A piece of filler came off the cowl during the race and did that to the wing. They weren't quite sure what happened (it was loud!), but the temps were okay so she kept chugging along. I'm going to have to miss this year's race because I took my vacation at the Monterey Historic Auto Races.

Now to decide what I'm going to build?!

Jonny Roscoe You had to go and remind me of the fact that it was one of the few times I didnt have a camera in my saddle bags. I am still kicking myself over that. Strega was all opened up at time and the cowling was off. I didnt want to ask if I could take a look in the cockpit, didnt have shoes that lended them selves to walking on the wing. It did look like the main color in the cockpit was white from what I could see of it. This all happened back in 89 I think.

You got any pics from Monterey?  Kinda OT I know, but still pics of things old and fast.

Oh, I don't know about that.  I keep fingering the Fujimi 1/72 kit when I go to the LHS.  Just can't bring myself to pay the money they want for the kit though.  Maybe it'll be on one of the vendor tables next week at SuperCon.  Still don't know what to build, the choices are tough, RB-51 1978, RB-51 1979 (final flight), Lone Star Fury, Super Corsair, Lefty Gardner's P-38 (always wanted to do that one when I was a kid), Tigercat, Bearcat.  I'll think of somethin.

 Yeah it looks pretty nice. It's a fairly simple conversion, by parts-count, anyway. I'm looking forward to starting it. I have to finish a few cars first, but this will be my next project.

Kg4kpg yes I am planning on moving this thread to group builds. I want to leave it here in aircraft until mid week next week so more would see it. I will be asking Kelly then.

Jonny Roscoe I have been thinking you do have your work cut out for you because Strega is so highly modified. It looks like you have put some serious thought into this build. Cant wait to see your project start and progress. I would like to model Strega in 1/48 but think its a bit over my head at this point in time.

 I have one more GB Badge in progress for the Extreme guys I hope to have it up in the next day or 2.

I'd like to join in on this with a modified Sea Fury!

It will something along the lines of what the "Critical Mass" racer is, or was since it's now being restored to 'stock' condition.

 I'm undecided as to what exactly I'll built still, but I can't wait. Whatever it is, most likely 1/48, posable jet, maybe bashed propjob, maybe both. Whatever it will be, it will be my own original "HOLY MOSES".

 Need some tech help.

 For me it's between the badge Fermis has up and the one Jonny Roscoe has up. Although, my vote leans towards Roscoe's pick. The action of a pair of unlimiteds in a pylon turn. I'll wait till whatever becomes official to add to my sig.

 You guys have already given me lots of great ideas as to the mods I want to do with my twin Mustang. Since it's a former fighter there won't be as much interior work to do as the Lib I'm currently on my bench, so I'll be able to focus more on airframe and exterior changes. 

 I was thinking of different paint schemes and one idea that came up was a Petty blue, STP sponsored F-82. Then I thought, what if Dale Earnhardt raced an unlimited? Or I could borrow ideas from NHRA top fuel or custom street rods. 

 That's what I'm going to really enjoy about this GB. It will really get the creative/imaginative juices flowing. There's going to be some hot stuff(polite) come from this build.

 Man, I can't wait to see that 82 come together.

 And, I confess, just a bit. I couldn't wait. I started 2 Hasi 1/72 kits(alphajet and a kawasaki T-4) Not officially for the GB, but a bit of practice for paint scemes and mounting them airborn, as practice for my T-6 formation that'll go in the NMF GB. Also they're nice and small, easy "decompression builds", and I got em for $3 each.
