious, but I'm assuming that that the markings on the gun mantlet are supposed to represent hole for the gun sight to see through?? if so I will drill them out.

I spent most of the day working on the little thing like lettering ammo cans and putting straps on ration boxes. I think I'm real close to being finished, but then again I've been saying that for days, yet ever night I sit here for hours working on it.
I still have one more track to build.
Tomarrow night I should get some more pictures to post.

The pics you see above was with tremendous help form Robert,once again thanks. Nowfor the Sherman,this is the same tank that I was going to make a sandbagger out of,but it did not work.So I read where Gen.Patton had his men on the field add scrap armour from other dead tanks.So why not me since plan A fell thourght,I will do it to.It did protect better then the sandbags,besides Patton would not let his men sandbag a tank.

Question for Robert.

I'm getting my stuff together for my build-up, and want to make sure all my stuff is right. I've got tons of aftermarket stuff to make a Sherman for Tunisia. Now I'm wondering if its right.

Ok, here's what I've got:

1) Tank Workshop M4 hull with direct vision (this thing is a welded hull, not cast)
2) mantlet and gunbarrel which will make either a M34 or M34a1 gunshield
3) M3 suspension (top wheel in middle)
4) Rubber block treads (well, I don't have them yet but they are on order)
5) Three-part hull nose (which, to be honest, doesn't look all that different from the piece that came in the kit)

Whaddaya think?

How about the Formation M4a1 conversion? It doesn't have the M3 suspension, but it does have the cast hull, and also has direct vision and what appears to be an M34 shield. I've been told that most Shermans in Tunisia were M4a1 -- could I use the stuff I have above or is it better to just use the Formation conversion? And if so, can I use the M3 suspension with the Formation conversion?

if u were silent, how would i learn anything ?

i made the a-frame longer because i'm planning 2
cut it down at the top 2 make room 4 the flat a-frame
& pulley which fit inside the tubular a-frame. i figured
i'd b better off too long than trying 2 nail the exact rite
length & spacing at the apex...
the zoom effect on the digicam makes it look worse
than it really is ( i hope)...

did some work on little interior bits:
4 lengths of brass strip 4 drivers control levers
2 tiny styrene sheet control panels
2 lengths of styrene tube 2 raise driver's seats

hoping 2 get in some major workbench time this weekend...

Here is a shot showing the added cheek armor. The step in around the bottom of the turret was also filled all the way around leaving only the step below the cheek armor. Sorry for poor image quality.

Digger - very nice looking build. I like the added armor it's different.
Dan - Your is looking great too, I love all the detail you put into it. Is that a rope on the right rear fender, if it is what did you use to make it?
Claymore - look and sounds like you put a lot of time into you turret and well spent I might add.

Derek your turret looks real good.
